New Berserk Anime

Post by Acid King »

I caught one of these teasers while randomly browsing youtube. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited. The first series is one of my favorites and the comics are even better. Hopefully they'll go all out and cover more from the comics. The skeleton knight appears in one of the teasers so that gives me hope.

Very nice. The first series kinda ended on a cliffhanger but i sure hope series number 2 doesn't skip on details this time. (the main plot was there but it needed fleshing out, and di they even talk about guts being bumraped?)

They definitely skip a lot, and Gambino selling Guts for a night definitely was a big thing to cut. Honestly, I don't know how they would have continued the first series because of how much they changed.

I was certainly dissapointed by the huge lack of demons up until the last couple of episodes...and no puck!

Whatever they do, I hope they can move beyond the first story arc. I wish they'd just start where the first anime left off--not that it couldn't be redone, but that's so much old ground to tread.

You should see Elfen Lied. That gets pretty messy too.

I remember Never_Scurred watching it months ago and being pissed off at all the pointless fanservice. This crap kills anime for me, thank God Berserk doesn't have any of that.

On the one hand, it looks pretty.

On the other hand, my favorite parts of Berserk Abridged was when Guts rambled on about crazy nonsense about some skullknight saving them in order of plot importance, the choking fetish ("Aw Griffith, you've got it all wrong! I prefer to be the chokER, not the chokEE"), and how everyone is a prostitute.

To this day I still tell people I hate them more than Final Fantasy 8...

Best news ever!!! It looks sooo nice, I can't wait.
Judging from the snippets, I'm clueless as if it will be a partial remake, or continuation from where the first series ended.

I don't remember all that much fanservice in it. It's very good and what "fanservice" there is serves the atmosphere of the anime. I'd say even though theres lots of blood it also has excellent character development for such a short series (13 eps)

Berserk is a really great series, manga or anime, one of my favorite of all time. The manga itself kind of went downhill story wise in the Hawk of the Millenium Empire story arc IMO. Still, it will be nice to hopefully see the first story arcs covered correctly in animation.

I enjoyed the first series, but I REALLY didn't care for all the homo-eroticism.

Miura needs to start being so damn lazy and do at least bi-weekly or monthly releases with some actual story progression. All that the Guts party has done in 11 months of chapters this year is getting stranded in an island. LAME.

I'd be excited at a Berserk anime when the story has finished and they can deliver the whole story in anime format. 10 years wait between 25 episode animes is BS.

I bet if it had been lesbians it would need more of it.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I liked the homo stuff myself (...don't quote me on that when I run for office). It's about time that a male main character gets raped a time or two in an anime or manga because lord knows every female character gets their fair share. It really fits with the world of Berserk where no one makes it out unscathed.

I'm glad to see the new anime but I kind of thought the first was fine as it was. The Golden Age arc is by far the best part of the series (the best of any series in comics, really, except for maybe Miracleman) and I thought they did it justice even with the omissions. I'm more concerned with the direction of the manga and how Miura seems to be treading water (so to speak) with all of the dicking around at sea and on some island. There's been some bizarre deaths lately of manga and anime creators (Crayon Shinchan fell off a cliff earlier this year and Space Battleship Yamato's drugged-out, gun-toting co-creator fell off a boat last week) so Miura better wrap this up before the axe falls.

Yeah, one of my biggest fears in life is Miura dying before he even finishes it. Seriously, I think about it a lot.

Wow, this is seriously good news. Judging from the videos, the animation seems top-notch, among the best I've seen for what supposedly isn't a full-length movie. Considering they're going to cover that much with animation so rich, it will likely be a long-running OVA series akin to Legend of Galactic Heroes or Hellsing Ultimate.

See also:
Director Hiroyuki Kitakubo wrote in his Twitter account on Tuesday that he heard that 4[blank]C is making Berserk as a full-CG anime. He added that [blank]°C might be attempting to make an in-house motion capture studio. He prefaced his comments by saying that he apologizes in advance if someone considers what he posts to be confidential information.
4°C, fuck yes. One of the best anime studios for sure.

Btw, did I just see Casca's body covered with leaves in all the "right" places? Of all things, Berserk should not be censored like that. :\

Excellent character development, now that is interesting. :D May I ask you a couple questions on that? Like how exactly do the characters develop there? How do they change throughout; do you learn something unexpected about them, some fine details that make them lovable?

Now let's count the more-or-less obvious fanservice elements, since you don't remember:
— gratuitous violence (this goes without saying; the entire show uses brutality as its driving force);
— gratuitous nudity and related themes/situations that are entirely optional;
— girls with cat ears (ffs);
— lots of assorted moe elements among female characters that are supposed to make them more lovable.

Then there is a guy who is about as simple and predictable as a doorknob for a protagonist, but that's hardly fanservice, more like poor writing.

So this is out in a few days. Anyone going (or able to go)?

I got a pamphlet thing they were passing out for free at the bookstore that said the next one will be out in June already. It's titled "The Raid on Doldorei" or something so I guess we know how much area this first one will cover. The third movie will be out in the winter, date as yet undetermined.

Second movie out in 5 months? Wow, that's less than what Miura takes to draw 15 pages nowadays.

Yea, it kind of stings to realize they've been heading to Elfhelm for ten years now, our time.

In an interview the other day about the new anime, Miura mentioned that he had intended on finishing the series when he was in his 20s, then 30s...and now he said maybe by his 60s.:?

^Greattttttttt. He really needs to finish it; he is losing his touch. I can't even finish the last book because I find it so dreadful and silly. I'll keep reading, but I've kinda lost hope on the manga being "different" than everything else on the current market.

There's a new clip of the Berserk movie, unfortunately I had to say I was quite dissapointed. The overuse of 3D cel-shaded CG is readily apparent and it just looks like a half-assed videogame cutscene :/
