Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
I'd like to see a diagram on how a PS2 can be connected via this thing without a pad hack. I'm trying to figure it out in my head but some pieces are missing.
In order for any console to work in the way described it must connect to the consoles controller port right? Then this module thing must be at the other end of the controller cable and I assume that snaps into the adapter converting the signals to jamma. Which means you need to make a whole lot of module cables for each console.
Or am I wrong still?

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
Thanks Viletim, a very quick and totally practical reply - much appreciated.
My mistake on the DIN connector thing - personally I actually use these:
http://www.reveal.co.uk/index.php?main_ ... cts_id=873
They are stupidly cheap, very robust and provide a set of 20 wires ready to hack to any pad - offers loads of options for multi button pads like DC etc. I cut off one of the the female parts and this is hardwired to the Jamma adaptor (or fingerboard)* - take a bunch of the male adaptors and one of these in turn is hardwired to all the seperate pads I use (SFC, PCE, MD, SATURN, PS, DC, N64) - each one can then be configured to my personal taste to mate with the universal female socket.
* I am not familiar with the IDC connector but thanks for that tip - your board will make it easy to then solder one of these direct to the 20 pin Molex ATX connectors I use instead.
And line output is stereo? - fantastic! Problems all solved now - waiting eagerly for one now! Having said that though IMHO I would still prefer the original - just for simplicity and the overall design and Jamma socket thing still suits what I need - and of course going by the rave reviews of the picture quality that all the 'early adopters' have reported. If the picture quality is at least as good on the MKII though then that will be fine - will you personally be overseeing the manufacturing of these and quality controlling them as you did with the MKI?
[edit] - one more thing - of course Jamma only provides 4 buttons - so as it stands anyone connecting a console (dating after the SFC, Saturn etc with 6 + buttons) has to hack into the kick harness or make their own configuration anyway - how will your adaptors work in this respect constrained by only 4 buttons on Jamma? Doesn't worry me as I'l hack up my own thing but interested anyway!

thanks viletim. I definitely want one. I hope everything goes smooth so you can get these out. About how many are you making? I may need two, but I'm not sure at the moment.

Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
Unfortunately, I'm quite impatient, and I can order the Jpac video and controller converters now, or I can wait for this to come out. I'll wait if it is worth it though. Can anybody confirm that viletim's video converters perform better than the Jpac stuff for PS3? I read on one of the first posts that the jpac had some problems in particular with Tekken 5, and Gradius 5.

Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
J-Pac has issues with EVERYTHING except a computer running emulators through an ArcadeVGA in my experience. I have the PS2+DC adapters+video cables, and it can't even handle the colors correctly (for PS2). You will regret getting a J-Pac instead of this.burgerkingdiamond wrote:Unfortunately, I'm quite impatient, and I can order the Jpac video and controller converters now, or I can wait for this to come out. Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
emphatic is spot on with his info about the J-PAC Console Adapters , i myself have bought them it was a total waste of money and doesnt work right ........multiple issues.
J-PAC running PC emulators works great its just the Console part that bites. I highly recommend viletims Console Adapter you should wait till it is released and ready for purchase.

Looking forward to this. R-Type Final should look great on an MS9

Cables for each console is not a problem so long as they are ordered in significant volume (1K+).neorichieb1971 wrote:In order for any console to work in the way described it must connect to the consoles controller port right? I didn't just oversee the manufacturing on the previous version, I made them all by hand. This wasn't at all sustainable, and I had no intention of making more that 50 pcs this way. Also, the design is optimised for assembly by my own processes and is not well suited to assembly by a real factory.Max... wrote:And line output is stereo? - fantastic! The new version will be assembled by a contract manufacturer in China. I source all the parts, they put it all together. Well, that's the theory, in practice it's not quite as simple as that...
There are several options. While classic JAMMA has provision for only four buttons, there are enough unused tabs on the JAMMA connector for six buttons per player and seven if one is willing to use the coin input. Seven buttons per player should be enough for anybody, but it requires a bit of rewiring of the pannel.Max... wrote: [edit] - one more thing - of course Jamma only provides 4 buttons - so as it stands anyone connecting a console (dating after the SFC, Saturn etc with 6 + buttons) has to hack into the kick harness or make their own configuration anyway - how will your adaptors work in this respect constrained by only 4 buttons on Jamma? Another option is to intercept the kick harness. I'm still trying to find out how many different types there are and decide it it's worthwile trying to provide sockets on some kind of kick harness board or just providing pluggable terminal blocks with instructions to cut off the original kick harness connector.
250 pieces main boardburgerkingdiamond wrote: I hope everything goes smooth so you can get these out. About how many are you making?
280 pieces control expansion 1
control expansion 2 is made on demand
Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
Is the IDC connector a 2 x 10? Not familiar with these - can you point me to a link (ebay or whatever) showing a solderable plug as discussed earlier that would mate with your connector please?
And any idea on price (need to know whether to hold out!) - will China manufacturing make it more economical than the MKI or less so?

Oh man, this sounds exactly like what I need. I'm in for 1 (or maybe 2...). Here's hoping I make it on the list for one and that manufacturing goes well!!

Re: Console --> Arcade monitor adapter (SOLD OUT)
Yeah I just don't want to mess with any adapters. It's going to be enough of a mess by the time I get the console setup and the control interface attached too. It's my loss I suppose, but I don't want to mess with it.antron wrote:looks like he did.brentsg wrote:Did you stick with only EU SCART?

That screw connector is the only external option then, or will there be a JAMMA female one available as well?

Sign me up for one of these too! I just got my first cab and found this thread from a link on Arcade Otaku. Aside from having to get a SCART adapter this looks perfect.
