Re: The Platform you use most?
The 360 gets the most playtime, but as you might expect I have far more stuff on PC + MAME.
Been getting into Dreamcast shmups pretty heavily, though.

Probably Saturn and Xbox360.
PS2, Dreamcast, Genesis/SegaCD, and Mame gets lots of use too.

Varies, as I'm pretty sure we all have phases.
These days I use my X360 a lot, but a few months ago it was Saturn/Genny only.

PC is pretty easily the best platform for shooters to the point where you might as well dispense with anything else.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Re: The Platform you use most?
Wouldn't be without my PS1, PS2, Saturn, DC or 360. There's at least one exclusive port on each that if I'm not playing now, I plan on playing later on.
edit: I guess my DC is the most used right now, thanks to Under Defeat.
I was going to get into SNES, Genesis and PCE shooters, but since I prefer arcade titles I decided I couldn't justify the additional bulk or cost. I'd still love to own stuff like Spriggan and Winds of Thunder, though.

Geeze, I don't even know...I wish I could say PC Engine, but I still don't even own a damned shmup for it...I'm thinking pretty soon once I get a JP 360 it'll probably be that.

PC, followed occasionally by DS...rare now though, don't like buying new games for it.
Hmm, does arcade count as a platform?
SNES and Genesis definitely take up space, completely worth it in my opinion though!

You can always emulate PC-E / TG-16 with the original discs. Of course there are problems with Magic Engine but other emus ought to be coming around.BIL wrote:I was going to get into SNES, Genesis and PCE shooters, but since I prefer arcade titles I decided I couldn't justify the additional bulk or cost. About 50/50 between Shmupping on the JP 360 and Shmupping on Mame

Re: The Platform you use most?
I go in phases.
Right now, i'm playing my PS3 and Xbox 360 the most. 360 probably gets most of the return business, because of the shmups(obviously).
Sometimes, i'll go retro and just play my Wii's VC games.
PS2 was the main system I played, but it hasn't gotten much action lately(not that it doesn't have great games...I think I just played them all to death).
Kind of a rambling answer. Sorry.

Re: The Platform you use most?
Teetering between NES and Genesis for now, I should fire up the Saturn a bit more as I recently picked up a couple games for it. I also recently picked up Raycrisis, but it's the Japanese version and the PSX is the only system I have not import friendly, so emulation with the real disc is the way to go for me for now.

Definitely Dreamcast and Snes lately thanks to mars matrix and area 88. I rarely play on MAME anymore but I suppose PC would come in as number three.

Ps3 and Jamma cabinets. Everything else is boxed away.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Re: The Platform you use most?
I can't boast 100%, but 90% of my shmup playtime is definitely PCB/Jamma, and much of that is in a real arcade. Once I started playing of of boards, consoles have paled a little in comparison.yosai wrote:+1THE wrote:100% pure JAMMA
Still, my 360 and PS1 get a lot of love, and I've just embraced the world of the PC Engine.

All these get roughly equal playtime.....
MAME, Dreamcast, J360

Re: The Platform you use most?
Hmm... very hard to say. I suppose PC, what with MAME and other emulators. After that it's either DS or Wii (if you count all the GC games I play on it). Got a PS3 recently, and have been playing quite a bit, but I think I'm going to run out of games that really interest me for that platform fairly soon. Over my entire life, it's SNES hands down.

Re: The Platform you use most?
PC pretty much most of the time (MAME+a truckload of doujins: it's just so damn much I have more than enough shooters to play for the next years) with PS2/PSX/Saturn closely following.

Re: The Platform you use most?
My PS2 is the only console I always have hooked up, but that has more to do with Beatmania than shmups. For shmups specifically, I use my Turbografx CD Tower of Power the most.
