Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
So I'm very pumped up for this releases on XBLA. I've never had a chance to play Radiant Silvergun and I can't wait. However, although I really do like Ikaruga...the graphics, music, and tight gameplay...that game really kicks my ass and I just find that after awhile, I get more frustrated with it than anything...and no matter how much I play I don't seem to get better. I don't find myself playing it nearly as much as Cave shooters.
Can I expect the same thing from RSG? I know it doesn't have a polarity system (that I'm aware of) but is it just as difficult? Or does it play more like a traditional shmup?

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I'd say it's more difficult than Ikaruga. It has a similar chaining system where you have to kill enemies of the same color. Your weapons upgrade as you destroy more enemies with them and score higher and if you don't chain properly, your weapons end up being underpowered and the game becomes quite difficult.
The saturn version had a mode where your weapon levels would be saved after each play through, so they would be powered up on subsequent plays. It makes the game much easier and allows you to ignore enemy chaining so hopefully they'll include a similar option in the XBLA release.

I'd recommend playing it for survival. Thats how I play most of my Shmups and RSG is just awesome played that way

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
It's actually more difficult, and quite a bit longer. Acid King hit the nail on the head, really

Hi im new here
but first time i saw this site was maybe 10 years ago, looking for some info about Raystorm ( my nick ) when i saw the 13 ships mode.
its a gr8 site
now i want to chat and discuss about shtmups.....
well im playing Radiant SilverGun in Saturn emulatr...2 weeks ago i finished Ikaruga, a gr8 game, excelent graphics, very fun stages, lots of bullets and lasers, not an easy game...
and some days ago i was playing Radiant Silvergun, i can say Radiant Silvergun in my opinion is better, the bosses are better, the many weapons u have, the battles, ....the gameplay...
both are good, but i think Radiant is little better.
i suposse xbox version is the same as saturn...
saludos
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
All current evidence points towards RSG on XBLA being another hack-job like the Ikaruga port, where the elements of the game are repositioned to the point that it's almost an entirely different game and needs a separate hi-score board. Same thing happened to Deathsmiles US when they took out the slowdown.
Also it's completely fugly with obnoxious amounts of bloom. Hope they let you turn it off. Doesn't seem like Treasure are really giving a toss about this port, they aren't doing it of their own will anyway.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Treasure could release a totally different game and most ppl wouldnt notice since most ppl havnt played the original.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Does anyone know what month of 2011 Radiant Silvergun will be released on Xbox Live Arcade?
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
True, and I have to admit this applied to me with Deathsmiles US. The main issue at hand is that people won't be able to use the XBLA port to compare their scores with arcade/Saturn players.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:Treasure could release a totally different game and most ppl wouldnt notice since most ppl havnt played the original.

The display seems to have been widened, redone graphics, likely development outsourcing like Ikaruga XBLA, Treasure don't care.
Not that it would be a total calamity or anything, I'll still buy and enjoy the port (considering my only other option for RSG is MAME), but it's an annoyance and inconvenience.

No, it doesn't.Estebang wrote:The display seems to have been widened
Again, no. Not from what's been shown so far. The same graphics, with the textures slightly touched-up and displaying at a higher res. That's hardly "redone".redone graphics
And that's a guess.likely development outsourcing like Ikaruga XBLA, Treasure don't care.
Not exactly evidence, is it?

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I was under the impression that this port had been put on hold or canceled. I think it was so that they could finish Sin and Punishment 2 for the wii? Anyhow, where is there any information that the game actually IS coming out on Xbox Live? I would assume that this would be NEW/RECENT information, since this is an active and recent thread.
Personally, I had hoped that it wouldn't come out, as being an owner of the original arcade board, I like the exclusivity. The fact that you can't simply burn Saturn backups and that the emulation on the PC had not been "right" also helped to make this a VERY exclusive title. In my personal opinion, this game IS better than all other shooters, even those by Cave...

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Gah, do I have to post this everywhere?
If you're trying to run RSG in MAME, use 0.128. Earlier versions are glitchy, later versions are painfully slow. Runs full speed [most of the time, sometimes the frameskip kicks in to about 5, especially in the later stages] on my cheapy 2.17GHz laptop.
Mostly without glitches, but IIRC, there's one very noticable glitch [display related, doesn't affect the game] late in the game.
Hell, it's faster than most Saturn emulators for me [although, you don't get Saturn Mode in MAME, which is a hell of a lot nicer than having to chain, trying to survive is hard enough
].
And I really need a 360, there's a lot more stuff I want to play for it than there is on my Wii...

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

After doing some searching, I found THIS article to be very infomative regarding this release:

They discuss the release with the President of Treasure, along with other future plans...

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
There already is an extensive thread dedicated to the XBLA port. The reason this thread wasn't locked/merged into it was because the original question was more about whether or not the OP would enjoy the game.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
By the way how messy is the Ikaruga port for XBLA??? Haven't tried it since I play the DC version.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
There's problems with the laser locking on to enemies (Full chains on stage 4 are impossible), the slowdown is removed and a few of the enemies are different. DC is the most authentic version.Phellan Wolf wrote:By the way how messy is the Ikaruga port for XBLA??? Haven't tried it since I play the DC version.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
So cave isnt the first to take the slowdown out? And we have Ikaruga to blame for it? I dont know weather to feel sad to find out another western localisation has been butchered or happy because i get to rant on IkarugaAcid King wrote:the slowdown is removed and a few of the enemies are different.

Is taking slowdown out of western localisations a common thing then? No wonder nobody knows what slowdown is
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Yes, obviously Ikaruga is the root of all evil.
But seriously, when it comes to slowdown I thought it occured only during boss explosions and while bullet eating Tageri on Hard.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
You know, most casual gamers tend to think that slowdowns ares due to lazy developpers, just imagine what the mainstream would have thought if they'd release Ikaruga with the real slowdowns, jesus I wouldn't be in Treasures shoes.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:So cave isnt the first to take the slowdown out? Now I wonder wether Treasure would patch Ikaruga after RS release just to solve chaining and ennemies issues.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Wait, Ikaruga GC isn't a perfect port either?

Hmmm....Shelcoof wrote:I'd recommend playing it for survival. Thats how I play most of my Shmups and RSG is just awesome played that way
Survival is fine, but....
If you play RSG just for survival the game gets harder and harder until it becomes virtually impossible to beat later bosses.
You HAVE to chain and power-up as perfectly as you during the first stages if you want to stand a chance at winning in the long run.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
As far as I know, its the same as the DC port only it removes most of the in-game text.Estebang wrote:Wait, Ikaruga GC isn't a perfect port either?
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Wasn't the slowdown removed in the GC port too? I recall reading that somewhere.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Yep, no slowdown in the GC port either, regardless of region, it's not a "localisation" issue. Same with XBLA Ikaruga, the removal of slowdown in that version has nothing to do with localisation either, since the slowdown is removed in all territories it was released in.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I thought there was a wait option in the XBLA port? Am i remembering something else?bcass wrote:Yep, no slowdown in the GC port either, regardless of region, it's not a "localisation" issue. Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
It's not a localization thing with Ikaruga, but a platform difference. I think the difference is that Western reviewers see any slowdown as a problem, whereas Japanese reviewers may not.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:

The place I noticed it most was at the start of 2-2 where the enemies circle into the middle of the screen. If you chain that part properly, the game hiccups briefly when the enemies are killed and suicide bullets are released.Ebbo wrote: But seriously, when it comes to slowdown I thought it occured only during boss explosions and while bullet eating Tageri on Hard.
