R.I.P. ROBOTRON

Post by TarkanX »

Rest in Peace. He was posting a few days ago, it seems. I don't know the details, but he's been around for a long time, here. He was also an old-school fighting game player.

You'll be missed.

Quoted from ubersaurus in the MI thread....
ubersaurus wrote:Just passing the word along. Kinn Henderson, known more commonly on here as Robotron, passed away last night. I'm still in shock myself; I just saw him yesterday when we ran some shooters with Dale, and some Vectrex. We were going to help him set up his game room next week.

RIP to a longtime anchor of the Michigan game scene. Known more recently for his Friday Night Gaming sessions in the early 2000s, Kinn was a gamer all the way back into his youth, and was a dominant force in many classic video games, such as Mr. Do, or his namesake game Robotron 2084, where he was a tournament winner back in the day. He worked in arcades, visited arcades, and would even go to shops for the sole purpose of playing games such as Rip Off. Michigan, and the gaming scene in general, has lost a real legend today, and we should all have a moment of remembrance.
I couldn't agree more. He'll definitely be missed.

Very sad to hear this news.

Thinking back to the thread about debt, I'm glad he had that cool car and boat that he got to enjoy!

Condolences to the family members and close friends. They will lose so much more than his entertaining posts.

Yeah that's what I'm asking myself the whole time since I read about it too, I really want to know.
Meanwhile I saved the last few bits of the introduction thread to my HDD...

I never knew ROBOTRON personally but he seemed to be a good guy. ROBOTRON was special: no termination date. I didn't know how long he'd be around. Who would have? Here one minute, gone the next. So long, you'll be gone but not forgotten.

IIRC he's been in poor health for the last few years, don't know the details though.

Unfortunately I never got to meet him; the one Michigan shmupmeet he came to was the one where I got tied up in traffic for a couple hours and decided to just turn back home. :?

What Matsunaga said: A heaven of shmups.

Anyway, I also have to say I'm shocked. I just read one of his trademark intro posts this very week! I really thought this was a joke or something about Acclaim and the license of the game but this... So damn shocking. And right when we actually need more STG fans than anything else.
