Im not in to that idea really. It seems like a really bad cash in on my part even if there is a premium for charity. Point me in the direction of a collection plate and i will donate a couple of my sales towards it though.dcharlie wrote:How about a Lordstar commissioned t-shirt , complete with one of Robotrons quotes?
Sell it at usual Lordstar price + premium - with the extra going to the charity?
(Of course, that's putting a lot onto Lordstar's plate and i'm sure people are busy etc etc. Just a though.)

Re: R.I.P. ROBOTRON
Quick question for anyone interested in commenting: in case you hadn't seen this thread, I'm currently finishing up a shmup-related article for racketboy.com, and was considering putting a quick dedication from this forum to ROBOTRON's memory at the end. Do you guys think it would be appropriate, or should I leave it out?
Re: R.I.P. ROBOTRON
Put it in. He's played shmups since the late 70.s
I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
Re: R.I.P. ROBOTRON
Hi, you guys on here don't know me, but I'm part of another forum that ROBOTRON was also a huge influence on. We were also devastated by this news and are still grieving over such a huge loss to our community.
We've made a page dedicated to him on Facebook and we'd appreciate it if all of you joined it in honor of him. The link to the page is:

Thanks, and once again R.I.P. to a good man and friend.

How about we get the ball rolling on the collection? I think before we start we need to make sure this is going to end up in the right place - which is obviously a bit trickier than it sounds in terms of finding his illness (the other alternative is that we donate to one of the kids gaming related charities), and again - if we want to do it in his name, should we contact his family?

Sorry to hear. There's been a lot of deaths lately. Robotron was definitely one of the most memorable voices on shmups.system11; very surreal and sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his friends and family.

I think he'd chuckle and wonder why he'd be getting so much attention focused on him, but I also think it's only right to honor a fallen comrade.BulletMagnet wrote:Quick question for anyone interested in commenting: in case you hadn't seen this thread, I'm currently finishing up a shmup-related article for racketboy.com, and was considering putting a quick dedication from this forum to ROBOTRON's memory at the end. Also on the FB page, it was definitely an industrial accident that cost him his leg, not diabetes.

Although I'm only sporadically active on the forum, I felt compelled to pay my respects. From all the comments already posted, it paints a clear picture of the kind of person Robotron was online and off. He had a passion for games, life and shared it with strangers and friends alike.
He's a testament and inspiration to how we should treat one another, and the positive affect one person can have in many peoples lives.
Your engrish posts in the introduction threads were....out of this world! Rest in peace mate.

RIP Robotron.
I didn't know him other from his posts in the forum, but as it has been said, he was always friendly and nice with people, and it seems he had lots of friends outside this forum.
Surely he will be missed.

Only been here for a little bit and also got an engrish welcome from ROBOTRON.
It's not nice when things like this happen; I'm a sensitive person and It's really nice to see so many people giving their condolences.
So if you're reading this from up in the unknown mate, make sure you greet any newcomers there with some engrish!

I think one of the most interesting things about this thread is seeing just how many gaming forums Robo has been active on over the years. I met him through shoryuken, but he's been on here, atariage, digitpress, the now-defunct Michigan Gamers and fierce-slash pages, 1up, neo-geo, snk-capcom, tnl... the man seemed to know gaming sites better than I did!

That's what I was afraid of. I remember all this because people would make requests from him and some of the best avatars were from his work. Not to mention he was really cool with everyone before I left. It's a shame I'll never get to chat with him again.ubersaurus wrote:If it's the next level boards you're talking about, that would be the guy. I'd recognize those wacky forum avatars anywhere!

Re: R.I.P. ROBOTRON
Hey Everyone,
I just got back from Robotron's funeral. Needless to say, a lot of people were saddened by the event - but it's glad to see that the legacy of such a man REALLY affected a lot of people. I've attended my own share of funerals, but I've never seen so many people there to pay their respects to one person, young and old. It almost looks as if they ran out of obituaries because some of the people who came in late were asking for them. The spares that they had weren't as good as the copy that I received. Additional chairs were needed due to the vast amount of people who attended. The Michigan Gamers came out in full force as there were easily 20 of us there to attend. Ubersaurus was also there, who I haven't seen in quite some time. They also briefly mentioned his video game passion, and his vast collection of imported games.
I think what hit hard the most was when the closing segment ended, they sang a song, and then all of the memories came to pass from what I knew of him: About how he trusted me to use his car to go to Chicago...about when I came to his house and looked at his collection of action figures spreaded entirely across his upstairs room, the Friday Night Gaming sessions, eating Happy's Pizza, giving him Christmas Gifts, celebrating when Verlander threw his no-hitter...it then hit me like a ton of bricks. Kinn is really gone
I miss him so much...! After the song, the funeral segment ended, as it was under the request of the family not to go any further than that (ie. no burial, no open casket funeral, etc) which I can certainly respect.
It was then where a lot of the gamers met and played catchup and sharing our memories of our old arcade hangout spot (Wizzards), and talked of Robotron, and made new memories. I haven't laughed so hard in a very long time, and there were a lot of people I haven't seen in years. The dinner was AWESOME. One of Robo's relatives came to our dinner and thanked us for all of the hospitality we provided to him over the years. He really appreciated all of the laughs, tips, and everything else that came along with it. That should certainly include this forum...because as everyone knows, he was heavily into shooters and such. So I think I can speak for Kinn by saying thanks for all of your support
I think I'll play a game of Gradius Rebirth in his honor. Take care guys.

The thought was in the right place, I just would not want to profit from something like that. I would just make the shirts and sell them at 100% of the money spent goes to the right place but I already did some stuff earlier in the year for various Africa charities and I just cant do that again so soon. If someone does set up something and they want to give me a buzz at a later date maybe we could all donate something were not using pass them on to one person and they could sell them on ebay with 100% of the cash made after fees going to which ever place best fits.dcharlie wrote:yup the more i thought about it after i posted the more of a bad idea it became. Ahh damn this is kinda painful. I did not know him on the same level as a lot of you guys but I did talk to him on occasion he was always pleasant, witty and just pretty awesome all round.

Oh man. Glad I managed to get an introduction from him before he kicked the bucket. Robotron was far and away the funniest person on this board - I've saved copies of his introductory posts just in case I need to crack a smile. I've never been really good with condolences, but damn. He will be missed.
