Guys, watch your tone. Back on topic, please.

back on topic I love garrega but I completely suck at it and don't think I've made it to stage 3(yuck).
It's got a fantastic atmosphear and a general hypnotic tone.
Batrider sweats plain out fun,and I like the flashy graphics too.
Somehow easier than garegga(well I reached stage 3...).
Bakraid can't compete on the graphic style but his scoring make it look like a real ballet to master.
Also more accessible when not playing for score(and I even made the 11M 1st boss milking so it does give me hope).
Overall I think garrega is the more hypnotic, batrider has so many characters(and the team edit) and bakraid is a timing hell.
To conclude:
garrega/batrider for 1st
bakraid probably behind by a few inches.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Thanks to Icarus giving me a tip on Bakraid's special option shot I was able to clear Normal mode tonight, needless to say it instantly qualifies as my favorite once again since I'm happy to finally have a Raizing 1CC.
This thread somewhat reminds me of back some years ago when I made a topic "Top 3 DC shmups", I basically just got flamed a bunch and people moped and cried "what has this forum become..." because sure it a somewhat stupid question. At the time I only owned a couple shmups on the DC and I genuinely wanted to see if there were some that were overwhelmingly popular that I had overlooked...
I guess the point I'm trying to make is: there are always going to be dickheads on any forum, everyone says stupid shit from time to time, don't let it get to you.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Batrider is definitely my favorite of the bunch, with Garegga a very close second.
Garegga has this absolutely incredible atmosphere and overall aesthetic to it, it's definitely the most immersive shooter for me. Stage, ship, and sound design are all top notch, the BGM is probably the best of the three overall.
Batrider also has a fantastic, albeit completely different atmosphere to it. It isn't quite as strong as in Garegga but it's definitely there. The game itself feels much bigger though, there's just so much to do in it and so many ways to play through it.
Bakraid barely feels like a Yagawa game to me, honestly. I have trouble playing it for anything but survival due to its excessively cryptic chain system. Maybe one day I'll sit down and really figure it out, and it'll be the most incredible scoring system ever, but for now it's just not working out for me. Scoring and presentation aside, it's hardly a bad game, I just don't think it's anywhere near the caliber of Garegga or Batrider.
Garegga and Batrider are just on a whole different level from every other shooter in my book. I cut my teeth on DoDonPachi, like I'm sure a lot of people did. The first time I played Batrider I didn't like it at all, it felt weird, I had trouble seeing bullets and wasn't sure if debris or raizing explosions would kill me. I just went back to DDP for a while, eventually came back to Batrider and it felt like a totally different game, I just completely fell in love with it. Not really sure what changed, maybe I was just in a different mood that day or something, but that was when Batrider started to become my favorite shooter.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I am slowly learning how to play these games for score but in all honesty reading the strategy guilds confuses the hell out of me. Playing for survival and basic medal chaining is still crazy fun for me so it'll do for now.
Just crushed Batrider Normal Mode, died only once and only fought some pathetic green mech at the end which I barely had to move to kill. Didn't seem like anything close to as difficult as Bakraid so I guess my earlier assumptions were way off.
My question is, do Normal Modes count as 1CC to most Raizing fans? Seems like advanced course is really the full game wih the true bosses etc. Guess I still have a long way to go which is fine by me.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I personally count Normals as a 1cc, but they certainly don't mean near as much as an Advanced 1cc (of which I still have none). Still it feels a bit better than a 1 loop clear in DDP or something like that, wouldn't you agree?

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I'm embarassed to say that I wouldn't know... I suck at DDP, I'm better at DOJ which doesn't really make sense.Still it feels a bit better than a 1 loop clear in DDP or something like that
I guess I should be proud because I'm using a stock Mayflash which puts me at a serious disadvantage haha, why my 360 stick doesn't work with MacMame is beyond me, but that's another topic.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
(I haven't 1looped DDP either)
And honestly by the last stage I have very little desire to. It was the first STG I got really serious about but I'm pretty much done with it now.

Nah its whatever you get used to using , people have 1cced ddp with keyboards sticks pads guitar hero controllers so i doubt your at any disadvantage.chempop wrote:I'm embarassed to say that I wouldn't know... Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I'd say a DDP clear is markedly tougher than the APB/Bakraid Normal clears. Then again, there might be characteristics that some players will find easier or tougher than others.Deca wrote:I personally count Normals as a 1cc, but they certainly don't mean near as much as an Advanced 1cc (of which I still have none). Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Unless you go for a full-boss no rank control Normal clear, DDP 1-ALL is definitely harder.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
DDP is certainly harder, there's no arguing that. I guess I was just thinking more along the lines of achieving the second loop and not being able to clear it, rather than not getting it at all where you're still given credits and all that. Wouldn't feel as satisfying.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I think there is a 360 driver for the mac you can get. Also, why are you using MacMame, hasn't it been dead for several years? I've found MAME OS X and UberMAME to be better.chempop wrote:I'm embarassed to say that I wouldn't know... Anyway, don't want to derail. Back to Raizing!
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I definitely prefer Bakraid.
Maybe i"ll like batrider more if I leave the emulated system on a while before starting the first game, but it owns me even on stage 1, which not even garagga does.
Raizing has a dynamic starting rank system. Each game started raises it, and each cycle of the attract mode lowers it. Garegga started at the minimum initial rank, so people kept resetting it to clear the initial rank. They fixed that with Batrider, and t starts at MAXIMUM initial rank when powered on.
Bakraid is the only one that actually lets you play for survival, so it has my vote as favorite. Not everyone wants to have to memorize a scoring system and play the game the right way just to win it on one credit at all.
Most raizing games are designed to be played for score, and to kill you if you try to just play for survival. Bakraid turns this on it's end, where it's hardest if you are playing for score.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Check the ST thread for Batrider for an explanation on how to reset the rank... there's an easy way to do that with either the PCB or MAME, and it makes things a LOT more manageable indeed! I used to hate Batrider until I found out about the max rank thing, but it's now my favorite of the three (Garegga isn't far behind, but Bakraid leaves me pretty cold).zaphod wrote:Maybe i"ll like batrider more if I leave the emulated system on a while before starting the first game, but it owns me even on stage 1, which not even garagga does.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Never knew about this dynamic rank start business, I need to read up I think.
MacMame might be dead as you say, but it's what I've always used, no wonder half my Roms don't work huh? I'll try those others and see if there is an improvement, and hopefully my HRAP will work. I appreciate the heads up!

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Was Yagawa also involved with Burai Fighter and Isolated/Max Warrior (Kid programmed shumps)? I know he used to work at Kid, the company that programmed Recca.mjclark wrote:These are all Yagawa games innit? So include Recca, and put it at the top of the listPlasmo wrote:Garegga

If I want to play a Raiden Fighters clone, I play Battle Bakraid.
If I want to play a Battle Bakraid clone, I play Battle Garegga.
If I want to play a Battle Garegga clone, I play Ibara.
If I want to play a Raizing All-Stars game, I play Armed Police Batrider.
And if I want to play a game for score, I avoid all four of them.
Why am I the only one who liked Raizing more after Yagawa left?

I think Souky and Dimahoo are much better than both of the Battle's.

I don't get it. Bakraid is basically Garegga with Batrider-style ship mechanics, dumbed-down plot and enemies (Although Randa is my dream nation - I would live there if it existed), and a couple of nods from Raiden Fighters, is it not?clp wrote:esreveR wrote:

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Garegga is probably the only game I could feel justified killing for (were its existence at stake), though I actually prefer to play Ibara.
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
The strong effect of rank, along with the possibility to manipulate it, as well the scoring systems which are heavily biased toward secrets, and can potentially award a large number of extends, make a lot of the traditional shmup mechanics irrelevant. To me this is disappointing, because without those things, judging these games in traditional terms, I think they would all be great games.
The creation of Garegga was like studying for many years to become a chef, then opening a restaurant, and then using it only as a front to deal drugs.
