Random Ranting post No. 7864: Billy and Mandy. Why?

Post by Specineff »

All right, maybe I'm getting too old, or it's just myself, but I just can't see why the &%$#@! does Cartoon Network keep on broadcasting this unfunny piece of doo-doo.

The stories are not interesting, Mandy is boring as hell (so you got an attitude? Your problem, you little bitch.) Billy is the most unfunny and annoying character ever designed for a cartoon, and the fact that it's the Grim Reaper working as a nanny for them is plain.. how can I say it? Oh yeah. LAME!

Reapers are supposed to be cool, to begin with. And the worst part, is that it has the same voice director (Kris Zimmerman) and some of the actors that worked on Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2. (Quinton Flynn doesn't deserve this even if he was Raiden, gosh dang it!)

Believe me, I have forced myself to watch it, trying to find one single moment that makes me chuckle, a reference to a popular show from the past, anything that would justify the use of electricity consumed by my TV.

The jokes are not funny, the storylines are boring, and I just don't see the point. "Gee, let's make a cartoon with a boring little bitch and a character that MUST surpass Patrick from Spongebob in absolute lameness, and throw in the Grim Reaper as their guardian. I'm a genius! Rachel, please bring me my Napoleon hat, I'm having a moment here!", said the producer.

Please, somebody prove me wrong. Please do tell me it's only me because I'm a foreigner, or because I like wearing natural-fiber socks that I don't get it.

Freakazoid was funny. Earthworm Jim was funny. Even Ed, Edd and Eddy, which I don't really like, can make me chuckle. And don't get me started on how much CN spams it all freaking day long all freaking week long. I thought only Scooby Doo had that honor.

(Yeah, I know, I can simply turn off my TV. I just want your opinion.)

Thanks.

Yeah, that show sucks. So does Ed Edd & Eddy, which has the most annoying character since that talking hanna barbera car(the stupid ed's sister who always yells)

No, you're not missing anything. That show is just... krep. Ed, Edd and Eddy is proof that the studios are now buying their animation by the pound. To be honest, about the only CN show I ever watch anymore is Teen Titans, and maybe an occasional episode of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (at least they make some effort to animate it decent, even though the writing is your basic "Generic teenage cartoon plot #47" stuff.)

My choice for the best cartoon on TV right now would be Fairly Oddparents, no contest. In general the Nickelodeon stuff is reasonably good, even if it is a bit derivative (Take some kids, add spastic and largely clueless parents who don't understand the kids at all, add deus ex machina and serve.

And I'm glad to hear there's at least someone else out there who recognizes the brilliance of Freakazoid. I wish they'd hurry up and put it on DVD...

Oh, it's inane but the concept is mildly amusing and good to veg out to. It's no work of art but still better than most of the crap cartoons out these days on US TVs.

I loved it, but then I've only seen a couple of eps. One of the episodes had something like a 5 minute scene of Billy just 'spazzing out' though. It was pretty painful to watch so I guess it can be hit-and-miss at times. Overall I like it though.
I remember laughing at a scene where a group of nuns formed into a huge battle-robot.

There's an intense debate going on at one of the other forums I post on about how many times Mandy has smiled. :)

The pilot episode was decent, but yeah, I think the show turned out pretty bad. The creator, Maxwell Atoms, was only involved with the show for a single season or so - and those episodes were occassionally amusing. Now it's just crap.

I'm not much of a fan of Billy and Mandy either...I think they're hoping to sell it more on its weirdness and slightly disturbing moments (a flesh-eating Pinocchio, et al) rather than anything particularly entertaining. Of course, I always thought that Evil Con Carne was even worse.

As far as Ed, Edd and Eddy goes, though, I didn't like it much when I first saw it, but it's grown on me over time.

The only time I'll ever watch Cartoon Network is when Aqua Teen Hunger Force is on. That's all.
