Cool d/l of 1080p GT-TV Special on Japanese PSN site...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Was browsing on the Japanese PSN site yesterday and stumbled upon a cool freebie d/l. It's a three-part 1080p d/l to watch the Gran Turismo TV Special: Racing at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. Altogether, it's a whopping 37 minutes and 58 seconds in length. Looks like it was filmed in 1080p running at 24fps format presentation. Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi is shown racing in this pariticular 24 hour racing event with a modified Lexus. Didn't know that he raced professionally.

Even actor Patrick Dempsey raced at the world reknown 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans event. Goes to show if you have the $$$ and the skills, professional racing is something worth checking out. Or at the very least, race on the amateur circuit. There is a mixture of both English and Japanese subtitles when viewing this cool GT TV special but is presented mainly in Japanese but has a bit English spoken for a few of the various film segments.

The wait for the upcoming PS3 game of GT5 will definitely be worth it. I'm surprised that Gamestop is accepting pre-orders for the Limited Edition GT5 bundled set for a whopping $99.99 USD and with a set date release on 11/02/2010.

Thanks for the heads up, PCEFX!.

GT-TV was great in Prologue, loved watching the few Super GT races they had.

Can't wait for GT5!

Glad to hear from you, meshcontrol. Yeah, most of the GT TV footage featured in the GT5 Prologue game was on a pay-per-view basis but there were a few freebie dowloads as well. It's cool to see SCEI finally releasing some new GT TV footage. It's been said for the upcoming 2011 24 Hours of LeMans event, both racing classes of GT1 & GT2 will be assimilated into one single GT class.

Something similar happened in the ALMS a couple years ago when GT1 dissolved and the Corvettes moved to GT2. If it makes the racing as intense as the ALMS' GT class I'm all for it. Like this race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brNtbaMadX4

If I have the money I'll sit in a concrete bunker and watch from behind a long telephoto lens

Admittedly racing fast cars is fun but I'm always afraid I'll fuck up driving fast...and that's just traveling at night.

Anyway I'll hope this hits other download channels.

I think with Polyphony Digital and SCEI, they realized that paying for exclusive Super GT racing coverage just to view on the GT TV site with the GT-5 Prologue game disc was a money losing venture. At least they wised up and decided to make it available for free.

I wouldn't be surprised if SCEA manages to get this 2010 24 Hours of Nurburgring 3-part video translated with English subtitles (or at the very least, with English voiceovers) and feature it on the U.S. PSN site in the nearby future. Or then again, it could end up being an exclusive JPN PSN download for now. Sure gets the blood pumped up in anticipation of the upcoming GT-5 release.

Am glad that SCEI & dev PD decided to release the cool GT-HD demo along with a single update back in late December 2006. PD admitted that they were going to further develop it but decided that it would be better to concentrate their efforts on developing GT-5 instead. So GT-HD got canned.

Hopefully, the devs hobbies don't delay the game any further.

I doubt Kaz's racing has anything to do with GT5's delay. The inclusions of karting, track editor, day/night transitions have made the wait well worth it for me.

Yep, that's the one indeed, mesh control. Thanks for the heads up with English subtitled text. Of course, it looks much better when viewed in 1080p format.
