Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Yagawa said in a recent interview, that he doesn't care about scoring and the scoring systems of his own games at all. I don't think he has planned any of his games to a degree, where he could've roughly estimated any of the WR scores.
Still, Bakraid is probably the weirdest by far. Doesn't seem intuitive at all (whereas suiciding is imo).

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
You'd be surprised at how intuitive it really is. Chaining via a limited amount of fixed targets in each stage means you have considerably less to memorise than in, say, Daioujou, for example, while giving yourself room for improvisation. I personally think the bomb/suicide chain timer freezing mechanic is inspired as well, as you have to put yourself at risk continually in order to score well. The most challenging parts of the game are actually trying to kill yourself, and knowing the point values for each enemy based on attack type.Plasmo wrote:Yagawa said in a recent interview, that he doesn't care about scoring and the scoring systems of his own games at all. That said, I think the system is a little too extreme for most players here to handle.

Count me in on the "too extreme for me" list, I've read the ST thread a dozen times over and I still can't seem to get anywhere. Having said that I do better in Garegga than the other two. That said, I think the system is a little too extreme for most players here to handle.

Is this the Cave book interview? Is there a translation somewhere? Link?Plasmo wrote:Yagawa said in a recent interview,

Yes, it is. Cave STG Ura loop.
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Yagawa had nothing to do with those gmaes. Yuichi Toyama is the main programmer behind those.chempop wrote:...and Mahou Daisakusen, Dimahoo, and Souky right?!

Ahhh thanks for clearing that up.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Bakraid is definitely my favourite of those three. Batrider is also pretty great.
I've always hated Garegga. I've given it several tries over the years, but I just can't stand it.

Cave noob.
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Fuck Batrider, Ikaruga is the best Cave game by far.
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
At the latest meeting of the Society for Batriderian Philosophy we discussed this issue at length over a bottle of Château Yquem á 1787. We came to the conclusion that Batrider is the best!
Then we consumed huge amounts of jolt-cola and played Mars Matrix on Mame!

so are you saying it will get a console version? not everyone has the room or inclination to own multiple cabs so i got with the "inferior" sonsole ports.moozooh wrote:wutiluvmonsterz wrote:batrider for me, its one of the cave games that may never see a home port

Later on, Raizing programmer Yagawa joined Cave, so that's why some Cave games with him involved are discussed here as well.

thanks dude, thats all that had to be said. instead of an insult. and arcade enthuesists wonder why they get labeled as elitists. when i am out with my friends skating and we see a new kid learning the ropes we dont give him shit and call him a noob we help and offer advice...because we have social skills and we dont boost our own confidence at the expense of others. i just started playing batrider after not paying it much mind..so my knowledge is kinda on the slim side for that game, i appreciate the heads up.

Look at you, taking actual offense at people poking fun on an internet forum. edit: the best part is you implying that people here don't have social skills when you are unable to recognize extremely basic tongue-in-cheek jokes.

sure dude , what ever you say. that was "all in good fun"....if it was he would have offered an explaination as to why he called me a name...common curteosy. do you call someone you dont know a name the first time you talk to them? i dont think so. i like how you make it seem like i am saying everyone "here" are lacking social skills, dont put words in my mouth. trying to turn me into some shmups board hating asshole to unify people to your argument is a fairly transparent tactic.

You absolutely, inarguably implied that if people here had social skills, they would have responded to you differently.iluvmonsterz wrote:sure dude , what ever you say. that was "all in good fun"....if it was he would have offered an explaination as to why he called me a name...common curteosy. do you call someone you dont know a name the first time you talk to them? i dont think so. i like how you make it seem like i am saying everyone "here" are lacking social skills, dont put words in my mouth. trying to turn me into some shmups board hating asshole to unify people to your argument is a fairly transparent tactic.
I love how you immediately got defensive with "its just the one i like and i am far from a cave noob....how old are you? 12? such a silly fuckin term. i didnt say its the best just my favorite..sorry i dont follow the herd." hahahah Sorry I don't follow the herd, you fucking sheeple...

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Give him a break.
On-t: Isn't Battle Bakraid stage 1 the worst of 'em. It's extremely short with nothing interesting going on. You fly above a small forest landscape, and that's it, the boss appears! You would think that it's the midboss or something, given the short stage length. But unfortunately not. The boss design look quite cheap as well, few details and no character. Then, these "wait 5 patterns without shooting- milking" is not that exciting to be honest.
It does not set the mood like stage 1 in Garegga (mostly by it's atmosphere) /Batrider (mostly by it's intensity)
Still, the game is immensely fun once you passed the 1st stage.

i at no point said people HERE...once again dont put words in my mouth.the word "noob" and the word "owned"..used in those contexts make me believe you are indeed 12, and i imagine you play alot of xbox live. so i 'm finished having this conversation. youre just building my argument with every post and your goofy net speak terms.captpain wrote:You absolutely, inarguably implied that if people here had social skills, they would have responded to you differently.iluvmonsterz wrote:sure dude , what ever you say. that was "all in good fun"....if it was he would have offered an explaination as to why he called me a name...common curteosy. do you call someone you dont know a name the first time you talk to them? i dont think so. i like how you make it seem like i am saying everyone "here" are lacking social skills, dont put words in my mouth. trying to turn me into some shmups board hating asshole to unify people to your argument is a fairly transparent tactic.

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I like all three, but I would rank Garegga #1, Bakraid #2, Batrider #3. Garegga has great music, great bosses, and the rank isn't really that hard to deal with once you do some research.
“What did I had done!”

Also note that you're the fucktard who said one of KET's Garegga runs on youtube sucked ass, when he was doing some extremely pro shit. It's rather hard for me to believe that you, of all people, would give anyone shit about knowledge of a Raizing game after something like that. Maybe I'll even link it here ^_~
Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
Yeesh, don't get this locked yet please. This is a topic that I would like to see play out. There are tons of comparisons that can be done between thes games. I've played Garegga, tried Batrider a month ago and want to play the hell out of it some time soon, and only really seen Bakraid recently. There are some seriously good players here, that know allot about these games. So pipe down, I'm trying to pay attention in class. Go Garegga!

Re: Garegga, Batrider, or Bakraid?
I loved Garegga when we did it in a practice week for STGT '08, and I was horribly disappointed when it lost in the voting.
Then in STGT '09, we got to play Garegga and I was happy at first. Then I got busy and also realized how much I had to learn to score well, and I lost all desire to play the game competitively. I decided I'd rather own the game someday and learn it at my leisure instead of spoiling myself watching superplays and reading guides while trying to mimic the techniques of others. That said, I love the game and turn to it frequently when I'm playing around on MAME, but I have not yet taken the time to play it seriously.
I played around with Batrider a bit and thought it was really fun and accessible and had lots of things to destroy and learn. However, that one is mostly sitting in the back of my mind and I haven't played it aside from a dozen or so credits one night. Like Garegga, I want to have the fun of discovering things in the game instead of spoiling it to quickly post a competitive score, but I will play it seriously someday.
I have decided that when I finally get a Cab, I will initially buy two games. One will be a Psikyo game, and other will be either Ibara, Batrider, or Garegga.
As you can see, Battle Bakraid is not among them. I played several credits of that over the course of a week when preparing for one of the STGT tournaments. It definitely seemed easier than Garegga, but I never had as much fun playing it. Not sure why or how to explain it, but that was how I felt. In fact, I used to think it was older than Garegga because I assumed it was an early Raizing effort before they created their masterpieces.
When all is said and done, I would rank them like this:
Garegga > Batrider > Bakraid
However, due to Batrider seeming more accessible to casual play, I can see myself picking that over Garegga for my future cab. You know, because I might have guests who would probably be turned off by how hardcore Garegga is.

Feel free to link it, because I deleted those comments a long time ago when I realized what an idiot I was being, rather than getting all up in arms about it. You know... like a regular person. Also, I recently cleared Garegga, reestablishing my cred and cementing how absurdly cool and awesome I am.m3tall1ca wrote: Hey. Cool the fuck down. Your attitude has never been a good one.
