Haha, that's pretty much what I got out of that video (+ bullet time).

I'm really looking forward to this game. There's something about 3rd person shooters made by japanese developers that turns me on, especially when the developer is Platinum.

I'm mostly interested in the pedigree. Could end up being a huge disappointment.

Good lord I'm behind the times. I haven't gotten anything from Shinji Mikami post-RE4...FPS or no it sounds pretty decent.

Get yourself some God Hand, son.

Actually I think that IS the only thing he's done since RE4.

Can anyone confirm if the Xbox demo is region free? I don't want to bother downloading it to my J Xbox, if I can't play it.

It still isn't up on PSN, from what I hear.

I think I'm right in saying that if the demo isn't region-free, you won't even be able to start the download - you get a message along the lines of "this content is not available in your region".

Doesn't the PSN usually update on Thursdays?

That may be the reason it's not up there yet.

I've heard the PSN demo this week is for PSN plus - for regular PSN you have to wait one week longer.

EDIT: false alarm I think, rumors gotta love them.

The 360 demo is on MU, for those without the gold.

The PSN demo is supposed to be up tonight at 7:30.

Played through the demo and thought it was awesome, but it definitely has a steep learning curve, not just for the game mechanics but the levels. Seems like your going to need to play over and over and over to get the high scores in this one.

I died a lot.

PS - I wish you could still punch when your meter is expended, but I assume your meant to play without expending your meter.

OK, starting to get the hang of it and really liking it. Beat the first level without getting killed, which at first seems out of reach but now I can see isn't really that hard once you get really good at managing your guage. Once I started fighting the bosses at the end wasn't doing so good at that and I am guessing in real game play, not having access to boost and bullet-time is absolutely life or death.

This is quite awesome... can't wait to purchase it. I played both the 360 and PS3 demos... as far as the demo is concerned both looked the same to me, no frame rate issues or anything. The cutscenes looked a tad sharper on PS3 but this may change in the final product... even still you'd have to look for that difference.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Yeah, I was wondering which version was going to be better. I'm downloading the PS3 version, so I can figure out which one to pre-order.
For some reason all PS3 games look washed out on my monitor, so I may just end up getting the 360 version anyway.

It rocked.

I gave Gears Of War a shot, and didn't like it. This is what I wanted.

However, why in god's name is this 30 frames per second, instead of 60??

Definitely a big step up from the usual third person shooters. Now you can actually dodge instead of just wait in cover.

PS3 is the lead platform for this one, so I'm presuming that's going to be the better of the two, if there even is any difference in quality. I wonder if it was always going to be this way or if Platinum changed tack during development as a result of the Bayonetta fiasco.

I've heard that Platinum developed Vanquish for both platforms instead of leaving Sega to do the port.

Solid gameplay, but I don't see this topping Bayonetta as Platinum's best game this year. The mechanics seem fluid and well implemented. However, there's a disappointing lack of Platinum's usual personality in the game's bland aesthetic and weapons.

While it's obvious that it's more "western". on purpose, which tones down Platinum's usual flair...i'm not so sure that's a bad thing. As much as I like them, they're a bit too goofy on average. And that goes back to Clover(except for Okami). The disco dancing, Sara Palin look alike in Bayonetta, and all the J Pop didn't really do much for me, or for sales i'd imagine. I'm all for originality, but they got a weird aesthetic going on. I guess it's a love/hate thing...

Update: i've been playing this demo over and over. If the game can deliver overall, this game is going to be epic.

On another note, is Platinum games the most foul mouthed developer in Japan? Geez...

Been playing the demo a few times now since its out in european marketplace. At first I didnt die at all and wondered how many "lives" you get with the AR mode but seems like if you take more risks by trying to time attack or go for score bonuses it gets way harder to survive.

You take like three times more damage if you're overheated so meleeing is pretty dangerous. it has huge splash damage though, try throwing a stun grenade at the teleporting enemies and melee them :p
You also get upgrade items from meleeing set enemies, like one of the first enemies who is supposed to melee an ally to death in front of you.

I still havent managed to beat the boss if I stay downstairs, gets seriously hard but its awesome that it has different attack patterns there (and you have to fight normal enemies at the same time)

This looks far more interesting than shit like Gears. More shit to do, more risk, more speed. I might actually buy another 360 game now that this is coming out.

Having tried both the PS3 and 360 demos, I get the feeling that both versions are sub-HD. There's some unusually smeary vaseline-looking anti-aliasing that looks to be trying to hide that fact on the main character in particular. I played the PS3 version first, so I thought it was just that system getting shafted like Bayonetta, but the 360 version looks the same. The PS3 version was a bigger download though, which I'm guessing is due to lower compression/higher resolution on the pre-rendered cutscenes.
