How come there are only jets from the USA( The harrier is somewhat British too I guess), Instead of the F4 Phantom why was there no MiG 29,JAS 39 Gripen etc
The previous Striker games had aircraft from all over the world.
Strikers 1999 ships
Re: Strikers 1999 ships
Not really but in the previous game we had such variation WW2 aircraft from all countries.clp wrote:is it really that much of an issue?
Also who chooses the F15 over a F14 thats preposterous Psikyo

It's not much of an issue but it is an interesting question.Zeron wrote:How come there are only jets from the USA( The harrier is somewhat British too I guess), Instead of the F4 Phantom why was there no MiG 29,JAS 39 Gripen etc

The Harrier is certainly British but used by the USAF and I always regarded Strikers 1999 as a kind of joke premonition about military airpower in the future with the implication that we'd see a US-based world government...or something
A bit like the joke about I saw a hundred years into the future but I couldn't understand any of it cos it was all in Chinese

Although, very sensibly, it's not usually discussed I guess shmups that use ships based on real hardware can't help but have some kind of political undercurrent.

I thought it was pretty funny seeing the F4 Phantom next to all those modern jets
not that the F4 Phantom is not a beautiful airplane.
Re: Strikers 1999 ships
The F4 Phantom is a beautiful airplane, and was also used by dozens of countries other than the US, including the UK, Greece, Turkey, South Korea, Germany, Japan, Egypt and Israel. The F4 Phantom II is actually still used by a number of these countries, and still current-gen with the updated avionics and computer packages.
The F-18 is in the game, not the F-15, and the F-18 is also used by a number of countries, including Australia, Canada, Finland, Maylasia, Switzerland, and Spain.
The Harrier is British/American as mentioned. The F22 is solely American, as most of the other Western countries cooperated on the F35 JSF instead. The F117 is also American, and not actually a fighter. The X-36 is based on some prototype, though obviously the actual prototype didn't turn into a mech and hadoken the ground.
I agree that it would have been nice to have a MiG mixed in there, but I also agree that it doesn't really matter.

The X-36 represents all of the other countries equally.

Re: Strikers 1999 ships
I was browsing at my local Buy Lots! store one day and they were selling those cool die-cast metal/plastic fightercraft toys in the toy aisle section that reminded me of the cool Psikyo Strikers 1999/Strikers 1945 III PCB. So just for kicks, I ended up buying all the fightercraft that were featured in-game. Would be cool to make a stop-motion flick using them as a tribute to S-1999/S-1945 III indeed.

Re: Strikers 1999 ships
Presumably, the reason why the aircraft selection is what it is is because those aircraft (And their equipment) weren't overrun by the Nanites that had infected other military aircraft. With that in mind, the F-5 is basically there as an attempt to get whatever is available out to fight. The pilot must be brave, as they're essentially on what is presumed to be a suicide mission.
That said, it's weird how the F-15 never appears in the game entirely. Chances are that if it did, it would be h4x though, given the F-15's reputation. I personally would've liked to pilot an F-23. Does anyone know of a game other than Sonic Wings where you can pilot one? (Sorry to derail a bit...)
Of course, that still raises the question of how the U.S. Air Force was the only military organization not completely overrun by nanomachines. Perhaps it's because of their experiences with extraterrestrial equipment in the previous games? (Recall that C.A.N.Y. had a U.S. branch, and the extraterrestrial weapon database F.G.R. stole was American I believe. C.A.N.Y.'s aliens probably had anti-Nanite technology given they fought the 1999 aliens, the U.S. could reverse-engineer it [or simply copy it accidentally when using the technology for new fighters, not knowing about Nanites], but because it's over 50 years old in 1999, only a few aircraft were able to actually repel every Nanite? Maybe?)
