I'd be really interested to know what scores players were racking up for Final Soldier, Soldier Blade, Recca, Nexzr et al in the original Hudson Caravans and Naxat Soft Summer Carnivals back in the early 90's. There must be records somewhere so I emailed Hudson and Kaga but never got a reply (how strange! ).
Anyone got any ideas? Where are those scoreboards?!

There's a VHS of Recca with some pretty ridiculous plays on all modes. Don't know if any of them were records, but I'll post them once I get around to digging out my copy.

I have that VHS as well, here's a picture of the spine that shows all the scores. From top to bottom: Normal Mode, Hard Mode, Time Attack and Zanki.
As for where to find actual Summer Carnival scores...I dunno. One would think there's a japanese website out there that covers all these, but it certainly hasn't surfaced in the western world yet.

I actually have captured it just in case the VHS ever breaks, but it's not that terribly exciting. The Normal and Hard scores are negligible anyway and there are better Time Attack videos on Youtube. There aren't all that many videos of Zanki around, though. I'll have to see about putting it up somewhere.
