I don't think any of the older cave games are worth over 200$. except for collection purposes.
Maybe not the new ones either (I wouldn't know).

I don't think it's cooler than, say, Mars Matrix. But if you could get it for 200 or less, it would rock. I got mine for 90$.
It's a totally tight game- graphically and stylistically. And gameplay-wise too of course. It's not as accessible as Dodonpachi or ESPrade, on account of it's super spazy fast action.

To really answer the question- I didn't like it as much as dodonpachi or ESPrade, but it's still awesome. And probably a little more stylistic, too- and the disco theme is one of the good parts.

Try it out on MAME! See what you think. May as well try before you buy. That's a lot of money to spend on something you've never played before!

The time attack mode is like crack, so addictive it hurts. Brilliant game!

Don't think it's worth $280, but then again it seems Cave PCBs have doubled in value lately...

It's a fun game. The graphics are a throwback to earlier Toaplan stuff, the music has its moments. The gameplay is straight forward, but it is fast, and patterns and collection of DM shift as you get better. I started to hate the announcer's voice after a while, and the secret cat's "peh" every time you move.

It's good, a great challenge and something unique.
Fascination...

FEEEEVERRR! It's awesome. Incredibly goofy, but the gameplay is so fucking insane. The speed, the disco men, the music, the colors... is this what Japan was like during the 70's, or just what they think the American 70's were like? I don't care. It's a great game. I don't think I'd pay nearly $300 for it though. You can get Cyvern for that much.
Blow up self to involve enemies.

dangun is great if you like being in the zone, because it's so fast (not only he bullets but your ship too-if you want to score, you will always be dashing left and right) that you have to be 100% concentrated all the time.

OMG-I-JUST-1-CC'D-A-SHMUP

This is what dangun feveron is all about. Despite how easy and predictable it gets afte awhile, it isn't all that bad.

You should just play Ketsui or Progear and forget that CAVE has made anything else for awhile.

It's not as pervasive as one might expect, really. There's the silly announcer's voice, the music, and the "dancing people" icons and such, but the majority of the presentation is pretty standard shmup stuff, regular ol' ships and gunpods and such...don't expect any giant disco balls as bosses (Parodius already locked in the exclusive rights to that, I suppose). That's actually one of my major complaints about the game: c'mon Cave, if you're gonna do a silly shmup, go all the way with it! :P But in any case, the gameplay's plenty fast, and scoring well can be tough until you get used to it...it's still a good game, imo, but even though I generally like Cave it's not one of my favorites of theirs.

It's one of the weaker cave games IMO, but only because of the strange novelty feel it has. Somehow doesn't have the atmosphere of a cave game

The difficulty is fantastically hard (level 2 is pretty scary) and the two player game works better than any other cave effort though

I could see people who normally don't like cave getting into feveron

Easy and predictable? LMAO. Sorry, it's anything but, as Chtimi said, you have to be locked in 100% of the time, and even then Dangun is one of the few games that can cause you to lose all your lives like nothing. I've 1-lifed the game to mid-stage 4 and didn't live to see stage 5. This game is no joke.

Anyways, back on topic, Dangun is awesome, the satire is better when it's subtle (not over the top like parodius), and while the pace of the game is grueling, it also keeps the game from becoming dull. The only downside is that if you lose one cyborg, your whole game is ruined. Oh, and the music is great, another superb T's Music production.

DF still school me every time even now, but then I love it, with double cheese.

It's a better-than-average-to-good shmup, not very outstanding, but it is addictive and funny

Good:

Funny
Very Fast
Addictive because of the above two
Time attack, as mentioned earlier, is addictive like crack

Bad:

Bullets are small and oodly colored at times
The game does get harder if you survive for very long.
This causes to me a sensation of badness. - Stormwatch

Yes... I think part of the humor is in the fact that most of the designs seem typical at a glance, but are overlaid with such flamboyant gameplay and patterns. It feels like Cave took the commonplace and injected it with hyper-speed, rather than trying to consciously design something just for weirdness' sake.

Concerning the gameplay, I didn't think its difficulty was necessarily in a different league than other Cave games, but just the learning curve was a bit steep. If you don't like moving a very fast ship, you will hate the game (or end up loving fast ships :) ). But one of the reasons a fast ship can work here is because the bullet patterns are probably the least congested of any Cave game, and don't really have any of that "slow weaving" feel. You sort of swirl and curve around things instead.

I've never played Ketsui (c'mon port!), but Dangun Feveron is my favortie Cave shooter. It pretty much kills my pet peeves of any shooter: There is a simple, yet refined (and fun) scoring system, without chaining that makes you feel like you have to be 'careful'. And secondly, it's rock-hard, but very fair, and the bright colors help you see everything easily. Not that I'm really good and I need my games to be hard, but there is nothing I hate more than shmups that have easy 1st/2nd (or even 3rd) levels. Then everytime you feel like you're going though a 'pre-game' or something, but you can still die, so you have to pay attention. In Dangun you can die on the first level if you don't watch your shit. It feels like you're going full throttle right from the beginning.

Plus it's really fast.

it was my first pcb, got it for $150 when i got my cab last year. ketsui was in the $280 range back then. i think it was worth it. i wouldnt pay $280, but thats just me. $150 is about the price im willing to pay for games i like, the $300 range is for certain exceptions (thankfully i made that exception for ketsui back then).

back to the game itself, the music and general wackyness is my favorite part of the game. theres only so much techno i can stand. the speed and difficulty is my main reason to play gameplay wise though. i only use uo-poko because the speed and my ability to do better with him (her?), the other ships are just too slow/weak for how i play. my only real complaint about the game is the 1st level being too easy, otherwise i cant really think of anything else that bugs me.

and one particular thing about it being different from most (maybe all) other cave games, the screen doesnt move horizontally, its fixed. not a huge deal, but it makes 2 player easier at least (hell of a lot of wobble in 2 player ketsui when i played).

Even though it's already been mentioned a dozen times or so, it's really worth mentioning again: the game is really, really fast.

Your heart will speed up when playing it.

Speedwise, the only thing I've played that's as fast is its respectable rip-off, Parsec47. I've asked multiple times in the past if anybody knows of anything that's as fast and insane, but the only response I've gotten was that Ketsui is the next closest thing, but even then not really.
