I always did think the last boss was pretty awesome simply by not being a huge battleship or brain or whatever. Just a rather small red mech with heavy weaponry.Tar-Palantir wrote:Nexzr intro line (screenshot by screenshot)
How is Nexzr on PC Engine?

The 1st level is cool. It shows some huge battle cruisers materialise in the background & the Music is good.Dylan1CC wrote:Very good, it's a long shooter with very nice graphics (well, not as good as Spriggan or GoT obviously but still very good) and feels like Star Soldier but much more "epic" gameplay. Lots of neat stuff happening in the background like other cruisers fighting, ect. It's much better than Alzadick it's "summer carnival" prequel of sorts which was basically just a score competition of 2 small levels. This is a full game.
But the weapons suck & the graphics in the rest of the levels are very repeatative, (Black) they all take place in space.
Some of the Bosses (especially the last 2) are cool.

I know I'm digging up an old thread here, but why not?
I just picked up Summer Carnival '93: Nexzr Special today and am digging it tons. Good quality, but it's kicking my ass seven different ways. It's kind of sad that I got this now, as I know I won't be able to give it the time that it needs (with Mushihimesama coming next week, I know that's going to pretty much bogart all of my gaming time for the following month or so).
Ah well, it will be a good one to pull back out after I let Mushi kick me around for a while.

Anybody enjoy the SCD of Kiadian-00 shmup?...
I recall that the rare Super CD-Rom2 shmup of Kiadian-00 has having a very cool intro opening with theme song...and lyrics to sing along to (has words displayed on TV monitor to sing to even though it's entirely in Japanese).
Another maniac PC Engine Hu-Card shmup is Data East's Override...that shmup kicks "my ass" on the higher stages.
I like using my Hori PC Fighting Stick when playing shmups on my TG-16 or Turbo Duo consoles. It gives me that cool Japanese short-throw joystick experience that is needed to get "ace" high scores than with, say, a regular Duo D-pad or a NEC Turbo Stick joystick controller. (Ah, that's just one shmupper's prefference anyways.)
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Override is very cool too, it's fair until the very last boss which just rapes you constantly. It feels like the game up to that point is to just conserve extra lives so you can throw at the final boss without worry. I swear, I had 7 lives in stock when I reached him, and triumphed with only one or two left.
Funny how both these games are rare, but inexpensive - I paid ~$30 USD for each.
