^That is a really good game. It was super cool how they made that for the twenty fifth anniversary, then the first time any body saw it was when they played it for the finals at the world championship they held for Pacman, like it was Super Mario 3 in the movie The Wizard. IF I had time to play it, I would be playing New Vegas. I loved Fallout 3. With my job and trying to fix up my cabinets, I don't have the time for such a long game (I miss college....). Speaking of non-shmups, could anybody explain to me what in the fucking hell is Id@lMasters? I was on elixir's blog a few months ago and he was raving about it.

Played Commando (AC) with a few friends most of this morning. Never liked this game's controls at all, but add autofire, company and hangovers, and you've got a bullet-sprayin' jingotastic good time! Something about the way the little grey-uniformed guys thrash about like skewered roaches makes me want to kill even more of them while shouting Axis / Commie-defaming slurs in a bad John Wayne accent. When a mate yelled "Get Fidel Castro!!" as that 2000pt olive drab dude showed up for a lead sandwich, I knew I hadn't bought Capcom Generation 4 for Gun.Smoke alone after all.

I might try to play this game seriously now. Still dislike Mercs, though.

The controls are just so awkward when trying to return fire while evading. Commando has the same issue, but the madcap atmosphere (and ability to lob grenades vertically while on the run) make up for it. Maybe it'll click with me someday as well.

After pre-ordering Okamiden I decided I'd better actually sit down and try to finish the original Okami first...enjoying it quite a lot, though I imagine that those without the OCD urge to "restore" everything might find the pacing too sluggish.

Oh hey, Mercs is pretty cool. Once I realised it's not a big deal to take the occasional wafty bullet (as opposed to a tank shell / missile / bazooka round) it got a lot more enjoyable. The offensively-geared bombing is pretty fun too. But damn, the early-90s CPS1 art and music make me sorely wish Capcom had included 1941 on CG Volume 1.

I find it hard to go back to run n' guns without some form of locked directional aiming, though. Metal Slug has something of the sort with the fixed vertical shot most weapons use, but Shock Troopers' and Wolf Fang's one-button strafing controls are nirvana.

Most of my gaming needs to be put on hold at the moment for SFIII: 3S, as there's gonna be a big fighting game tourney in Melbourne next month. I think it's mostly a SFIV thing, but I'm sure 3rd Strike will be there, and while not officially announced yet, there might be some really big names there, so I must train up! Might sneak in a little bit of Counter-Strike: Source and of course some STG time each day, though.

Getting into Dragon Age Origins on 360 after an 8 month hiaitus. Game is beginning to warm on me but I'm still constantly fustrated that there's no 'move to' command for your allies - just have to rely on the AI and hope they don't run headlong into a trap for the 1,000th time. Why they didn't give the option for overhead camera and rts style controls for the consol versions is beyond me...

SNES Zelda for the 1st time ever, Ive completed the NES version a couple of years ago using a FAQ, The Snes version while prittier is alot easier imo as i didnt bother using a FAQ to play this (apart from looking up how to get the 4th Jar) I am starting to enjoy it more now im getting towards the end and the difficulty is slighty higher, still i do prefer the original. Zelda 1 has more enemies in an area which keeps you on your toes, plus plays faster and more arcade like. One aspect that is way too easy that its broken is that the game gives you way too many rupees, im always at 999 with nothing to buy only the odd potion.

I would of thought more retro fans would of prefered the original, instead of everyone saying zelda 3 is their favorite. Maybe its because its easier to beat making it more kid / sucky gamer friendly.

BTW has anyone played the JPN Link to the Past? is it the same difficulty as the english zelda or did nintendo fuck about with the gameplay in some way?

Link to the Past is one of the most overrated games ever. I really don't understand why people worship it at all. It's a great game, yeah, but the praise it gets is beyond me. I'd take Legend of Zelda any day, any time.

Funny, A Link to the Past is IMO the best Zelda game, period. 2D or 3D nothing beats A Link to the Past. Probably a good mix of nostalgia in there but damn that game is awesome.
