If ncsx does get this I will order it in a split second.

Perhaps we should set up a bulk order for the land(s) down under. ;)Elixir wrote:Yeah. Shipping is 3000 yen, though.

I am taking Pre-orders for these now. Shipping is $6.00 anywhere. Check the site in the sig for details.

Free delivery to Japan residents. Just find a contact who can airmail you one out. Not sure about JP but printed paper is cheaper to ship than anything else in the UK.austere wrote:Elixir wrote:Yeah. Shipping is 3000 yen, though.

$30 USD for a magazine that retails for 1200 yen? Really?rancor wrote:I am taking Pre-orders for these now. Shipping is $6.00 anywhere. Check the site in the sig for details.
Re: New Japanese shooter mag?
(sigh... theres always one of these in every forum..) Ok - so you're gonna be "that guy".Elixir wrote:$30 USD for a magazine that retails for 1200 yen? Really?
If you can do better, go for it!
First of all, let's get one thing straight: $30.00 USD = 2497 yen (October 4th, 2010). On the Amazon page you're referring to, the price of the book is 1280 yen. - OK -
I know it's hard to believe, but this isn't my main line of work - I have two other jobs that I work at 6 days a week as well as a new baby. Occasionally I attempt to have a social life and participate in some of my other hobbies as well. I dont want to fill 100 orders making 200 yen each. My time is valuable, and true to the spirit of capitalism, I believe that opportunity + initiative = profit. Now, lets take into consideration that you're going to seriously complain to me about an assumed $14.50 profit margin in front of people who spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on PCBs??
For starters, lets subtract $2.00 per order of what you think I pocket - as I villainously twirl my mustache - on packing materials (nothing is cheap in Tokyo) as well as forgo 4% of that original $14.00 as Paypal fees (which is about 60 cents per order).
Go through the list of people that I have sold to thus far and ask how many *bonus* items I include along with what they ordered (lets say I spend an average of $3.00 - which really isn't much). I would say that after that I'm down to about a $9.50 profit margin, which is only 790 yen (remember: it costs yen where I live, not dollars, and the dollar at the moment is total crap), and that is LESS than what an hourly employee at McDonalds makes in my city. (almost by half!) So - is that a low enough profit margin for me to meet your approval? Less than what some makes working 45 minutes at McDonalds? I would love to hear what line of work you're in where you don't expect to get paid, and yet can still support a family.
It just seems odd to me that you're going to complain about a $30 going to a book which is making its journey from Japan to your doorstep in 10 days. An item from another culture that was never intended for you, about about a niche interest that is supported in almost no form in the western hemisphere (excepting the awesome, awesome guys at NG:DEV). THIRTY DOLLARS. Hell, I know you paid more than that for some of those dolls I see you playing with on your website. I see them for sale when I wander around Akihabara, and those things are expensive!
Now - If you've got something constructive to say, by all means please do. Otherwise, I don't see what the point was in the pithy comment you made towards me. Are you insinuating that by pocketing anything more than 790 yen I am a profiteer? Out to hornswaggle (thanks Larry T.) the shmup community? Are you willing to now put up, and offer these books on your own at a lesser price?
It's 12:48am now... I'm really drunk and I gotta go to work tomorrow - so - Good day to you, sir.

No I don't. It was a blog entry explaining why tate'd LCDs are a sacrifice in quality. I stand by it.iluvmonsterz wrote:elixir is notorius for his "pithy" comments...his website has an entire section dedicated to making fun of people who tate lcd monitors.....ignore him.

Since you love plastering my blog everywhere, at least link to the entry, and not a random image:

Thanks.
@rancor: I really don't have a response, despite your post having grown about six different lengths over the last few hours, you're still saying the same thing (only longer). I find charging $30 for a magazine and drawing people in with the $6 shipping to be that not unlike Japanese eBay sellers with their high prices, who sell the same items on Yahoo! Japan for proper prices.
If you want to get technical: Amazon.co.jp's international shipping is expensive yet they also ship books, soundtracks and various other things internationally too and can be bundled together for an additional 300 yen per item. The initial 3000 yen is high, but buying in bulk makes this worthwhile. $6 USD in shipping wouldn't be by EMS so you would be sending a soft cover book internationally without tracking, no?
I'd be interested in this mag but it's likely to be a running series where I'd also want to keep up with it. Hopefully Play-Asia will pick up a subscription for this series much like they do with Famitsu and Arcadia, Arcadia being 1150 at Amazon.jp and 1390 at Play-Asia.
Re: New Japanese shooter mag?
Rancor, 30 dollars is fucking ridiculous for one magazine. That is akin to the price gouging that goes on for PSN/XBLA point cards.
If you are getting these from amazon japan, I know full well you'll get free shipping for a bulk order to your address in Japan.
Hell, and here I thought Retro Gamer issues were expensive after converting dollars into GBP.
So you're charging 30 and have the audacity to tack shipping on?
It would be a far better deal if you sold them for 30 shipped, but that price still makes me balk.
Again, no offense to you, dude. But it's not even worth selling it at that price if you need to make so much money off it. If playasia or any importer posted a price like this, they would get crucified for price gouging. I know you're just one dude, but don't act like you have a company if you can't set a realistic profit margin for yourself. You say you aren't doing this "for fun" and have real life going on, but do you think anyone would like spending 30 dollars of their hard-earned coin for one magazine? Why should we do you any favors?
I called NCS today and they will be stocking these, so just wait it out.

dont try to play it off. you were talking shit. once again nothing constructive to say.....basicly hammering on all those who chose to use lcds. maybe i should post that link in the "show your tated set up" thread.
P.S. i posted the pic hoping that whoever it belonged to would see it and of course find their way to your site.

Too bad I can't read Japanese
I've been known to tate LCD's
Both the games and the magazine are items "from another culture that was never intended for you" so I guess it don't matter anyway

Re: New Japanese shooter mag?
I'm off to work soon, but I just wanted to address this part of your post. Playasia charges exactly double for issues of Famitsu, and then adds $10.40 in shipping.. All for a magazine that only costs 380 yen at newsstands. Oh, the humanity!PsychoGun wrote:If playasia or any importer posted a price like this, they would get crucified for price gouging.
http://www.play-asia.com/Weekly_Famitsu ... -3z5l.html
So, anymore disinformation you would like to feed into the community? When will you begin crucification proceedings?
I think when you grow up and enter the real world, you're going to be shocked - shocked, I say - at the markup of items you use everyday. Please, whatever you do, don't look into the actual cost of making a large cup of your favorite soda in a restaurant.. Your faint heart just might not be able to take it. It's nowhere near the $1.50+ they charge, I'll tell you that much.
Yes - This has been proven by the pre orders I have received already.PsychoGun wrote: but do you think anyone would like spending 30 dollars of their hard-earned coin for one magazine?
..And if you spent even a nano-second browsing my site, you would see that I do the same. It's $6.00 for shipping, no matter how much you order. 1 magazine? $6.00. 5 games, 1 magazine and a soundtrack? $6.00.Elixir wrote: The initial 3000 yen is high, but buying in bulk makes this worthwhile.

Posting a direct link to a pic with misinformation isn't helping your situation either. At least you tricked Skykid into thinking you were right, huh.
The images were used as examples to express my point. I made the entry to point people in the right direction. If you want to play games on a laggy monitor with an incorrect aspect ratio and upscaling issues, be my guest.

Seriously though, who cares how other people play their games? How you play them is all that matters.

Anyway - calm down would you people? rancor can charge what he wants for his effort, and if you don't like it there's no need to dig at the guy. You just don't buy a copy. There's other ways to get it. rancor is just offering an option. He's looking to make some cash out of providing a way for us to get hold of a copy. Fair play. I want a copy - I can't justify the $30 asked considering what it is, but that's my problem - not rancor's, right? If he were the sole vendor of something utterly essential you could point the finger of blame, but he's barely being exploitative or unfair in this instance.
I got flamed on this forum for giving handsome_rakshas a free game once. Apparently I should have charged. It seems you can't win. I guess that's the spice of life.
And as for Elixir, Don't let him rile you. I reckon in reality he's as nice as Skykid is sexy. Actually, nobody is that nice, but the guy's blog has some bloody good bits.
Let's get on a bit shall we you beautiful bastards?
EDIT: Mag looks great by the way. i'd love to write for something like that...

rancor can charge whatever he wants. If you don't like it well too bad. If you think you can do it better than him be my guess and try it. There should be no reason for people to bitch about prices IMO.

Can't read a word of Japanese yet I managed to make a blog on Hatena, yeah? Yes, you are, so-called "done".
