COMPILE back in the game?
COMPILE back in the game?
Turns out the successor company COMPILE-Hearts have gotten the rights their old games.

Re: COMPILE back in the game?
Milestone is everything good about shooters that Compile once was. They already got back in the game after leaving once they finished Zanac X Zanac.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

if I had to judge that by playing Radirgy and Chaos Field I'd say you were nuts.MathU wrote:Milestone is everything good about shooters that Compile once was. They already got back in the game after leaving once they finished Zanac X Zanac.
I have yet to play Illmatic and Radirgy Noir, so I'll let it slide.

Milestone games are so much different from Compile's it bugs me that one company appeared out of the ashes from the other.

Re: COMPILE back in the game?
I'd love to see new shooters in the Compile style. Besides Moo, does Compile Hearts have any of the old staff? Some went to Milestone but those games are quite different from Compile.
I'm happy to see them get the licenses back.

Hmm its certanly intresting times. ideally i would like to see some new AAA grade shooters that arnt bullet hell like Cave and Milestone but something thats a like classic 16bit era compile shmup but modernised for todays shmuppers IE a smaller death penalty and no speed powerups. (The speed up mechanic has got to be my most hated aspect in shooters)

Re: COMPILE back in the game?
compile hearts are just compile as in their name.
As much as Atari = Atari.
owning ip under a cetain name doesn't make u like the original.
That said... I'd love to see a Zanac resurrection... but more difficult than Neo.
and physical release please.................

The world definatly needs another Zanac, or a Guardian Legend 2(Gardic III, Super Gardic 3, Super Guardian Legend, The Guardian Returns, anyone of those will do)

I would LOVE to see another game like Zanac.
Google Translate tells me that Unlimited Mode "is for people who like festivals."
Re: COMPILE back in the game?
I'm not really moved by the news at all as Compile Hearts make very mediocre games as it is. Agarest, Cross Edge and Neptune are good examples.

Re: COMPILE back in the game?
I haven't played a shmup by ANY other company that would quite resemble a Compile shmup. Tyrian tried, but was so broken a game it wasn't even funny. Pretty cool thing about their shumps is that they don't feel like coin-op games diluted for home platforms. They don't want to be coin-op shmups so to speak and I respect that.
Moreover, in their shmups Fun Weapons™ are fun. The only game as rich in Fun Weapons™ as Zanacs seems to be Sonic Wings Special. Shikigami no Shiro II would be up there if it didn't feel like a shmup played underwater.

I don't recall Compile shmups having any speed-ups. Speed adjustable by a switch seems more typical of 16-bit console shmups. Death penalty isn't much of a problem either if you play their games right (earn many extends and, you know, enjoy the game).TrevHead (TVR) wrote:Hmm its certanly intresting times. ideally i would like to see some new AAA grade shooters that arnt bullet hell like Cave and Milestone but something thats a like classic 16bit era compile shmup but modernised for todays shmuppers IE a smaller death penalty and no speed powerups. Some former Compile employees used to work for Raizing. Then again, while certain Compile traits can be found in Raizing shmups, the latter are coin-op games to the bone.Kollision wrote:Milestone games are so much different from Compile's it bugs me that one company appeared out of the ashes from the other.

The Guardian Legend remake? 30 frames per second? Quick Time Events? Some western studio doing the job? Mmmm... tasty.

Not shmup related, but here's hoping they get Puyopuyo back.

Re: COMPILE back in the game?
They'd presumably have to buy that one back from Sega instead of whoever owned their other old licenses...not sure the former is particularly eager to let it go (then again, it's Sega, so who knows).Reverie Planetarian wrote:Not shmup related, but here's hoping they get Puyopuyo back.
In any event, I honestly doubt that any new shooters will ever come of this...if anything there might be some ill-conceived offshoots of the licenses which will quickly be denounced as blasphemy (I have recurring nightmares of an Ellinor dating sim...). About the best I'd hope for are some mostly-harmless downloadable cameos in Neptune.
Re: COMPILE back in the game?
I'm afraid I'm in the skeptic boat on this one. They're buying the properties, but they don't (as far as I know) have any of the staff, and that's what made the Compile games great.

Just see, Seibu -> Moss. I'm not expecting anything...
The only staff they share are probably upper-management guys and secretaries...
As game development is a team effort, you need the original team, to create games on the same level.

Granted, I've barely played it.Wenchang wrote:What about the first Mahou Daisakusen game?
Come to think of it, mayhap Eight Forces was inspired by Compile shmups. Who knows what they were thinking (or taking)?
The thing is, their ways of making shooty games deserve to be reintroduced. I always thought about them as forerunners of "trippy" shooters (Rez and whatnot), more likely to entertain the masses than Radiant Silvergun, which appears to be the very definition of "not everyone's cup of tea". Zanac X Zanac popped up in the Japanese store around the time Radiant Silvergun XBLA got announced, but I don't see western press demanding Zanac X Zanac for the rest of the world, which is wrong. So maybe, just maybe a collection of Compile oldies along the lines of Gradius Collection?BulletMagnet wrote:In any event, I honestly doubt that any new shooters will ever come of this...if anything there might be some ill-conceived offshoots of the licenses which will quickly be denounced as blasphemy (I have recurring nightmares of an Ellinor dating sim...). Re: COMPILE back in the game?
Super Laydock is right, compile heart is unfortunately compile in name only. i don't think any of the main developers behind most of the compile greats are still making games. iirc "moo" niitani is retired, i don't know what happened to "jemini" hirono or "janus" teramoto but afaik none of them have worked on any shooters since zanac neo. when i think of compile those are the people i think of, so to me compile has been dead for a long time. that said i'd still like to see someone try and pick up the torch where they left off and make a shooter true to compile's trademark style, but even after hearing of this news i'm still not going to be getting my hopes up..

Facepalm, yea your right i was thinking of fire shark which is Toaplan duh.Obiwanshinobi wrote:I don't recall Compile shmups having any speed-ups.
Although most likley the only games to come from Compile Heart will probably be mobile phone games. Personally i would love to see a new Guardian Legend, if the wii can get a new Blaster Master why can someone make a new Guardian Legend god dammit!
Due to that kirby puyopuyo game, I wonder if Sega's ownership of the Puyopoyo license is simlar to the wonderboy license, in that Sega own only the wonderboy trademark/ charcter allowing hudson to release clones on other consoles.
