Except the problems people are moaning about stem from a retail release... All these problems first appeared in DSIIX and have been carried over into Guwange.KisakiProject wrote:For people that are surprised by the difference between the effort put into the retail discs and this its to be expected. The aspect ratio issue has been bitched to death and back again, so I'll try talking about something else.
The 360 Arrange mode is retarded as hell.
You know how bullets slow down when the Shikigami is near them in the regular mode? In 360 Arrange, ALL the bullets are slowed down ALL the time.
Simply kill one enemy and ALL the bullets are cancelled.
Also, Blue and 360 Arrange don't have a 2-player mode, which kinda sucks.
The menus are hilariously convoluted. The controls also don't rotate for arranging screens, which is another interface nightmare.

I don't see how not allowing a 4:3 game to be displayed properly on a 4:3 display is something that should be expected due to some decreased level of effort for a non-disk release.KisakiProject wrote:For people that are surprised by the difference between the effort put into the retail discs and this its to be expected. There's more effort involved in creating high resolution textures and sprites, but seriously.. allowing 4:3.. that's just gaming 101 these days. And also it's not just tate. It's even jacked up yoko on a 4:3 display.

I find it kind of enjoyable for achievement farming. Honestly this mode is there for bringing in more people especially since twin stick shooters are big these days. There is nothing wrong with that since they left arcade mode in tact.Lance Boyle wrote:The aspect ratio issue has been bitched to death and back again, so I'll try talking about something else.

Ok, so I haven't played Guwange before the 360 port. Now that I've played it, I have discovered that Guwange is not fun to play for score, outside of 360 mode.
Why do people like this game so much again?
I guess the style, setting, and music are nice...

I play for personal score. I refuse to milk bosses, just not fun for me.
Re: Guwange 360
There was no redrawing involved with the high-res modes in ESP2 and Mushi Futari. They simply recaptured the original art assets at a higher resolution. Cave don't have the original art assets for Guwange (hell, they don't even have the source code for most of their earlier titles).KisakiProject wrote:After all the didn't bother redrawing the sprites like they did for ESP2 and MHSF.

Re: Guwange 360
all these noobs bitching about us bitching.. seriously on the first 4 levels it don't make much of a difference but it's no fun playing 5th and 6th level on this reduced screensize.Personally i found those levels superfiddly even on a 28inch screen but on a 21 inch screen reduced to 16 inches it is just a joke.
It may not be such a problem for you guys cos you can't get off the 3rd stage but if you are playing for 1cc or score this is a SERIOUS hindrance.
Seriously i find guwange last 2 levels very hard (much harder than anything in first loop of ketsui or d.o.j)
THIS GAME IS ANCIENT X BOCKS CAN DEFINITELY DO AN ARCADE PERFECT PORT OF THIS GAME.

dont play it in 4:3 until they patch it or dont play it then to anyone whos bitching.
Re: Guwange 360
So far the reduced screen hasn't slowed my progress, and I'm a little lost on what the big deal is. I'm far from a Guwange master, but I've made it to stage 6 so far on a credit in Arcade mode and today is the first time I've ever really played the game. I'm on a 20" CRT, and while I admit to a certain adjustment period, within a half hour of playing my eyes had adjusted completely to the ratio. Stage 6 is a bear, but I'm not dying and feeling like it's the screen's fault.
I've nearly dropped several hundred dollars on a Guwange board several times in my life, but never pulled the trigger. Getting this for $10, even in a truncated form, is nothing short of a gift. Arrange Blue is a glorious thing.

it's good value for $10 but to not complain when it could have been better with little extra work is just stupid. we are the consumers of the product and have a right to expect the product to be as good as possible.what if you went to mcdonalds and your big mac had only one burger in it? Re: Guwange 360
I'm absolutely rubbish at Guwange, never got past stage 4, and the first time I played I went into 360 Arrange and got every achievement but two secret ones and the two other characters. However, while easy, it could be interesting to play for score, being as it's a flood the screen with bullets then shoot handy bats kind of deal.
Compared to most Raizing games, Esp.Ra.De, etc. the boss milking is pretty short in Guwange, isn't it? First two bosses (again, I suck at Guwange) are going to change phase after you've done it 2-3 times.
Edge and Eurogamer have give it 8/10.

Yep $10 is still good .... and you really should give them $10, but its a silly flaw

I hear you, but I have to wonder: Are we professional gamers, or are we professional consumers? Yeah, that's what the forum's for, to bitch about such things, but I'm always confused why so many members seem to go on crusades to destroy a title and belittle anyone who's enjoying it. I start to feel like some of these dudes have arcade-collector PTSD. "You weren't THERE man, when the REAL shit came out! I spent two weeks pay for the full kit back at the turn of the millennium! You think this PORT is fun? You don't KNOW fun!"charlie chong wrote:it's good value for $10 but to not complain when it could have been better with little extra work is just stupid. we are the consumers of the product and have a right to expect the product to be as good as possible.what if you went to mcdonalds and your big mac had only one burger in it? My philosophy for this sort of thing has remained the same since about the Atari 5600 port of Robotron. No, it's not the SAME EXACT game, but it is a unique entity and brings with it a set of unique challenges. It's the same reason I'd be more impressed with someone beating the NES version of Battletoads over the Genesis/MD version. Getting a 1CC in cramped-o-vision on this Guwange port is a challenge unto itself, one separate from the PCB, perhaps even inferior, but still worthy of its own accolades.

but on the other hand you have mentioned how you don't play these games on mame.why is that?? because it's not a physical disc??you don't have a physical disc for guwang innit
i'll play on whatever mame, pcb,ex bogs, saturn aint nothing about snobbery. just pointless playing this game on xbox when i can already play full screen on a p.c.
we've been used to full screen tate on ports since the saturn so why step backwards?

Re: Guwange 360
Blue arrange is pretty fun to play for score IMO, I should probably give 360 mode another shot though. On arcade you need to get used to using autofire so that the shikigami comes out faster, makes the chaining much easier.Cuilan wrote:Ok, so I haven't played Guwange before the 360 port. Re: Guwange 360
Holy Christ is "Arrange 360" an easy mode to play. Without even trying I made it to the 4th stage on one credit. Literally the only thing that could hit me were those damn bats and that's only because they kept coming from the bottom of the screen when I wasn't paying attention. Usually because I was so mind-numbingly bored.
Independent control of your character and the Shikigami create a slight imbalance but at least it makes for a comfortable comfortable play experience. The decision to slow down every bullet when you're Shikigami is hitting an enemy however, that was just retarded. Bullets move so frigging slow now that I was doing pirouettes around them during the cat-spiders final barrage. Terrible, terrible arrange mode. Great for getting those gold combo achievements, but not much else.

Guwange can be fun to play for score. It definitely sucks that it has game-long chains, but if you're using your shikigami offensively you rarely have to think about. Only before some bosses did i need to be careful about killing enemies too quickly. Blue Arrange definitely makes it easier to maintain the chain, though to be honest I'm not really sure as to the reasons why.Zaarock wrote:Blue arrange is pretty fun to play for score IMO, I should probably give 360 mode another shot though. Anyways, I just had a great run through. Got about half through level 6 on 1cc. I'm loving this game. The unconventionality of it really does it for me.

This game just froze on me. Was it a freak occurrence? Was it just my Xbox? I don't think so since mine is a pretty new machine and it hasn't given me any other problems. I was playing training mode in level 6, 360 mode. I was right after the where all the cars come and where tons of popcorn enemies surround you right before the boss and it happened. Anyone else have anything similar or just me?

How so? Achievements are for mainstream audiences to see. If anybody wants to see how good I am at arcade mode they can check out my score on the leader boards? For the average person they will be like "oh that's cool you got w/e points in that game" for my few friends that understand maniac shooters they will look at the leader board and be like "you suck." I mean if they had mixed the leader boards then that would be awful. But they didn't.Lance Boyle wrote:I think you just might be part of the problem.KisakiProject wrote:I find it kind of enjoyable for achievement farming.
Right now I'm working on 1cc it in xbox360 mode and getting 30,000 gold. I'm really close. Once I achieve that goal then I'll go back to arcade mode to push myself further. Its kinda like jumping into novice mode then working your way up to normal and eventually black label. For me that's what works best to enjoy these games. If its not for you then just stick to arcade or arrange blue.
