Starchon Shmup

Post by FreelanceGames »

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to announce an XBLIG Shmup for the Xbox 360 called Starchon. Please give the game a try and post your feedback. I'll be giving away a few Xbox codes if the feedback is good. I really want to here what people think (the pros and the cons).

Thanks

I saw the title and thought it said Starcon shmup. Then I saw this and was sad :(

Why were you sad? Does the game look bad?

No, it just doesn't look like a Starcon shmup - I really want to lay waste to enemies with an Utwig Juggernaut. I have no idea if this looks bad or good as I haven't watched the trailer, but will do so as soon as my internet stops flaking out.

EDIT: It actually does look quite a lot like a Starcon shmup.

There is a free trial on the Xbox at the link I provided above. Give it a try and provide me with feedback on improving the game and I'll throw you a code.

Thanks for pointing us to the demo- I like what I've seen so far. The graphics are well done and to the point, and that frigate is suitably phallic but I would definitely like much more thrust on the ship and power in the weapons (maybe that comes later when it's all upgraded). I want to feel like I'm ZAPPING the enemies not shooting them with a peashooter on a NES. Also LB needs to toggle the star map off and on, cos switching the map off with B when it's been switched on with LB is counter-intuitive and broke the flow. Also some bombs or selectable secondary weapons would be nice as would some kind of scoring mechanic with bonuses or multipliers.
I like the way you progress through missions and upgrade as you go along- like Jets'n'Guns in space :D
So yeah, keep up the good work and keep us posted!

Put the demo in the dl-queue, I'll give it a try when I'm back home. Gonna edit this post then.

e: Just finished the demo. I find the concept of protecting something quite refreshing. The ship did feel a little slow, explosions seemed also slow and therefor a little bit odd and bombs would be nice. But all in all a good game. Unfortunately without any scoring-mechanic it doesn't ssem to have much replay-value, but I could be wrong with that.

What kind of scoring-mechanic would you like to see?

Hmmm, thats a good question, never thought about it really. I guess chaining would be nice, or multiplieers as mjclark suggested.

Yeah-chaining, medals, some multipliers and hidden bonuses would spice things up a bit :D
