Fuckin' MAME, how does it work?
Fuckin' MAME, how does it work?
Self-explanatory. I downloaded the base, but:
1. Can't get games for it
2. Can't figure out how to execute games
Can you guys point out some good places to download the classics (DDP, Batrider), and how to run them?

I hate that stupid meme.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Mameuifx32 comes with a HTML file named MameUI. Everything you need to know about using it should be explained there. Telling you where to get ROMs from isn't allowed on these forums.

It'd take longer to post the links than it would for you to get off your arse and find them via Google anyway.
Re: Fuckin' MAME, how does it work?
Aye, yeah man, probably should do a bit of searching on your own to find ROMS and the like...google MAME roms and you're gold. I personally use old as shit MAME because I am too lazy/impatient to learn the new stuff.RNGmaster wrote:Self-explanatory. I downloaded the base, but:

Ah. Don't mean to step any toes - I assumed that was against policy. I didn't know about that file. Thanks for the help.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Mameuifx32 comes with a HTML file named MameUI. Downloaded everything I needed to, but despite placing the games in the ROM folder I am told that they don't exist. Help would be appreciated. Where should I put the files?
Re: Fuckin' MAME, how does it work?
Got Batrider running. Now to troubleshoot the rest. Dammit, Souky, I have the parent file, why won't you detect anything? And also, how do you change controls?

Most of your ROMS will come in zip files, but sometimes, depending on the MAME version, there may be files inside those zips that are missing in order for the particular ROM to work correctly. Bit of pain, but that's MAME for ya.

First, make sure you have the RIGHT files. Use MAWS for this. Type in the name of the game you are looking for. It'll list the parent, which is required, and all clones, which are usually the different regions. In the case of Souky, you need the Souky rom and the STV bios.

For controls, press TAB while running a game. I suggest hitting P to pause first. TAB opens a menu, one of the options is User Interface. Player Controls are in there. Highlight the control (P1 Up, for instance), press ENTER, and hit the key or pad button you desire for that game function.
Place roms and BIOS files in the roms folder.

I was a complete MAME noob until STGT this year (a few weeks ago).
I'm using lagless mame, which is found in this very same forums.
It was so easy and simple it leaves me wondering what the fuss was all about when I read about people not being able to run it properly.

I'm still a noob with MAME in its command-line form, but the mamep99 Lagless and MAMEUI I use quite often.
Took a little reading and trying to figure out how to run it on my own, so I'll admit its more difficult than say, Kega Fusion, but it is still not that hard to use.

Moved to Off Topic.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: Fuckin' MAME, how does it work?
If some roms don't work, use an older MAME for them. MAME .99 is fairly common and well regarded around here.
I use .128 though, especially because it runs Radiant Silvergun better than any other version I've tried [less glitches, faster [read: frameskip lower than 5 90% of the time, usually doesn't go past frameskip 8, which is the highest I can tolerate] emulation].
Also, MAME has a built in [if not a bit shit] GUI, just open the MAME exe and select a game. Or, you know, get MAME Plus and enjoy a normal rom browser.
Also, @mesh control:
Your romset might be too new [read: they change the ROM names every once in a while for some reason or other]. Try changing the names back based on the CRC values.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
