July 15th, 2007 - What happened?

Post by rancor »

Not sure why, but I always look at who's online as well as how many people are using the site at one time. Usually there are between 30 and 50 people browsing the forums when I'm on...

...However I always see this:

"Most users ever online was 257 on Sun Jul 15, 2007 12:38 pm"

What happened on that date? Why was there such an influx of people on the site at one time?

I don't know, but I'll bet it was DRAMA-related.

Probably an outbreak of spambots. I seem to recall that was back when there were a bunch of problems with those.

That was the day when Bloodflowers, a single tear running down his cheek, as the blood-red sun slowly set behind him and the wind gently fluttered his iconic, tattered scarf, looked to the sky and whispered, "never again".

The governments of the world were recruiting shmuppers to fly experimental space fighters to fight off an alien invasion.

if it wasnt spambots then maybe it was a big news topic that broke on this forum and other gaming sites wrote about it and linked it. Maybe ikuragu 360?

EDIT
I still prefer Xris' idea where alien invaders had killed off most of the fighter jet pilots so the embattled army turned to the shmups forum for pilots to fly their birds in the planned final attack with other pilots from all around the world as soon as they planted a virus in the mothership

The shmups pilots fought hard but soon found themselves without missiles of which the only pilot with a missile left was the half beer sozzled DJ Incompetent who destroyed the alien battleship (He mistook the ejector lever as a bottle opener but luckly the pilotless jet rammed the alien ship)

Unknown to everyone bullet magnet flew a captured alien fighter to the mothership. Unfortunatly he never escaped and is still there to this day where he gets daily anal probes and is forced to play Xenon 2 all day.
Our current BM is really a bot, but one day the shmups forum pilots will rise up and free their comrade in arms!

Another fun fact: said probes are personally administered by GaijinPunch.
