Is the BASIC running on the Wii quite normal?

Post by spadgy »

I have the BASIC programming language running on my Wii (through a Commodore 64 backend).

Is this some normal function you can access when you download a Commodore 64 game through Virtual Console? Or have I stumbled on something?

I bought Impossible Mission through Virtual Console, was playing it with a friend, when it crashed out to a BASIC interface. With the click of a button, an on-screen C64 keyboard appears, and we can type and run BASIC commands (We tried just a couple - I know nothing about this; my friend knows a little).

Now, every time I quit to the Wii menu and load Impossible Mission, I just get the BASIC entry screen:

I know of one Homebrew Wii C64 Emulator, but what I have on my screen is a little different.

That's pretty neat. Virtual console is emulation, so what you've just done is you exited the game and booted to the shell.

To get back to the game, you could try typing LOAD and then RUN

I thought that might have happened, and I agree with your suggestion, but for now, I'm going to decline re-loading it so I have this portal to Wii BASIC!

Oh, wow. That is cool.
Do you know how it crashed?
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I want one. :D
<RegalSin> It does not matter, which programming language you use, you will be up your neck in math.

Therein lies the problem! I was resetting the game using the '-' button (or was it the '+' button?) when it happened. I think I did it twice in a row, but I'm not certain that caused the crash. I guess I'll just to have run the game again, and try to do it a second time!

poke 53280,nn (where nn is 1-16 based on the color you want) - Changes border colour
poke 53281,nn - Changes main area colour.

Would be pretty cool to play around again with that shit.
