If I get this right you get [current chain length] points for every enemy you shoot and [current chain length]*[some multiplier] for bosses. The thing with normal ships is that you destroy enemies way slower and hence get way less of them. So your scoring for stages is way worse because you lack the nutritious tail end of the chain and have it shorter at pretty much any given time. The loss on bosses is also present, but it should only be linear.

Other explanation:
You only looked at your score for Stage 3 and forgot to add the score for Stage 2 and 1 ;)

That must be it, then. Additionally, it seems as if you get more discomen if you destroy enemies higher up the screen. All this explains why I can almost double my stage 1 score if I play with that damn cat. Well, this sucks.

It's not that you need to be higher up the screen, it's that you kill them faster if you're closer to them. The faster you kill, the more discomen you get from them and the faster new waves appear. Being higher is just a prerequisite to killing faster.

Bah, minimal improvement though reaching stage 3 no miss for the first time (won´t happen so soon again with Uopoko either). Then I broke my chain without noticing and lost my lives stupidly and fast. :?

Jesus. Fuck Stage 4. First time I managed to clear it (on my last life) and I got fairly far into stage 5. I wish savestates worked on my MAME... *sigh*

Though saying that, Stage 4 has one redeeming factor. The stage music is awesome.

Interesting how you can't chain past 999 though.

Argh. I can get 380k on first stage, 1.7 millions from second stage, but I cannot get to stage 4.

This game is a lot of fun, especially after I get into it's rhythm. Can't handle the cat though. Been sticking with my regular ships. Messed up and lost my last extra life right before the Stage 2 boss was defeated, so I didn't have much left for Stage 3. Died around the same spot I always die on stage 3, but this time I finally got onto the scoreboard.
