I don't mind the delays, games should only be released when they're ready. Nowadays too many companies are more worried about meeting deadlines than delivering a quality product (I'm looking at you Codemasters and your broken, buggy-as-hell F1 2010 game).

I'm expecting a ton of people to put The Stig's Liana lap time to shame.

All I gotta say about that is that I enjoy forest and other rally-type driving - not enough good rally racers around I think. Of course, I'm no big fan of F1 or circuit racing. Of course GT has done very well there, even if the Turismo tracks are more nicely finished than some of the stuff in a Colin McRae game from Codemasters.

Well that's a given. I'll be very happy if they have the Liana, LaCetti, Cee'd.

The delay should also make Sony take a decision about lowering the CE price. 180€ it is insane just for what's included.
Also I'd like the sense of speed to be improved a bit, just like someone above said. Driving at 150Km/h in the games feels like 80 or 90.

The thing is that 80/90 KM feel is correct. If you've ever watched an in dash video of someone doing 150 km it doesn't look all that fast. You need other stimuli to really get the feel.

Nah, the game is already in retailer's hands. Well, at least over here it is.

Browsing through the car list right now and I'm pretty disappointed (as I expected to be), but there is still a shit load of cars that ensure plenty of fun.

No new Ford AU or Holden Sedans
No new RUF RGT-8
Missing Le Mans prototypes and GT2 cars

That was just a joke of course... then again look at Little Big Planet.

So torn on picking this up. On the one hand i've spent a lot of money on games this month. On the other it's Mr. Stiggles approved.

What are the premium cars anyway? Do you have to pay to access them or something?

This may sound stupid but I really don't know what it means :?

Premium cars will feature fully detailed cockpits, but no one knows for sure what the difference will be. Whether standard will recieve cockpits as well as the premium cars or not.

At the 2010 24 Hours of LeMans race, the official announcement was that the GT2 racing class would be racing it's final class run for the 2010 season and will not be returning for the 2011 LeMans event and would be absorbed into the GT1 class for the upcoming 2011 24 Hours of LeMans race. Hence no GT2 type of cars to be found in the upcoming GT5 game. Go figure.

I doubt ACO's decision to switch the GT format has anything to do with lack of new GT class cars in the game
It seems more like PD budgeted for NASCAR and the WRC licenses and ignored some of the other smaller racing organizations.

I was really hoping to see some more Australian V8 Supercars in this iteration, but looks like i'll have to stick Forza 3 for that.

You're right, it does seem that developer PD really wanted those coveted Nascar and WRC franchises for their latest GT5 game. I suppose at a later date, DLC for them GT2 class and prototype LeMan cars could be feasible. We'll just have to wait and see what PD offers new cars available for DL.

Is Gamestop still accepting pre-orders at their store locations for the $99.99 USD LE GT5 package deal?

I personally called my local Gamestop store on November 2nd date for the USA GT5 release date and said that SCEA was going to release it sometime in January of 2011. Knowing that PD's record of releasing a bona-fide new GT game...they always tend to keep delaying things at the very last minute.

Pretty sure this game is going to give my launch PS3 the YLOD. :(

After running 2 laps on Laguna Seca in the Tom's Toyota Supra my PS3 overheats, screen goes black, two beeps and a flashing red light on the Playstation. I killed the power and now I'm backing up my hard drive.

The only other game to do this was Uncharted 2, but that was after an hour of play.

Anyways, Quick impressions. Physics feel great, it's almost like I can feel the weight transfer and the traction threshold. Very nice. I can switch my steering wheel over to 270 degree rotation and it feels awesome in the JGTC cars, unlike Forza where the steering assist is always on making the cars behave very twitchy. Pretty disappointed that not every car has an interior view, as it's the best way to play a sim (not the fastest, but the most satisfying). No proper clutch support yet. It's available, but the engine automatically revs on down shifts.

Hope my PS3 can survive GT5!

Edit: Looks like I'm not alone

Don't say such scary things, I played this game hours upon hours the past two days on my launch 60gb - so far it behaves, but I heard the fan go quite wild in some of the races. :?

Anyways, despite it's few shortcomings the game is great and shows why GT is GT - hard to find another game in the genre where you can sink more hours in than a RPG while still having choice and variation. Kart racing is fun for breaks, the "elevator music" during the menu is relaxing and IMO always neat to hear after coming back from a race, Nascar...they really nailed Nascar - feels so different than the rest of the game, it's not just an oval track using the same gameplay as the rest of the game - it feels almost like a completely different game that emphasizes the precision needed in Nascar.

It's a shame the game is plagued by long loading times and minor graphical annoyances. Also, the whole package feels a quite inconsistent; some tracks and cars are gorgeous, while others look bland and dated. Some alpha effects were toned down too low(I assume they hogged too many resources) that show horrible resolution in some instances, while in others they greatly contribute to the look of the game... it's a really mixed bag.

And an honorable mention to the game's intro, it's genius.

Picked this up yesterday, and so far I'm enjoying the racing, but the menus and UI are just horrendous. I've spent as much time trying to figure things out as I have actually racing. I'll need to spend more time with it, but once you can finally manage to figure out how to get into a race it's pretty good. Not that it's going to make me quit playing Forza (the car and track selections differ quite a bit between the two, so there's room for both.)

That, or insanely pretentious. And once again, they replaced Masahiro Andoh's awesome "Moon Over The Castle" with some shit licensed song. Surprisingly, My Chemical Romance fit the visuals better than Van Halen's "Panama", but still... *shrugs*

Did anyone pick up the GT5 Collector's Edition version bundled set?

Several major USA retailers are said to have gotten their allocated stock of the limited GT5 CE bundled sets in stock including Best Buy. But in Japan, SCEJ still hasn't released it's limited edition bundled GT5 Race Set yet to the general public according to NCSX. Hmmm...what's up with that?

For a mere forty bucks more (compared for a Standard Edition barebones release of GT5 with a MSRP of $59.99 USD), it comes with a chock full of cool GT5 related swag/goodies including a Kyosho manufactured die-cast metal 1:43 scale GT5 themed car. I know that Kyosho makes such die-cast metal cars besides their usual R/C kits as I saw some up for sale at various Akihabara based Japanese R/C shops with reasonable/affordable prices. The attention to detailing and accuracy lavished upon the Kyosho die-cast metal cars combined with superb craftmanship is legendary and second to none. Most USA based hobby shops will gladly special order them if you want them. Would've been nice if SCEA went the extra mile & included a Kyosho die-cast metal GT5 themed Acura NSX GT race car...that would've been ace in my book.

On the USA based PSN site, there's still no current GT5 demo to d/l either even though such a GT5 demo is playable at various retailers including my local Gamestops though. Why is that?

There was such a GT5 demo on the USA PSN site a while back but came with a time restriction in place (and once it expired, you couldn't play it anymore -- still couldn't play it even if you reverted the PS3's internal RTC/calendar to an earlier set time to extend the ability to play it for a lengthier amount of time either).

Edited: I finally caved in and bought one of the GT5 CE bundled sets today from my local Best Buy store -- so there's no need to have one reserved but it's on a first come, first served basis though. SCEA had only made a certain numbered sets anyways. It'd be wise to call ahead & make sure that they reserve it under your own name if you want one for yourself.

So what's a good motion feedback steering wheel set to play with this GT5 bad boy? How is the Logitech G25 based wheel setup (and is it worth the asking price that it retails for)?

I got the CE as well. Definitely worth the extra $40. The book that is included is phenomenal. It discusses various automobile tid bits like difference between engine types, suspension, drivetrains, superchargers and feature a quick overview of all the cars and tracks in the game.
Ran a few laps online today too, I didn't get to race since my Internet kept crapoint out on me. But it was great fun to do a little track day with a full lobby.

As for wheels, I've heard only positive things about the g25/27 (aside from the occasional lemon). If you're looking for something a littlle cheaper there is th gt pro, which is a fine entry wheel. There is also the Fanatec Porsche 911 turbo s wheel, If you want something that will work on both the 360 and the ps3. Although, I despise there customer service (my wheel took 8 months to be shipped and I've yet to receive my clubsport paddle shifters from a order placed 2 months ago).

There's a ton more I'd love to discuss, but I have to to work in 5 hours and I need some sleep! :P

Yeah, I've got one of those old-school Logitech GT Force force-feedback steering wheels that hails from the PS2 era...it's still usable with the PS3 games of GT5 Prologue + GT5 & works like a charm. What's really cool about all those different Logitech force-feedback steering wheels is that with the appropiate PC drivers, they'll work just fine on a PC setup in addition to doing double duty for consoles (PS2, PS3, Gamecube, 360).

Sometimes, Best Buy will offer the Logitech GT Pro for a mere $99.99 USD on sale considering the usual going retail price is at $139.99 USD these days.

It'd be cool to discuss some more cool force-feedback steering wheels to use with GT5. Bring them on.
