Cave PCB boxes - how to tell the difference

Post by spadgy »

EDIT: That saucepot Skykid made a far better version of this thread, so just use his instead!

I started this thread asking questions about distinguishing the different Cave box styles. Now I have the answers, I thought I'd post all the info together [Under Construction].

There are three distinct boxes for Cave kits, commonly referred to as 'Old Style', 'New Style', and 'Annex'.

Here's the pics, so you can tell the difference:

Old Style

New Style

Annex

Next I'll add a list of all the Cave kits and what box they come with.

Thanks DaveK, Skykid, Mr. Ord and andy251203

Here's the original first post from this thread:

Thanks!

They had one AMI logo up until the second run of Ibaras when a second appeared. The boxes then got a tan around DFK time.

Here's the old style, can someone post a close up of the new style for Spady's future reference?

Cheers Sven - don't know how my search missed that. But yeah - sadly no pics.

I think that my confusion on this issue stems from the fact that my (long gone) Ibara kit was a Black Label re-programmed as a Vanilla, featuring a new box I was told was an old box...

Your confusion may well be that Ibara (vanilla at least) was released at the time as the box revision. What that means is that Ibara can come with either new or old style - it doesn't matter, they both fit.

Hope that helps mate.

Oh! Both-style please! I'll return favour by listing each Cave game and what box it comes with in the first post (plus pics of the three box-types).

EDIT: Hang-on - Skykid posted while I was writing. Watcha on about Skykid? What's an Annex?

Annex picked up where AMI left off with:

-Mushihimesama Futari Black Label "Another Ver."
-Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label
-Akai Katana (I'm assuming on this one, don't have one)

Games which most people can't afford Spadgy, so don't sweat it for hunting down Annex boxes just yet. :o

Glad that thread helps some folks out. You inspired me to do a little tidying and I've updated it with a new section for those looking to build full kits but don't know what's missing:
NEVER REPRINTED KIT OBJECTS
