mhn... maybe you should then try games that are totally similar to warblade i.e. other gallery shooters:

akkanbeder, cosmo gang, majestic twelve, space bomber, galaga arrangement & space invaders x (really easy!) come to mind...

Never have managed to get that to work right, and their website is currently a complete mess. Download link doesn't work right in Firefox and there's no support link other than e-mail. And the problem with GGPO is the non-existent game support.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Go for the classic/retro:

1943, Gekirindan, Raiden, Raiden II, Twin Cobra, Varth (has a reduced hitbox). All of those use classic non-manic style enemy bullet patterns early on and ramp up to faster/harder patterns gradually but none of the patterns totally floods the screen with bullets.

Playing on Easy results in less or slower bullets but does NOT do a Raiden III or Strikers 1945 type of change to the gameplay making non-shootable shots become shootable shots in the easier levels, as far as I can tell.

Gunbird 2 is crazy hard, of course. BUT, when my older daughter was young, I put the game on an easy setting (there are various options) and we had great fun with it.

If you're not tinkering with difficulty options, then the PS1 is the place for easy shooters like Harmful Park, Zanac Neo, Gaiaseed, Gatchaman: The Shooting, Cotton 100%...

I think you have to use IE.

It's a mess, I agree, and for some reason their "updates" seem to make it worse. Still... I've played shmups and fighting games on it quite a few times with very few, if any, problems.

I think it was already mentioned, but Under Defeat is pretty easygoing if you dial down the difficulty, it's got an aesthetic and imagery that non-shmup fans would be comfortable with, and there's no weird scoring shit to confuse people. Well, there is, but it still involves nothing more than the shooting of stuff.

One more thing about Raiden III - the PC version allows you to map your bombs onto another player's controller. This way they can use your bombs as well as theirs. You end up bombless this way, but things like that make it all the more exciting.

The way out is cut off

I second Raiden III: reasonably difficult and with a well made 2 players mode.
