Just curious about this one:

"PROTECTED"


I've seen a few of these YM2610 versions around over the years. Anyone know about or own the "unprotected version" with the YM2610 sound chip? Is the music any better or worse than the YMF278B version?

Don't know if the music is different though. I'll try to run MAME in one cab, then the PCB in the other. Would that be a good comparison platform? Both cabs are EGRET II, so same sound setup.

Btw, is the "unprotected" one rare by some chance/worth more?

That would be helpful. The differences might be negligible, but considering that the two sound chips are different, it has always piqued my interest. I don't think the YM2610 version is dumped, but I could be wrong.

As far as value is concerned, I haven't seen these sell for any more than the normal version. There is one on YJ right now for 3000Y with no bids and less than a day left.

Do you remember if this has some sort of sound test menu? I have one EGRET II screen horizontally right now, and it's the one I play PCBs in, typically. I could of course just run the game and credit feed while listening to the sound as playing on the side is bad for my neck.

Set DIP 8 on bank 2 to ON.

I no longer have this game so I can't test it myself.
