shmupmeet in Phoenix, AZ

Post by greg »

I'll be leaving for Japan on the 17th, but before then I was thinking about us having another shmup/gaming get-together at my place. I don't have a 360 or a Wii, but I have a super neat and recently completed BBQ in my backyard and I have a bunch of babyback ribs in the freezer. Anyone up for this? This weekend may be short notice, so let's do it next weekend on the 12th or 13th. I know Specineff has to work on Saturdays, so maybe on Sunday afternoon? We haven't gotten together since last December or so.

It turns out that I'm now working at the same company as Giant Squid, who used to be on this forum a few years back. He's expressed interest in a gaming get together. I want to invite this one guy I've met at Fry's Electronics too---he's into classic gaming too.

Let's do it!

RSVP here. Send me a PM for my address and directions.

I got an e-mail from Zebra Airforce. He'll be on an airplane trip on the 13th and cannot come. So so far, it's me, UD, Spec, and teh Lou. Giant Squid is interested, but he'll have to let me know if he will be free that day. Let's see if Jon is coming.

Lou will be bringing his 360. I got to play Death Smiles 2 at his place tonight. It has a real "Nightmare Before Christmas" feel to it. The boss battles start out with the first few notes of "Joy To The World" and the main boss of the game is Satan Claws. Weird stuff. Also has Ketsui, and it plays perfectly. Don't know why Cave botched up DOJ on the 360.

What's stupid about the 360 is not only all these stupid "achievements", but these Death Smiles games don't come with voice acting unless you happened to pre-order the game and it came with the card to unlock it, plus you have to pay to get the black label and such. Games just aren't the way they used to be.

OK, we're on for this Sunday, starting around 11am and lasting until whenever. I have some guys from work who may show up. Meat, fire, and video games. Perfect.

Thanks! Too bad nobody new was able to show up. It was still great that the core of us got together though.

Thanks for having us over again Greg. Was a very good time and my compliments to you on the meat selection and cooking. Excellent game variety as well. Looking forward to the next one wherever it may be.
