Just thought i would maybe give people a helping hand if they are trying to decide weather to bother getting one or not....
YOU REALLY SHOULD!!!!
I am so happy that i got one of these, i have most of the shooters for the system already (bought them before i got the system!!!) and i am sure they are going to keep me busy for a long time!!!! I can't afford the crazy prices for cave pcb's and this is the next best thing!!!!
Lots more great shooters in the pipeline as well... Bring em' ON!!!!!!!!
Ketsui..... Never has constant death been so much fun!!!!
I dont give a fuck if every shooter ever comes out on 360 the fact is investing in a piece of shit hardware that WILL die in a relatively short period of time is never worth it .

Oh cool you missed the humour .
also ive had 3 dreamcasts all work , 2 ps2s both work . No one can argue the failure rate of 360,s i guess if playing the latest is important to you go for it , imo its not worth it its not like any of the shmups on 360 surpass whats freely available on pc anyway .
I just received mine yesterday, along with Ketsui. I should have DOJ this week. I already am super happy I bought it, based on the strength of Ketsui alone. DOJ and DFK will hopefully cement that happiness, and I am super stoked for Virtual On Force in December also.
Irresponsible on my part to have spent so much money, but I think it was worth it, at least for now with my one game.

I've had my launch J360 for years with no problems. It's worth the risk if you like (love) Cave games.
@Thjodbjorn - Don't forget to pick up Deathsmiles Platinum, it's well worth it.
Thjodbjorn wrote:I already have the US release of DS, as well as Mushi Futari and Galuda 2 both for my US 360.
does DS Platinum differ enough (besides some slowdown, that I'm not good enough yet to care about/impact my game) to warrant a purchase?
If you don't care about slowdown or playing for score then maybe not - but you would probably be able to play for score and progress a bit easier, and therefore enjoy it more. Triggering gold crowns is what the game is all about, and when you can do this it transforms the way you play it - it's very rewarding, and completely ridiculous that Cave removed the slowdown... but that's for another thread.
Edit: I'd say that because you've gone to the trouble of buying a J360, then yes it's worth it considering how cheap the platinum edition is. Otherwise you're basically playing a broken version of the game.

You do know that the failure rate went down drastically once the new motherboards were put in, like in 2008? You never hear of widespread problems anymore, buying a new 360 slim is pretty safe.
I'm getting a 360 soon but I don't know if I should get a Japanese unit or a European one with a chip.
If I were to get the Japanese version, what is the compatibility rate with western releases? There are some games that I think I'd like to play the english language version of. And, would it still be possible to purchase games via XBLA from Europe? Are the XBLA games region free and is the entire catalog availiable world-wide? I need Seisou Kouki Strania.

There's a subtle difference between a faulty laser unit (which can be sometimes easily restored by cleaning the lens and regreasing the slides) and a console rotting from overheating on the PCB level. Of course it's all about games you'll manage to play on your console before it goes bell up. You won't be needing it for all the eternity anyway.
By the way, silm PS2s (with external power supply units, just to be on the safe side) are actually quite commendable on the durability front.

I bought a 2nd hand J360 (w/ Benq Drive) from Sofmap in Osaka while i was there last year and it hasn't failed on me at all. I did intend on modding it but i probably wont as it will be expensive to get one sent from Japan. Only games im missing is Shikigami No Shiro 3, Otomedius and Ketsui....although im not sure if i want Ketsui or not...
Man, I had luck and just got a 250GB new xbox 360 for about $ 547,00 (dirty cheap) in my country. oddly I had all cave 360 games, but had not the consele (because is hard bring one to my country).

whaaa..?
but you ordered one from me....?
It's sitting next to me now ready to ship out....
edit: NM... just got PM.
so... Anyone wanna buy a new still-in-the-box 4gb JAP 360?
It's just a matter of biting the bullet I'm afraid. I'm in Australia and the dollar is at a record high so I splashed on the J360 (new slimline), ESPy, Futari and Ketsui. The ports are absolutely fantastic, and the wealth of options, particularly concerning the screen display, is staggering, and almost seem optimised for plasmas with a timer setting that changes the background image. If your usedto the bare bones PS2 ports, this is amazing. DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY ONE OF THESE MACHINES.
