DDP DFK melting my screen (not really...) weird graphic WARP

Post by TastySoil »

Hey guys,

I have a Sega NEW ASTRO CITY Cab that i've played lots of Cave PCBs on (as well as other ones too) and I recently noticed a weird graphic warp happening on the bottom of the CRT *only* when playing my DoDonPachi DFK PCB (and only when using the mega lazer thing  ). I took up the street to my buddy's house (dubdubdub) and his NEW ASTRO CITY cab does the same thing. He confirmed with others that this is a common thing with certain monitors & this board. I was just curious how many other people have had a similar problem? Check the link below for a video:

Not sure if anyone has found a way to stop this from happening-- if so i'd be curious to hear how. Thanks for the info!

this usually means that the contrast (white level) is set too high. If you decrease the white level you'll notice that the warping is heavily reduced or completely gone.

well, the only way i've noticed that I can decrease it a *tiny* bit is if I turn the brightness to the screen ALL the way down (which makes the screen feel really dark) -- that doesn't seem like it's the solution.

The only knobs I haven't tried adjusting are these. Maybe they will help?

Contrast, not brightness. May need to turn down the screen volts on the flyback.

Yeah, contrast will help it. If you don't have a contrast knob, those 3 will do it-- down on those and then back up on the brightness. It won't look as sweet, but it will fix the prob.

Have you messed with the horiz and vert position? Maybe it'd be a little more stable if you centered the screen differently? (maybe if you make the image a little smaller too)

I just thought for a second that it would be kind of cool if that was intentional .. :P

Yeah, I actually was wondering if that was on purpose too-- Like the laser is SO INSANE that it warps the whole display. Woulda been cool

I'll try messing around with all those knobs and see if I can get the picture any better, thanks for the tips!!!
