Re: The Platform you use most?
I dislike emulators for any serious play and prefer the real thing.
1. PC Engine
2. Saturn
3. Megadrive
4. SFC
I want to get hold of a Japanese PS2.
Having said all that I am very partial to tatsujin 2 and am really miffed that it's not still there at Casino Arcade London...
I think the best overall for older Shmups is the PC Eninge and the Saturn.

The rest just aren't posting in this thread because they have PCBs to play...spadgy wrote:But still, the relatively lack of Jamma users surprises me. There's a lot of us here!

PC, I don't have a interest in buying any of the 3 systems of today.

Dreamcast. The only "newer" system I own so far, has many awesome shooters, especially from my two favourite developers: Psikyo and Takumi. The rest of the console´s library also has some of my alltime favourites with Soul Calibur, MDK 2 and Crazy Taxi. Later I might see how the Dreamcast compares to other systems, PS2 or 360 should get into my collection soon.
Mega Drive would be 2nd, but barely got any playtime lately. I´ve spent hours on hours on Contra: Hard Corps and Streets of Rage II alone.

If MAME tells me anything, it's the Seibu SPI...

In all honesty, I've been playing the logic probe more than anything lately.
I need to play more games

Sega Genesis, SNES, MAME
Sega Genesis has mad good shmups though. I call it the shmup system, cause of the legitimate success of numerous amounts of satisfying shmups. xD

You can always buy a PC gamepad to have the same experience. I have this one for example.MintyTheCat wrote:I dislike emulators for any serious play and prefer the real thing.

Macintosh. It has an awesome Centipede rip-off called Apeiron X that sucks up almost all of my time.

Re: The Platform you use most?
XBLA makes me play most shmups more. I dunno what it is about the leaderboards that make it feel instantly more competitive and connected but it has me buying pretty much everything there is for it. Plus Mushi Futari Plat dropping to an affordable price will have a lot to say about that too.
I still play PS2 and even the Wii is seeing some love with the Milestone pack and Shiki III. Of course the PC has MAME32/DC/etc going with 40 odd shmups at all times on a LCD with the 360 controller.
Honestly if they would port a few key shmups to XBLA I wouldn't need anything else.

That's why you (and everybody else on the forum) should post score over in the Hi Scores area of this forum. Playing for score to climb a table is so much more rewarding, meaningful and fun. Get involved the lot of you!mangadrive wrote:XBLA makes me play most shmups more.
