anyone got any comments on these treamcast consoles, wouldn't mind one but know little about the build quality or standard of the lcd screens, they do a 16.9 widescreen one now .any one tried or indeed owns one and wouldn't mind their brains picking about it,it would be greatly appreciated.

Treamcast?
Edit: Ah, Googled it up and this is what he's talking about... http://www.dcemu.co.uk/treamcast.shtml
As far as buying it, I dunno. Not my type of thing, because that tiny LCD screen would hinder my shmupping experience.

Interesting.
I don't think widescreen would be worthwhile, since very few DC games support widescreen. Also, the system itself doesn't appear to be much smaller than a standard DC, so all you're really gaining is the screen, which doesn't sound all that great.
I suppose if you wanted something portable to play DC games while on a trip, it isn't a bad idea. Still, I would rather purchase an LCD screen for the car, which I could hook just about anything I want up to, including a regular DC.

I've seen the treamcast in action and I don't recommend it, although it is significantly quieter than the dreamcast, the lcd screen is quite good, certainly better than a nomad lol.
if you see one cheap pick it up buts its not any better. Really Though the only good thing is the ability to hook in head phones and the kick a$$ joypads a la hori ft style. the pads are good.
It feels very physically solid and some of the parts seem more durable but, ya know the more complex the more likely to break down.
Think they are region free aswell can't remember.

You don't recommend it and continue to describe the plus points.Diabollokus wrote:I've seen the treamcast in action and I don't recommend it, although it is significantly quieter than the dreamcast, the lcd screen is quite good, certainly better than a nomad lol.

I own one and would recommend it if you don't have a DC and/or DC-X. The screen is a bit rubbish - the contrast is iffy to say the least! Apart from that there's not a lot to fault with it. The Saturn style controllers that come with it are really pretty cool and very well suited to SHMUPS, although they don't have VMU slots (I use a standard controller in the 2nd port or you could use a DC Arcade Stick). The machine is much quieter and seems to load faster than a DC as well. And there's no faffing about with region discs!!
It should also come with a VCD kit to play VCDs and a carry case with the logo. I know these are novelties but the VCD kit is fun and the case is pretty handy.
