Except people aren't actually buying this for "potential", they're buying it for pirating games.Ex-Cyber wrote:Bought?Elixir wrote:Since this forum is against piracy, and this device doesn't kill region protection and is practically bought indirectly for the use of piracy, shouldn't this thread be closed?
Seriously, though, you're right that it's basically just for warez right now (which is why I'm still on 3.15, which no version of the exploit supports yet), but the potential is much, much broader than that. Pretty much the whole Game OS could be replaced by custom code (at load/exploit time, not in the sense of installing CFW) if someone wants to do that.
It doesn't really bother me and the possibilities this could lead to are quite interesting. It's like the PSP..... it's WAY more attractive once you hack it.Oh man I can't wait to run <some OS/MAME/some emulator/some application> on my PS3, it's not like I can't do that with my PC already
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

It doesn't matter whether it bothers you or not; my concern is whether modchip discussion is allowed, since selling modchipped consoles isn't.Strider77 wrote:It doesn't really bother me and the possibilities this could lead to are quite interesting. Congrats, you're one of the couple hundred who care about OtherOS. If I released a console and sold millions of them, making me millions of dollars and got word that it's potentially exploitable via some software I've included--resulting in loss of profits, and illegal activities--then yeah, I'd remove it as well.antron wrote:we ain't "people"
and my PC isn't connected to my TV, in front of my couch. that's one reason why I bought a PS3 with OtherOS. you know, that thing Sony stole from me.
Jesus christ... take a pill. I bought a PSP day one on launch from japan when I was still in the army. I found it interesting before the hack and liked the machine. I just liked it a lot more once I got mine hacked.... that was less than a year ago. I'm beginning to wonder if you ARE Ceph sometimes. I'd like to see you two in the Thunderdome....Also, it's not Sony's fault, or the PSP's fault that it isn't "interesting" (in your opinion).

This is my point. You came into the thread saying:Elixir wrote:It doesn't matter whether it bothers you or not; my concern is whether modchip discussion is allowed, since selling modchipped consoles isn't.
As if to imply that because it doesn't bother you, it's perfectly acceptable to talk about here.It doesn't really bother me

Eugenics: you know it's right!
When I said that I wasn't referring to that.... as in weather we can or cannot discuss it. I was simply making a flat blanket statement about the PS3 being hacked in general.... it doesn't bother me regardless if we can or can't talk about that on here. That doesn't really bother me either for the record, I'd rather be able to talk about it as long as it doesn't go into where can I get "x" game off the net for free. But if the mods say no I won't get my panties in a knot over it.As if to imply that because it doesn't bother you, it's perfectly acceptable to talk about here.

I doubt talk of a console being exploited or hacked is against the rules especially since there are no links to said software or anything, this is a topic to merely discuss the possibilities and repurcussions of this news.Elixir wrote:This is my point. I mean if it's perfectly acceptable then fine, I'm just trying to find out why there's one set of rules for selling modded consoles and another for talking about them.

Demon's Souls is pretty damn old school in difficulty. It's also barely a multiplayer game - not in any conventional sense.jonny5 wrote:not surprising though.....i dont like modern genres really....too oldschool i guess
Demon's Souls is definitely an old school game. Actually, the progression in this game reminds me grandly of shmups : just die and retry.Drum wrote:Demon's Souls is pretty damn old school in difficulty. The great irony here is that the actual security hole wasn't in Other OS mode itself, and it's likely that Sony never actually fixed it. I've already seen one PS3 hacker claim that it can be triggered from Game OS using the jailbreak.Elixir wrote:Congrats, you're one of the couple hundred who care about OtherOS.
