Soul Calibur 4 & The Dark Lord of the Sith... **Spoilers**

Post by ST Dragon »

I was a great fan of the original Soul Blade on the PS-1, have played through Soul Calibur 1 & 2 on the DC & PS-2 and over passed SC3, but I was very surprised when I saw Darth Vader in the 4th game!

This is a very interesting addition to the Soul Calibur characters, but how could a bunch of metal weapon yielding warriors, stand against a light saber that could cut through steel like hot butter?! Even this poor chap (final Boss), seems to have no chance against the iron grip of the Dark Lord of the Sith!

So what are you thoughts about this?

Never the less, I would love to try this! It looks excellent!

You can play as Yoda on the 360 version, by the way.

I have this game and I must admit I hardly play it. Not nearly as fun as SF4.

I really like the character customization aspect. Outside of that though, the game isn't all that great. Fun to mess around with though.

I loved SoulCalibur IV. The character creation is the highlight, and it's easy to fill up the 50 save slots reserved for it. The combat engine is solid and I was pleasantly surprised that Voldo is one of the best characters this time. All of the Star Wars characters are pretty lame, unfortunately. The only half playable one is The Apprentice, but that potato head is so boring to look at. Hilda is the most fun of the new characters, IMO. The only bad thing about SCIV is the shitty, shitty net code. Even on a good connection the lag can render matches unplayable. If you want the game for single player or local versus, definitely buy it. For online, it's only worth bothering to see the custom characters that other people have created. My most memorable experience in the game was having the crap kicked out of me by Gandhi.

So is SC4 worse than SC3? I heard that one actually had some bugs!

Without having tried SC3 & 4, I still think the best is the original SB on the PS-1. Best gameplay, music, story-line but far.

Darth Vader is on 360 as DLC (5 dollars), so I'm guessing it's the same with Yoda on PS3.

How was this irrelevant? There were no mentions of the characters being available in both games before on the forums, even in 2008 when the DLC first came out. I didn't think 2010 was all that old either. Personally, I wouldn't mind hearing more impressions of the game since I heard mixed things, but I'm not interested in the DLC.

Soul Cal V's release is imminent, rendering this game obsolete.

I'm aware of V coming soon, but I disagree that newer fighting games render the previous ones obsolete. Soul Calibur 1 DC is far from obsolete for example.

Solid game, good mechanics, but the single player aspect is lacking. Then again these games aren't really designed with the single player in mind. Personally I love this game, but it's down to personal preference. I bought it on a whim when it came out and have hundreds of hours on the clock now. It plays quite differently to a lot of other fighters, but you get out what you put into it. Netcode is not ideal for high level play, but it isn't a disaster either provided you both have a 5 bar connection.

V will be interesting as the player roster is getting quite a mix up.
