Comic Jumper

Post by DJ Incompetent »

Funniest single player game I know about.

I've decided it gets a thread.

360. $15

Really? I tried the demo and was quite stunned by how horrible and boring the gameplay was. It even glitched on me once, the short in-game cutscene that starts the "surfing down the building on a Bradbot"-part never triggered so I just walked down the building until I started falling forever. Had to restart the level.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I tried the demo and was disappointed by how tedious the action was. Splosion Man was much better.

Sadly I have to agree. I mean the first bit where it was all hand to hand was awesome, but as soon as the shooting started it became an extremely poor mans Contra: Shattered Soldier. Enemies take way too many shots to kill, aiming and dodging at the same time is damn near impossible without the aim-assist and not much better when it's on. Absolutely uninspired and a complete disappointment after 'Splosionman.

The presentation and plot however are great fun. The humour is spot on and there are so many good little in-jokes for comic and game fans alike. Captain Smiley and Star are well designed and have a wonderful love-hate dynamic. One moment they're buddy-buddy, the next Star's praising the bad guy and Smiley is punching him in the face.

If it was a $10 I'd have no problem suffering through it, but for $15 is a lot to ask for a game that just isn't fun to actually play. Going to be tough to decide if i want to buy it.

I didn't get the demo. 'Never had a programming problem with the real game. Don't trust the demo.

I like Contra, I like Cabal. It switches gears a lot and I kinda like that. Also, learning curve. And turn aim assist off. Fuck dat shit aim yer guns.

You can buy gun damage upgrades. That is important.

C'moooon, let me influence you to buuuuyyyy iiiiiit. It gets bettterrrr after the demoooo.

I grinned when I saw the voice cast for this game.

Pretty much all of them are voice actors from FUNimation. And to make it even better there's a manga level.

If only this wasn't so damn exclusive to 360. I'd buy it if it was on another system.

It's only an assist. You still have to aim it just makes it less of a cunt when dodging.

As for gameplay past the demo, how are the controls for the other comics? DO they mix it up at all?

Controls are decent all around. The standard twin-stick run'n'gun platforming will be the hardest stuff. Then it switches to Cabal, Cabal 16-bit Disney hybrid where you're dodging terrain from the horizon, autoscroll 2D on a vehicle, Battletoads jetbike-ish stuff, twin-stick STG stages, melee-only parts, climbing the big Contra III stage 3 wall, swordfighting, dancing, QTEs...

It's hard to tell sometimes when the game is switching stage types, but it's rollin' infinite lives, so whatever.

Alright then. I May consider it more seriously come payday. I really do enjoy everything but that damn twin stick gameplay so if it mixes it up then it may be fun.
