Well I'm looking forward to playasia's absurdly fast mail to new england. I've never understood how they do it, but I swear there is a decent chance I'll have it by friday. The weird part is, for so many other people, play asia is really slow...I don't get it.

For those playing it now, where is Reko's hitbox located? I'd like to know before I get my copy. Thanks in advance for any info.

it would have been awesome if they re-released the OST figure with the game... T_T or maybe a statue of the 2P character?

You can see your hitbox while you're holding down the fire button and moving slowly, so don't worry about pictures. It's actually a little smaller than the game displays... plus, enemy bullets have a small layer of "flash" pixels on them that don't kill you if you touch them (that is to say, all the bullets have hit boxes of their own)... so you can glide through clouds of bullets with ease.

Heh heh, it's even all laid out on a bed...you need some sleazy jazz music playing in the background to complete the effect.

Indeed. I also remember all the posts from way before then when we kept hoping against all hope that it would be ported. It sure was a nice surprise when it was officially announced.

*lucky punks like Jap gamers and UK'ers like bloodflowers and DEL who get to play it whenever they want, grumble* No more hoarding, now we get to play it too. ha! :P

I saw Mushi last night at the local store... it pained me to pass over it (I already have a copy shipping to me in the US from an old pre-order), but I did get to look at the packaging.

If you're drooling over the LE package and wishing you bought it, this should come as good news - the regular case is pretty much identical. Same artwork, pics, text, everything. If you don't like the figure (I don't), don't feel obligated to buy the LE.

woaaagghhh..!! it's mine!!

quick first impressions

must admit in yoko mode, the shimmering graphics annoy me greatly, but tate'd it's just peachy..

the HUGE insect boss is a joy to behold , I haven't gone "woaaarrgghh!" at any 2D graphics since the early 90's....

the gallery has some absolutely gorgeous pencil art.. i'd love to get the art off the disc somehow...

ultra mode is just .... guh...

annoyances so far are the fact that the music RESTARTS after pausing, and a tiny countdown similar to espgaluda would have been nice, just to get prepped.. and the shimmery yoko graphics

oh, and no replays or DVD is poopy...

As far as I can see....it's a damn fine port, I doubt if it would have been any different if ARIKA had done it..

sadly I now have to leave the damn house and get my girlfriend from SFO so no more mushi tonight.... my PS2 will be coming to work with me tomorrow though!!!

That's an odd little bug, but who really pauses a shmup that much anyway? I always blow it coming out of a pause. Glad to hear that Tate lookin' nice too.

Apparently mine has gotten hung up somewhere. UPS says that it missed it's plane out of L.A. so I'll have to just hope I see it sometime tomorrow.

I spent some time with it tonight. I think it's a good port, but I have never played the arcade version. I honestly can't tell the difference between this port and galuda or doj (other than the absence of the superplay DVDs).

I believe any slow down is normal. I actually don't notice too much slow down at all. I am running it on hdloader -- my only means of playing imports, but I don't think that would affect performance.

I think the initial load times are slightly longer than galuda or doj, but once you get into arcade mode there are no load times.

One annoyance is that the autosave doesn't automatically save high scores. You have to go to the menu and do it yourself. I lost all my inital scores, but I am sure they sucked anyway...

Overall, it is quite fun, but I think I still like espgaluda better. Since I have played the hell out of espgaluda, I am ready for something new.

A question about the game mechanics:

What is the bar that appears at the bottom of the screen during boss battles? I assume it is some sort of bonus timer.

The bottom bar is just the boss life bar (same as the top one.)

Mine is out for delivery too. I'm sitting here right now at 7:38 in the morning. I have to be at work at 9:00. I have to go get in the shower in about fifteen minutes and get going, but it's all I can do to not call in sick.

EDIT: 7:48. Just sent an email to my boss telling him that my girlfriend was up all night puking and I have to go now and take her to the doctor. To quote Family Guy, "Now we play the waiting game."
