i think i am guilty, too.
But to be true i can't stand dragonball-like drawrings anymore, even if i still love DBZ and the time i had with it back then.
I propably just grew out of this style.

Thanks god, it's not a shitty 3D port like Final Fantasies...
It will likely get a purchace. I have so much un touched games that I intend to play its a bit nuts. I have about 1000 hours worth of Turn based Koei awesomeness to get started on. I only just completed FF tactics advance and i had that since release in the EU. I just started my american version of FFT A2

So im not the only person who hates DBZ drawings, WOW i thought i was the only one. I never liked the story its likely why im so adverse to it. I just feel that everyone looks the same I know the guys famous for his sketches/DBZ/Dragon quest but i dont like it

Only the character portraits were tainted. Everything else is fine.

Shit me, Chrone Trigger on the DS... I played the Snes version about 3 years ago, but didn't finish it because my computer got riddled with cyber AIDS. I'm glad I resisted the urge to start again now! Hopefully it'll get a full on re-translation

meeeh I thought it was OK. TBH the touch screen has a few problems it wont let me access people if someone is standing in front of them on the grid. Theres a few other problems too. But its got a sequel in JP so maybe that fixes a lot of bits I thuoght failed it in the first one.

the few styleos-control problems are just minor, and still forgivable, same as the -a bit unconvinient (item-)menu.
The story is okay, the gameplay is good to handle and well balanced, the characters are nicely done, same as all the other artworks, i also like the atmosphere (countryside/age) the game is located at.
Atlus also fixed the mentionable problems in the sequel of EO, eh? So lets look forward to LA2.

I am definetly excited, if/when the sequel will be translated. (and i really hope so)

btw i still didnt touch EO2, only played it once, and still lying around since several weeks, i aim it when finished with Luminous arc, promised :?

Yeah, DS version of CT is confirmed to be getting a new translation. I've seen screenshots.

I could have sworn I read that they'd added on a sixth character blank for names (so you could actually name Crono "Chrono", if you wanted) but since I can't find my source anywhere...maybe that's a confabulation.

edit: oh yeah, and elf—LA2 hits the US in November. No Euro release date yet...

Two SRPGs which are accessible and fun, nice for beginners to the genre:

Fire Emblem: Dragon Shadow (a bit thin on the strategy side, but a nice entry to the series)
Drone Tactics (simple gameplay with reasonably deep strategy)

There are a few others I plan to play when I'm done with Drone Tactics, including Rondo of Swords, Luminous Arc 1 & 2, Front Mission, that strategy Mana game, FFT, Disgaea... Already a strong library of SRPGs.

A friend of mine picked it up a couple of days ago, and says it's pretty good. I might look into it, but I still have yet to get DQIV and DQV. I also still need Knights in the Nightmare...

Most of my DS Games are RPGs, some of which I haven't touched for years, or ones I just couldn't get into. I mean, I love sRPGs, but I just can't get into FFTA2. Disgaea DS is pretty nice, despite weaker graphics and lower-quality sound compared to the PS2 and PSP releases.

Considering that it's the only legal way to own it in the US, Final Fantasy III is decent. I haven't touched FFIV DS yet despite it being my favorite game in the past, but I guess I should sometime.

Right now, for me, it's all about Etrian Odyssey/II. I'm playing II right now and liking it more than the first, which I shamefully gave up on for a while when I got stuck on a boss. Perhaps I'll go back and try again later.

I've only played a little of it, but it seems good thus far - the pace is relatively quick, and most everything so far that I've needed to know is explained in-game. The style is a bit like the "old" SMT games crossed with a grid-based, turn-based SRPG, since when you enter battle it's a "first-person" view of static monster images, with limited spell effects and whatnot, though you're still exploiting weaknesses and getting extra turns. What caught me most off guard, though, is how little (if anything) was done to soften the thematic material, as from the very beginning you've got a less-than-admirable portrayal of God breathing down your neck - especially notable since the thing got away with a "T" rating.

Yeah, I bumped this in part hoping to hear some impressions on this one. There are some really favorable reviews out there, and the combat sounds more interesting than your standard RPG.

This is where I'm at. Mostly interested in the new SMT because it is an SMT game, not because it is an SRPG.

In my own case, I usually can't get into a RPG unless it has reasonably deep strategy. My ideal: absolutely minimum story, no fetch quests, no parts where I'm wondering what I'm supposed to do next. Just get me to the strategic battles, and the closer the battles are to chess the better, i.e. every move in the battle matters.

I'm afraid to say that I got to about chapter five in the DQIV DS remake and just gave up, burned out. It was strange because I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, but it does get very samey, and the characters never develop at all.

Currently playing The World Ends With You. It's fun, but I'm not sure if I'll be seeing the end credits. I'll try my hardest to maintain interest though.

I'm saving Disgaea for a situation where I have to commute to work: it's too deep for me to get into at the moment :O

Still need to finish Chrono Trigger  Almost there though.

I just started playing Soma Bringer on the DS. Holy crap, this game is awesome. I think the only reason why this game has not been released in North America must be the work of evil sorcerers. The hand of Satan must be on the Nintendo company to not allow them to release this game domestically. We need to gather as many wizards and priests as possible to release Nintendo from the spell of their bad decision making.

This and 7th dragon. Actually, there's a lot of DS rpgs (namely the more archaic stuff like Wizardry) that never made it over. I don't get it, it can't be that hard.

Yeah, and Soma Bringer doesn't even have any voice acting. So it's not like they have to hire any no-talent hacks to butcher the dialogue or anything.

They'd probably still have to force in some unnecessary vocals, though, or else risk criticism of being "archaic" from the gaming press. Something tells me, though, that the amount of text translation needed and the semi-downturn in JRPG popularity (especially non-established names) around here are bigger obstacles in this department.
