You would need the "Network Adaptor" to play game online, you can play Fighting games or Gundam or the TSS LPP against another online player. This is a must for online RPGs. This freature comes with all slim model PS2 and you don't need to buy the "Network Adaptor", unless you are using an old PS2 console.

"Hard Disk Drive" can only be installed to an old PS2 console, it is needed to play some online RPGs. Some old SQUARE titles support this freature and can allow you to install the game on the harddrive and greatly reduce the game loading time.

Some 3rd product seems to allow you to install game without harddrive support on to the harddrive and run the game in it.
