I've had one crash in the two weeks of playing, but that could have been me running things in the background.

The crash took place when I was just walking around, not in combat, etc.

I've played this for awhile. It's... okay I guess. The bullet patterns seem random, and the only time I'd die would be when the random bullets get me trapped because they all home. It has nice graphics though and is A LOT more fun when you play levels in a team. Also, there are a lot of Touhou fans there... I love Touhou, but I wouldn't name my character after Remilia Scaret or anything...

I'm thinking about giving this a try. Does anyone know if it'll work well with the xbox360 controller, or do i have to do the whole xpadder deal?

It should work okay, I run a PS2-->PS3 Inpin adapter for my Hori Real Arcade Pro 2 stick. However you need to plug in the pad before you run Valkyrie Sky or else it won't detect it. You can map extra buttons in the ingame options. Lemme know if you are having any trouble...

The co-op/team play is really awesome and fun, but it is also is a real fun challenge to see if you can beat a whole run by yourself.

Let's get a guild going!

If we were to make a guild, then I guess I should reinstall the game back on my compy.
Also, any ideas for a name?

Played a bit with Zetzumarshen last night -- it's moderately enjoyable and probably gets better with time, like any MMO. The stages are absolutely made to be played with a party. If the bosses are any indication, the later levels/worlds might get a little hectic. There are a few too many MMO trappings, though -- horrid UI, meh presentation, go here & talk to this guy for quest and come back once you've grinded for 20 useless maguffins and 10 really useless maguffins -- but there are some concepts that could be carried into another MMO system.

VS seems like it was created to address several common complaints from those outside the sphere of shmuppery -- that is, casual action gamers and/or people not signed up here. I can't tell whether they've succeeded (going to guess not quite) because I haven't played enough. But anyway, these people usually complain that

1) STGs are too short. VS makes you replay stages to get the junk you're hunting for and to potentially find rare items, so there's a mild incentive to keep playing.
2) There's not enough variety. Granted, the stages I've seen so far are pretty bland/boring, but that's expected in most MMOs. I've seen some vids with some neat eye candy, and that's enough to keep some people interested. An ideal system could take advantage of vert and hori orientations, gimmicky score systems and a more modern look/feel overall. The stages in VS just aren't as exciting as, say, Mars Matrix or Mushihime or Crimzon Clover. And as a gameplay cornerstone, wedged between going back and forth for quests and buying/selling junk, stages really need to pop.
3) STGs are too easy (the credit-feeders). Again, I'm too much of a nub to make a genuine call here, but maybe the difficulty will ramp up as I spend time with it. All you level 10+ players: how has the difficulty changed compared to the lower levels?

The repetitive nature of piloting a ship/character and bringing down enemies lends itself quite well to leveling up, equipping/outfitting said ship/character, and hunting baddies for stuff. I'd really like to see a title similar to this with a greater emphasis on the actual shooting.

I have gotten into area level 13-16 myself, and the end stage boss will chase and eventually point blank you. I don't know how to dodge this. And they are hard as rock, a normal mage attack is equivalent of one or two pixels off from their bar. Stage is still mild.

Can't be bothered to grind, I want to see how far this underleveled character can push without equipment, level, or any stats stuffs.

When you're level 10+, you only get 3 revival coins a day (vs. 30), so you cant credit feed (unless you buy tokens from the online store, something like a dollar a coin)

Stages are still easy as hell later on (may be because im a fighter, so i may change classes). The only real difficulty (or annoyance) is when some bosses get close and point blank you. Multiplayer is alot of fun since it gets really hectic on screen, and the fighter bullet canceling can't help all the time (alot of enemies come from the bottom of the screen)

The stamina system is really annoying. You use up stamina for each stage you attempt, and you have to regain that stamina either by fishing, eating or playing music thus making it harder to cycle through stages later on. Fishing/cooking/playing music are all really boring :/

Haven't been able to duel yet, since you have to be at least lvl 20 to do so (currently im lvl 12)

It's an entertaining game overall. I enjoy fiddling around with different skill builds and seeing how they can influence my gameplay. For a free game its a good deal.

A random video I found of later level gameplay (credit feed):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh8KlDft8k0
And there are even harder bosses than that. The difficulty increases slowly, and it looks to be scaled for someone who has never played a shmup before. If you're a veteran shmupper, you'll probably find yourself ahead of where your level would indicate.

Who can start a guild?

Oh, it definitely gets more difficult. I really enjoy playing the later levels and the close calls/dodging bullets are pretty fun. The bosses in the later levels get really hectic and there are some great bullet patterns. I also love the music, really gets my blood pumping.

The game really shines playing with a group. Shmup based combat makes the grind very tolerable, fun even. I love getting good equipment and the skill trees really add a neat facet to the shmup genre.

See you ingame!

I didn't get around to re-installing it over the weekend. I'll have to try tomarrow. I think my name was something like ConnanMorika. Level 13 (I think) wizard.

Apparently to make a guild, you have to have 300 "community" points. These points are accrued when you play in a party/group. I only have like 60 CP :/
in case someone needed some info on references, this site is useful (although not entirely complete) http://valkyriesky.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyrie_Sky_Wiki

I've played with Dimahoo3 today. I have around 213 CP. I'll try to get some more and start up a guild if no one else does. The name "SHMUP Forum" doesn't sound like a very attractive guild name. Maybe something like "Team SHMUP" or something more interesting would be better. There is a 16 character limit on a gild name, so there is a small limitation.

good games btw. definitely alot more fun with more people. Although im horrible with names, the ones that come to mind are "SHMUP Syndicate" or replace syndicate with any of its synonyms.

I'll be online in the evenings (pacific standard time), and just post a message here to coordinate with other VS players of when you'll be online.
