MAME - DoDonPachi (Service Mode Not Working)

I've been trying for at least a fucking hour now.. I'm using SDLMAME for OSX, latest build of MAME 0.140.
Everything else works, and I can get to the service modes in other Cave games but not DoDonPachi. I've tried remapping the keys and all kinds of shit. It resets, and the Service button for coins works but the Service Mode stuff just won't work.

Any ideas?

Probably a dumb question, but what exactly are you pressing? I'm assuming you're holding down F2... if not do that. Very importantly, it only works after the legal stuff has finished scrolling.

Yeah, I was pressing F2 after the legal stuff faded out. I tried 1, 2, 3 seconds after it.
