I'm disappointed that people actually enjoy playing this game or want to... Stupid boss coin leeching.
Re: Guwange 360
If we dont complain about it then all the other releases will be like this (DSII has the same issue). Now, I'm hoping I dont have to play DFK in a window.
Re: Guwange 360
Does that mean that the image is squashed flat? This might be obvious, but couldn't you set the xbox to 4:3 and then use the zoom function on the tv. I know that the image quality drops when zoomed, but it's an old arcade game anyhow.bcass wrote: I have a widescreen CRT, with the Xbox set to widescreen and there are borders top/bottom, as per DS2X.
I was gutted when this happened to DS2, so I can understand the frustration with Guwange. It must be something to do with thew xbox knowing what type of tv you're hooked up to and not being able to overide it. A composite lead might help, but then the picture will look even worse...

Re: Guwange 360
Isn't that one of the things the Arrange Blue mode fix? Mind, that mode also seems to make the game easier to chain overall, so it's far from ideal... and fortunately most of us don't have the skills to go for top scores, so we can safely ignore coin leechingsikraiken wrote:I'm disappointed that people actually enjoy playing this game or want to... Re: Guwange 360
Boss coin leeching isn't anywhere near the biggest problem with the scoring system in this game.sikraiken wrote:I'm disappointed that people actually enjoy playing this game or want to... Stupid boss coin leeching.

Assholes always want their games to be the same size as the tv they bought
Next time I buy a TV I'll be sure to get one larger than I actually want
Anyway, how's the arrange soundtrack, I heard that it is pretty bad lol.
The worst thing about Guwange is that no one here can complain about the box art.
I think I'll have time to get it tomorrow. I better not need Japanese points if I'm using my Japanese region console in the US, maybe I should find out, I don't want to give Microsoft my credit card number.

Sorry, I thought I was on 4chan. I get easily confused.
I actually got farther in Blue mode than in Arcade. Is Blue really supposed to be much harder?

Re: Guwange 360
Okay, I was too impatient to fully test this, but I think there's a workaround to get full 4:3. Be warned, it's convoluted:
Sorry I can't refine this, I'm a bit short on time tonight. Let me know if this works!
- Set your 360 to a 4:3 resolution like 640x480 if outputting VGA, or 480p if over HDMI. Also set your aspect ratio to 16:9 (this should cause the menu to appear shrunken horizontally).
- In Guwange's setup, highlight one of the Extra screens (doesn't matter which one) and hit X to activate it. Enter the advanced options.
- Set the picture offsets to 0, and make it fill the screen.
Sorry I can't refine this, I'm a bit short on time tonight. Let me know if this works!
Re: Guwange 360
Honestly the display issue sucks. Very stupid oversight.
I still think it worth a pruchase just for the amount of times I've played the game for free. But yeah, its dissapointing. It could have been close to a perfect port. Excluding other minor issues not related to gameplay or display.
RNG you're a dumbfuck by the way. Fyi.

Any resolution under 1280x720 has borders, it can't be changed via options. This is an actual problem coded into the XBLA port itself.StarCreator wrote:Okay, I was too impatient to fully test this, but I think there's a workaround to get full 4:3. Be warned, it's convoluted:
This depends on the assumption that you can adjust the X and Y axes on an extra screen independently, since it seems you can't do this to the main screen.

Re: Guwange 360
About the arrange modes:
Shouldn't the blue-mode be the more difficult mode? Strange thing is, I think it's easier than the arcade-mode... I managed to get to the 3rd Boss on my first coin in the blue-mode, whereas I was obliterated by the second boss in the arcade mode...
Didn't try out the xbox-mode, as I didn't bother plugging in my controller and been playing with stick.

I know that feel. I started a thread about this on there, I think 2 people commented on the port and the rest were crying about region free or trolling.RNGmaster wrote:Sorry, I thought I was on 4chan. I get easily confused.
There was an OK STG general thread earlier too, but plenty of idiots as expected. Some guy saying everyone should give up on shmups because the only people who play them are "divas" and Touhou folk getting frustrated at being insulted. Urrrrhhg.
I find the same exact same thing. It is also much easier to chain in Blue.Drachenherz wrote:About the arrange modes:

Many ways to play a game. Would be a pretty boring planet if everyone thought like this...sikraiken wrote:I'm disappointed that people actually enjoy playing this game or want to... Stupid boss coin leeching.
Re: Guwange 360
There's no arrange soundtrack. The soundtrack in the XBLA version sounds around 100 times better than the horribly compressed music on the PCB though. Sounds basically the same as on the OST CD. Oh, and Cave added a new (excellent IMO) piece of music for the title screen/menus.chempop wrote:Anyway, how's the arrange soundtrack, I heard that it is pretty bad lol.
Re: Guwange 360
Arrange Mode is hilarious! It's like Asada just sat down and said "How can we make Guwange easy as fuck? I know, let's make everything cancellable!" I will say that's it's a lot of fun... in a "lol, I'm kicking the ever-living shit out of a Cave game" sort of way. G-Blue is really weird... jacked up chaining with lower scoring. Arcade is just as punishing as ever (a massive contrast to Arrange). On my 20 inch tate SD set, the playable area is about 17 inches, which is workable (the game does look good through S-Vid).
And yes, the lack of proper 3:4 support is fucking stupid. Cave need to either add a selection to display in 16:9 or 4:3, or allow independent scaling of the X and Y axes (which will allow full screen by enacting anamorphic widescreen in the dash and then stretching the Y axis).

Yes. There are borders top/bottom that are approx. 2 inches high.dan76 wrote:Does that mean that the image is squashed flat?bcass wrote: I have a widescreen CRT, with the Xbox set to widescreen and there are borders top/bottom, as per DS2X.
That probably works, but I don't want to be changing the 360 options everytime I want to play Guwange. Luckily (for me) my TV has a Zoom option and functions to change vertical hight via the remote, so I can get rid of the borders, but it's something I shouldn't have to do everytime I want to play this game.dan76 wrote:This might be obvious, but couldn't you set the xbox to 4:3 and then use the zoom function on the tv. Re: Guwange 360
I have an old-school TV (those box things I believe to be the 'CRTs' everyone's talking about), black borders are there but I honestly don't find it annoying. I've been playing Xbox 360 Arrange Mode and firstly:
1. Music is no different
2. I find it fun but considerably easier than the other modes. I have no complaints about difficulty, if I want to go hard I'll play Blue mode or Arcade original.
My only complaint is that the said options for the graphical stuff are greyed out, I have no idea why this is and I'm certainly not experienced in configuring TVs on the level that all you TATErs have to find out. I guessed it was a HDTV-exclusive thing.
Overall, I'm not a Cave fan but I feel this game is worth my money. The complaints I've heard in this thread aren't the same ones I have (not saying they're invalid entirely, just invalid in relation to my experience).
And since there's no thread for the Xbox 360 version of Guwange yet (is there a general Guwange thread that's updated with this in mind?), my highest score on Xbox 360 Arrange mode is 91,114,261 with Shishin (the masked guy).

Re: Guwange 360
Xbox360 arrange mode is. . . very boring. I'm playing on a stick and 70% of the time I park my shikigami in the center of the screen and the bullets just cancel nonstop. I don't know, maybe I'm not playing it right. Also, I have to "throw" my shikigami to certain areas of the screen. It would be nice to have a button where you can hold to move the shiki for the people playing on a stick.
Blue mode is great. I'm not sure how the scoring works, but it's fun. I like the fact you can cancel a lot more bullets. Ended up dying in stage 5 because stage 4 boss's last pattern threw me off a lot.

I'm not sure, though I noticed in Training Mode there's four difficulty modes (this was in X360 Arrange mode, might be different for the others). I did a small play of it and it felt the same to me, but keep in mind with MAME what controller you're using and what version (Shmupmame has less lag input for example).Drachenherz wrote:And to make this post relevant:

I'm using Shmupmame and a Hori Real Arcade Pro for PS3, all Sanwa... and on the Box I use a MadCatz TE, also all Sanwa. So the input should be basically more or less the same.BPzeBanshee wrote:I'm not sure, though I noticed in Training Mode there's four difficulty modes (this was in X360 Arrange mode, might be different for the others).
