Use Reika. Her Shikigami attack decimates that area.

can someone explain the appeal of the shiki series to me?
I always thought it was kind of bland and didn't care for any placement at all.

Well, I'm nothing if not biased, but....
-Hilarious(if nonsensical) storylines and dialogue
-Challenging
-Decent to good music
-Fun boss fights
etc.
Though if you ask me, the main appeal's in the characters and various playstyles, and especially the writing.

Shiki 3 is an awesome, if hard game. Great graphics, cool bullet grazing scoring dynamic, memorable bosses and music. It just gets balls fucking hard during the last two stages. I don't even see how a 1CC is possible, yet I've seen videos where they do it.apple arcade wrote:can someone explain the appeal of the shiki series to me?

I wish I could understand the dialogue in the cut scenes, as I know there are a lot of jokes about anime and other games, especially taito shit. And you gotta love the fact that Time Gal is in it.
Overall I'd say it's on of the top shmups on the 360 worth owning, it just sucks the online leaderboards are busted and I doubt they'll ever fix them since the game is so old.

I don't even consider the wii a gaming system, so I'd never own one. But I'm glad people without a j360 get to play it.

I bought the Wii for that game.
(obsessed much?)
It was worth it.
Aksys did want to localize the 360 version, but Microsoft shot them down.
So screw the 360.
But hey, if you want, most of the dialogue is transcribed on youtube through clips and such. It doesn't make a great deal of sense anyway.

You forgot to mention the best thing of all ... the scoring system! Apple arcade try playing one for score maybe 2 you will soon see its far from bland.cj iwakura wrote:Well, I'm nothing if not biased, but....

It's not that difficult. The first game is arguably the hardest in the series.PsychoGun wrote:Shiki 3 is an awesome, if hard game. Re: need help with Shikigami No Shiro Episode 3
Shikigami 1 is just hard in general since you're thrown against more bosses. ... On the other hand... it does have the best boss fights in the series >_>Kiken wrote:It's not that difficult. The thing is, by the time you unlock freeplay mode you would have had more than enough practice getting through Stage 3-2.thread has been answered with second post please stop saying "forget continues" thanks
... Wait, you start with 2 credits right? I can't imagine anyone continuing on all of Stage 1 and 2 O_O
Re: need help with Shikigami No Shiro Episode 3
+1 3 is actually the easiest i think , it only becomes difficult when your playing for score and suiciding alotKiken wrote:It's not that difficult. Re: need help with Shikigami No Shiro Episode 3
I'm definitely not getting in this debate. But I will say that many of us have nice big HDTVs we like to game on, and don't see the point in buying a brand new game that's going to look like shit on it (I'm not including vintage games, I love my famicom). If I want shitty looking 480p I'll break out my PS2 over component. And I also know Shikigami on the wii isn't even in widescreen (not talking about borders, which the 360 one has). So I'd have a nice tiny square in the middle of my TV.because shiki 3 really needed to be a high def game
And yes, you heard it from me, the Wii is not a real gaming system. It's a Fisher Price piece of plastic that was made for as cheap as possible. It's a Bandai Playdia that sold well. Don't act like I'm the only one who's ever said that.

Why get butt hurt over someone who dislikes the Wii?
I don't get offended that you actually have fun playing it.

I just get a bit fed up whenever somebody tries to turn a thread about something else into a stupid playground fight about which console is best. It was frustrating and childish enough even when I was a kid myself.

Re: need help with Shikigami No Shiro Episode 3
I won't get into this 'Wii is not a console' nonsense, but I will say that I love the platform. It has a lot of great games; classic, downloadable, and on disc.
And regarding difficulty, IMO
Shikigami 1: hardest final boss, bar none (YOU CAN NOT HIT IT. You have to survive until it fades away.)
Shikigami 2: hardest bosses overall(namely the final boss)
Shikigami 3: hardest stages(except for Kagachi[wolfman]. If you can 1cc that beast, you are a god among men.)

Overall? Shikigami 3 is the easiest. Shikigami 2 is the best. Shiki 2 is my favorite in the series, regardless of the hilariously bad voice acting(or maybe because of it!).

And by the way: I have a widescreen TV. Shikigami 3 on the Wii looks quite good on it.

3 is my favorite, even if it is the easiest. I don't like the broken high tension max system, but I love everything else about it.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Re: need help with Shikigami No Shiro Episode 3
After reading this thread I decided to pop in Mobile Light Force 2 and credit fed just to see the final boss. Fucking sweet, the whole last level is awsome, great spooky atmosphere!
I own the USA versions of all three games but never got wild with them, I remember in 2001-2002 when the first Shiki came out in the arcades it was the rage in Tokyo, for a while I obsessed over owning a Japanese Xbox because it was the system that got the port first.
I can see why the series has a strong fanbase. I wonder though why they got rid of the weapon level-up system, maybe just to streamline it a bit.

This means you have to play Shikigami 2 now.
It has my favorite music in the series.

I bought shikigami 1 and 2 on the xbox in tokyo because they were dirt cheap, hoping that somehow they'd run on a j360 with the BC, but they don't, and I'll probably never get to play them =[

Re: need help with Shikigami No Shiro Episode 3
All three Shikigami no Shiro games are on the PC (2 and 3 supporting pretty high resolutions on top of that).
I'm not sure who actually makes these games - Skonec, Alfa System or Success - but I have a strange story with them. They are solid and enjoyable, they have easy to grasp scoring mechanics and I can live with their sub-great visuals, but every time I get to play them, I wander off to play something else pretty soon. I just do not get hooked. Homura is another game I believe I would enjoy a lot, but there's always some greater temptation around. Same goes for Takumi games - all fine and dandy - if not great looking - and the scoring makes more sense to me than most Cave score systems, and they show me more likeable faces of modern shmupping, but there's always that voice in my head convincing me that shmupping kind of ends here and something... not quite as shooty begins, so if I want a shmup, there's no reason to go there. In this vein I prefer Psyvariar and Vasara - fully-fledged post-shmups so to speak (even though you technically can play them like "normal" shmups).

And they're made by Alfa System.
