Spadgy's in Montreal (for MIGS and Unite).

Post by spadgy »

Hey everyone - I'm in Montreal from November 7th to 14th.

I'm there working, at the Montreal International Game Summit and the Unite (an event for users of the Unity game development technology), so I'll be busy, but I hope to have some free time. I'll be staying in the center of the city.

Any of you lot what to meet up? Maybe there's an arcade or cab somewhere we can throw some credits into and talk some shit...

Sadly I'll be unlikely to escape Montreal. Still, the way the games industry is gradually all moving to Canada, no doubt there'll be a work trip to Toronto soon!

Montreal will be my second trip to Canada in three weeks!

make sure to try and give me a heads up when you are coming to Toronto so I can plan something to coiincide.

I'd love to hang with someone who really appreciates neo drift out for the masterpiece that it is!

But ya, pretty sure Alien Soldier and King Buzzo are in Montreal. Drop them a line perhaps.

yeah, no cabs here =/

The downtown Arcade is decent if you're into racing games (r-tuned, sr3, outrun2, etc), or fighters (3s, cvs2, SFIV). Not sure what Alien Soldier is up to, but I sent you a pm.

Hey man - thanks for the PM. I'm crazy busy right now, but I'll reply to your PM once the working day is done.

A shame there's no shooters, but I'd love to meet up at the arcade on Wednesday anyway. I'm staying at the Hilton Bonaventure on de la Gauchetiere W. Hell - I don't even know where that is, but I'd be happy to make my way to the arcade, so let me know the address if you have it. Be great to meet a local (or two, if Alien Soldier gets the PM) and talk some crap!

Cool, well here's the arcade downtown. Its right by my classes so I'll be in the area most of the day. They actually have one US shmup cab that they alternate with Strikers III and Raiden Fighters iirc.

Not a far walk from the Hilton.

Awesome night last night Kingbuzzo. Thanks for being an awesome and hilarious host.

I talked an embarrassing amount of shit and we had a great time with Strikers 1945 III and Razing Sotrm. I got it handed to me on Street Fighter IV too.

And that was really crazy having that guy getting so excited over my shoulder while I was playing 1945 III. He was acting like I was one-lifeing a 2-ALL. I was doing OK by my standard - very OK by my crap standard in fact - but it was still nothing amazing by any average standard. The guy's dramatic exclamation would of been annoyingly off putting if it wasn't so funny. It made me giggle like an idiot! It was pretty weird right Kingbuzzo? Or is that standard in Montréal?

Thanks again!

Man, that guy. He was so impressed haha. I think he's in the arcade quite a bit, but has never seen anyone be decent at a shmup before. And yeah, that's no everyday folk. He was something special alright! I was pretty impressed by your consistent ability to bomb within 1 frame of being hit all the time. If I wasn't so reserved I might have been right there yelling "OH SHIT NO WAAYYY SON!" with that guy.

Glad we were able to meet up, I had a blast. Now I have to make a pilgrimage to Casino!

Also, you'll have to remind me of some of the shows and comedians I need to check out. My memory became less and less reliable as the night went on. :p

I was going to PM you all that stuff actually. I'll do so tonight.

And yeah - you're owed some Casino hospitality! It would be great to have you there for an evening or two.

I'm kinda bummed out. I made 2 trips to Montreal in September and probably walked by that arcade 2-3 times while I was there, but didn't notice.

I've got some credits burning a hole in my pocket, so I'm back off to the Montréal downtown arcade at about 7pm EST. Pop in if anybody is passing. I'll be on Initial D 4, Strikers and pinball.
