Recettear

Post by soloista »

Capitalism, ho!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/70400

Recettear was recently announced on Steam. It's a doujin game, but got localized by Carpe Fulgur. You can pre-purchase it for a 10% discount. It goes live on September 10.

You're playing as a shopkeeper in this game and the mechanics are somewhat like Gust's series of Atelier games where you go to dungeons and try to make a business out of your loot.

So far, it's hit the #4 sales spot on Steam. Come on guys, we can do this! We can make this doujin game hit the #1 spot in sales!
PREMISE:
Little girl gets visited by a fairy. Yay! Oh wait, you know your daddy who disappeared? Yeah, he had a shitton of debt. That fairy's a debt collection agent. You have to pay it off now. Thus you start up an item shop.

You buy items, sell items (haggling all the way), arrange your store displays, upgrade items, work with adventurers to explore dungeons and obtain phat loot (to sell back in town) and make sure you meet your repayment targets for each week. Failure = you get to live in a cardboard box.
Dungeon crawling is a top down action affair, much like a roguelike.

As an Atelier fan I really need to try the demo of this, but haven't gotten around to it...

You ought to. We need to push Recettear up to #1 slot on Steam. It might pave the way for CAVE's games, and then doujin developers.

Would be interesting to see the Rockin' Android releases getting more exposure there. Would be a nice backup to the PSN and boxed releases. I would also love to see a small printed version of Recettear, although the guys already warned they can't at the moment.

Awesome game and a damn shame I'm unemployed now but I'll buy it as soon as I get a new job. The demo was great and most of the dialogue is insane/hilarious.

As for CAVE, we've started a spamming/mailing campaign aimed at Valve to see if they can talk smoothly to them and make PC/Mac ports. I mean, they are already doing iPhone stuff and PC stuff could be moddable enough by psychos to make it almost arcade perfect to the point of being more perfect than the arcade or weird stuff like that. And then someone beats Ketsui using the mouse.

Either way, this was a nice move. It's a damn shame Razor2 sucked so bad I try to pretend it doesn't exist...

Capitalism, ho!

Rockin' Android's gone so quiet they've fallen off the radar. Nothing new from them.

Do you think if we all buy Team Fortress 2 it will make Lead and Gold introduce quarterly updates?

Sorry, that idea is stupid. And this game doesn't look my cup of tea, but thanks for the link anyway.

You're comparing two situations with barely any similarity of context to them. Encouraging more doujin games is vastly more different than a marketing tie-in.

Checked out the demo, it's pretty good. I'd buy it if Rorona weren't being localized within the next month. I don't want to dampen Rorona's experience by playing a game which plays practically identical to it only weeks beforehand.

Isn't it a bit strange you're comparing a doujin game against a full-blown console game?

No, because the category of the game doesn't influence the fact that they play almost exactly alike.

Haven't tried this yet but one of my friends was drooling all over it, so I'm interested.

Fun Fact: Carpe Fulgur (the translation team for this game) is made up of 3 or so members from the Something Awful forums.

If they can get a doujin game on steam, we can get Cave releases there too, right? Right? It's a well known fact that Cave hates money so except for their iphone blindness so fat chance

Downloaded the demo for this today and I must say I'm impressed. Haven't even got to any dungeon crawling bits but I'm already entertained by the charming/comical dialogue, artwork and pleasing graphics. Neat gameplay so far, might be worth a purchase depending on how that dungeon exploring turns out. Definitely give the demo a download if you guys get the chance, it's pretty entertaining thus far! 8)
