PS3 not coming out in US until December 2006....
I was over at my loca GameCrazy last night getting a disc buffered, when I asked Frank, "So what month next spring is the PS3 coming out?" . He responded by informing me that the PS3 isn't coming out here in the US until December of NEXT year!
It should be mentioned that GameCrazy employees, especially Frank, are VERY knowledgeable-lest someone respond to this post with, "teh game storez employeez are teh dumBzorz."
At any rate, I actually view this "delay" as a good thing-it will give Empire more time to get out the US rev. of Taito Arcade Classics, maybe PS2 owners will finally get that SNK Classics Collection, and perhaps even some more ports of the JP PS2 Sega Ages series.

I would say that is rubbish. Over a year after the Japanese release? No.

Contrary to your thread title, December of next year is Dec. 2006dave4shmups wrote:I was over at my loca GameCrazy last night getting a disc buffered, when I asked Frank, "So what month next spring is the PS3 coming out?" . Like we won't be seeing an influx of PS2 bargain bin and compilation-type games for years to come after the PS3 arrives. Backwards compatability did wonders for sales of cheap-ass PSX games, which are probably still coming out here and there. I don't see any reason to think the PS3's coming out will greatly affect the continuing release of non-top-tier PS2 titles.dave4shmups wrote:At any rate, I actually view this "delay" as a good thing-it will give Empire more time to get out the US rev. of Taito Arcade Classics, maybe PS2 owners will finally get that SNK Classics Collection, and perhaps even some more ports of the JP PS2 Sega Ages series.

That makes more sense. However, the PS3 release dates Sony are pitching have so far not really stated which region.nZero wrote:Contrary to your thread title, December of next year is Dec. 2006
I think I recall Ken Kutaragi even saying that they wanted to get the Japanese launch in-line with the US to get a simultaneous release.

I don't know what else to tell you guys. I just called the manager of the same Gamecrazy store, and asked him if this was true-didn't mention the name of the employee who told me-and he said, that "yes, it's just been pushed back".
So what if SCEA hasn't said anything yet? If this "just" happened, that would make sense.
And I fail to see what is so unbelievable about an American console coming out a year after it's Japanese counterpart.
Didn't the SNES come out in 1991, and the SFC in 1990?

Ok, I'm going to sound like a dick here, but how is this news? Of course it's not going to come out in the US until Christmas of next year. Is that surprising to anyone? This is how it always works. I could have told you last year that the PS3 would likely launch around March of 06 in Japan and sometime around November of 06 in the US.
And those guys at Gamecrazy don't have any special info. All they have is an estimate made up by their corporation. When I worked at Gamestop we'd get emails all the damn time that would have made-up dates. They told us in January to start telling people that Zelda for the Cube was a sure thing for June of this year. Everyone knew it was bullshit, but we did it to boost preorders.
Even Sony doesn't likely know an exact date as they have yet to totally finalize the design and hardware and haven't begun any sort of production. No one knows what sort of mishaps/miracles could come up between here and there to change dates.

FULL LOCK is BOMB
Agreed with 8.5. Besides, we need to see what kind of screw up they come up with hardware-wise, and Kutaragi's arrogant explanation telling us why we should learn to live with it.
Perhaps they'll make the discs octogonal, instead of round. And we shouldn't dare to question the design of a window, and Kutaragi's l337 sense of architectural design.

Read what I wrote earlier, that's exactly what I was trying to argue.8 1/2 wrote:Ok, I'm going to sound like a dick here, but how is this news? .

I could really give a rip about the PS3, even despite what nZero wrote, a Fall '06 release date would give SCEA more time to get a lot more games released then a Fall '05, or even Spring '06 release date would, IMO.

My bet would be October 2006 in the US to capitalise on the Thanksgiving and Christmas periods.
