Need advice on XRGB 2 +

Post by laurie47 »

Hey.
I just recieved my XRGB2+ from yahoo Japan today.
Im trying to get it all working with my Ps2/HD combo.
Its hooked up to a 19" CTX monitor.

the first problem is that the ps2 menu and my HD loader menu do not display at all.
Once a game starts the picture is OK.

Once I do get a picture it is a bit wobbly. Especially on straight edges like writing. The edge flickers and moves.
Its not so noticeable whilst playing but there are other issues with the moving image.
It ripples all over slightly and on sprites the image seems to fragment into every other line. So only the odd lines are drawn. This only happens during a 2d sprite moving quickly.

Now for some pics.
Here it is with my PS2 looking pretty.

It was in great shape boxed and all the cables are still sealed :)
He has painted the power supply blue though?!?! the same paint can be seen inside the case on the caps and chips.

This looks like some sort of mod. Anyone got any ideas?

And finally this is what the monitor says when Im on the ps2 menu

It displays OK with my cheap VGA box. So im unsure as to whats going on here.
The Ps2 is plugged into the XRGB via a Euro RGB lead into a short converter Euro to Jap.

Thanks guys.

Oh and its all in this minicute :)

Yes, it's known that the XRGB-2+ has issues...best to get an XRGB-2 version instead or even consider upgrading to the XRGB-3.

If it is possible to get a Japanese PSX RGB cable setup, that will work just fine for any XRGB upscan convertor or just swap the wires in an Euro SCART plug to Japanese RGB spec and you're good to go... ^_~

Which issues are related to the + revision?

The adapter I have basically turns a euro scart into a japanese RGB, Its the same as re wiring one.

The female end pinout is Euro and the male Japanese.

Thanks for the reply though!

Your monitor screenshot indicates that you're feeding a 50Hz PAL signal into the XRGB2+. Your cheap VGA box converts the 50Hz to 60Hz, while the XRGB2+ keeps the 50Hz. Unfortunately your monitor can't handle signals below 60Hz like most monitors.

Concerning the wobbliness: you can work on it a little by adjusting something in the menus, but you won't be able to get of rid of it.

What you see on sprite movement is called feathering which is happens due to wrong deinterlacing. You should only see it on 480i based games, not on 240p games. The XRGB2+ isn't a good choice for 480i games anyway, since it drops half the resolution. The HDBox Pro which I wrote about some days might be an alternative for those games.

Ah now thats interesting thanks.

I think I can force my ps2 to display at 60hz only.
It has a matrix infinity.

I thought the 'feathering' was only in some games! now I know why.

I will look into the HDBOX pro.

Thanks again.

Edit.
Yup just needed to force 60Hz for the ps2, thanks for that mate.
Im trying to limit the wibblyness but as yet have had no luck.
