STGT 2010: DANGUN FEVERON thoughts

Post by Aquas »

Meow? Dancing with that fever. Rescuing disco men. NEED DISCO!!! NOOOOOO!!

Never given the main game a serious go but time attack in past STGT was fun. Looking forward to getting tons of disco men and rocking out. If I can't vibe-- I'll probably play some Futari or Xexex.

Awesome. I love this game.

Honestly- I don't expect a ton of people to get high scores on this one unless they dink around with savestates or slow speeds through Mame and whathaveyou. The game is easily one of the tougher games out there to score well in.

Anyways- good luck fellas- curious to see how this one turns out!

Really unlikely people have been turning in fake results dude - some of these guys are just plain awesome. :|

And yes! Dangun couldn't have been a better choice. Not only do I get the PCB out of the closet, but I get to spend some quality time with this one, as I did RF2 (which was the best game yet.) Perfect choice! :)

Mixed feelings here...

+ It's Dangun Fucking Feveron :D
+ I was starting to feel bad about not contributing scores for the team, even though I said I probably wouldn't. I signed up to avoid kicking myself for missing out on a cool game or two (Feveron and Gunbird 2 come to mind).

- Will probably be a busy week at work, might not have as much gaming time as I'd like
- Haven't played the game regularly for years and years (not counting STGT score attack since that's separate from the main game)
- Uo Poko cat is allowed :?: :!:

Maybe you missed the guy who posted the Cyvern replay running at 50% speed or the Mars Matrix screen shot with 8 continues used on the 2p side

I did. That pisses me off. :x

What's the point - there's no cash prize involved. If you actually can't play, get more practice, don't cheat.

That's put me in a bad mood now. :?

yeh but even funnier is after that guy was found with the 20% speed cyvern has continued to post top scores throughout without any proof that he is using a different computer or anything and not one inp since. Im not sure how the mars matrix 2 p credits can make any difference to score though .

After he knew about the issue, his scores dramatically decreased didn't they? that's an indication of an honest score, I think.

He most certainly did not cheat. Why submit an inp if you know you're playing on low speed. It would make much more sense posting a screenshot or avi or nothing (like the vast majority here).

And why cheat in a internet shmup competition with scores that aren't even top-5 or bring your team to top-5. Come on.

Hey man, I'm the guy in the middle here! :o

I only know what people are telling me. Personally I thought based on Kern's comment, it was extremely unlikely anyone would bother to cheat or falsify scores. Shmups scoring is such a competitive pursuit, I believe there's enough pride amongst everyone to be honest.

Back to Dangun Feveron thoughts: This morning I thought the music and announcer voice were pretty bad. I just wanted the guy to shut up because he never stopped. (By the way I adore the announcer voice in Donpachi.) But now that I´ve heard Uopoko it´s just oh my fucking god! They give you this badass ship and want to punish you hard for choosing it. xD

By the end of the week I would have nightmares for sure, but I´ll just turn off the sound and listen to CDs while playing. If I even stay with Uopoko since I´m barely able to control him. Never turned off the sound before in any shmup, not even when it had horrible music like Mars Matrix or Strikers 1945.

Uopoko is a choice and really if you find him so uncontrollable use a normal ship? as the main score addition comes from completing a stage so for most people normal ships and getting further will surely be the way to better personal scores .

Probably... I´ll try him as well as the normal ships a little bit more and then find out.

I actually found back when i started playing this game that using uopoko for a whilst then going back to reg ship with full speed made the reg ship feel just normal and totally controllable so its worth a shot .

The theme and core scoring system are fun, but having to sacrifice pretty much any sense of precision in order to have a shot at scoring well (even moreso than in Raiden Fighters) turns me off quite a bit.

Large amount of score comes from collected discomen. Destroying quickly will give more discomen and more enemies to destroy.

It could be construed as cheating that I generally play MAME games with the sound OFF. In the case of RF2, I can see how its soundtrack adds an extra layer of tension (surely by design). But after a few hours I tend to get sick of hearing just about any of the same music. Come on, you wouldn't even listen to a new album that many times consecutively, especially if it had only 6 short, looping tracks.

Now, Dangun's music is superbly hilarious, and for me fits the action perfectly. As do the announcer's outbursts, which were another nice comedy touch. But, I'll most definitely be playing with sound off rather than listen to any incessant MEOWing. Just have spotify running in the background.

I've been playing DF for the past couple of weeks, and this is exactly my experience.

Plus, you get some forced no-bomb practice (which is admittedly a bit of a mixed blessing, but I've found it helps).

Game is awesome. Cat is fun. If you can't control it, practice more. I might actually post a (shitty) score this week!
