left4dead2
Re: left4dead2
Got this now, liking it a lot so far.. though clearly expert is much harder than it was in the first game, gotta get used to that... playing with random teams on expert sucks most of the time. If any of you guys are still online playing expert etc. I could use some help, loved playing through it in the first game.
edit: found some good players and did pretty damn well, but I died on the swamp fever finale and on dead center i got incapped right next to the car and the game just skipped to the cutscene and thought I was dead when the last gas can was put in. Ironically I was telling the guy to put it in as I didnt know that would happen. Oh well, I'll redo those later.

Re: left4dead2
I think this game is terrible. I liked L4D2 until I got so sick of it after playing it for a day or two that I never picked it up again, and L4D2 is just an expansion pack to the first.
Re: left4dead2
Still playing this Rob? I got the game for christmas and havent survived any of the campaigns on expert yet (well, others in the teams survived), could use some help there. Could try realism at some point too, seems like a cool idea with the increased importance of headshots.
My favorite weapon combo so far is Sniper Rifle(with laser sights there is no recoil if you stand in place, hehe) and Magnum. Single shot kills and penetration ftw, especially on expert. Plus with magnum you can actually do something while incapped.

Re: left4dead2
I played it once in the past month, which is probably due to not being in the mood for multiplayer games and the bad luck I had with expert when I tried last (I kept playing Hard Rain and couldn't get past the 2nd area, which is just pathetic). I love the new combat shotgun and magnum. Also like the military sniper rifle. I really don't like the melee weapons that much or the grenade launcher (annoying). Might try to play again soon, I suppose.
Re: left4dead2
well according to steam ive put in around 132 hours so far, strangely i find vs quite addicting like the first l4d1, I cleared 1 campaign on expert so far I think it was Dark carnival but I havent really been playing campaign only vs alot.
You still get the same people who rage quit as soon as they die and people who bitch on the mic ordering you around like your some kind of noob lol I usually end up kicking them because they really do ruin the game.

Re: left4dead2
Hmm, yeah I got it some time ago and really, really wished that I'd held out on it until this week since it's been on sale (via steam). The game itself is decent. I'd never played the original so I figured it was about time to see what the hubbub was about. While I can say I enjoy it, I haven't really played it that much. Playing with friends in coop is fun and coop itself is fun but it seems to me that people take multiplayer way too seriously. I mean, when I play it I don't take it that seriously because it doesn't seem likes it's meant to but no matter what every game I've every been in has some 16 year psycho raging over something his team mates did or didn't do. But I digress...it IS a decent game just not as addictive or enjoyable as I had hoped.
Re: left4dead2
I really hate playing on public servers. In the last scavenge game I stayed down the bottom throwing all the fuel in the car with minimal support until we had all 16, the next round I ended overtime grabbing someone, and the next round I missed a spit at 0/16 and got vote kicked. Interestingly, I had no problems on public games playing on my brothers 360 despite the bad reputation Live gets (though I still prefer this genre on PC).

PC gamers will ruin anything, clearly. I've played a decent amount of 2 and a fuck ton of the 1st and never recall being ordered around once on Live. Grating voices pollute sound occasionally.Khan wrote:You still get the same people who rage quit as soon as they die and people who bitch on the mic ordering you around like your some kind of noob lol I usually end up kicking them because they really do ruin the game.
Vote kick is near worthless. Things that would improve it: 1. split screen users get one vote. 2. remove it altogether and just have an auto-kick for consecutive friendly fire/idle users. Though it is annoying to see someone fail and fail again in versus, doing next to no damage an entire round. Vote kick after one mistake is ridiculous.
Re: left4dead2
On expert a few times ive decided along with the rest of the team to kick one of the players because an AI would perform significantly better than him
Played a bit of expert realism on the first campaign yesterday, that was a lot of fun. the zombies can keep going even if you've made huge hole in their chest, makes them a bit more threatening. Going for the legs or head makes them die quicker. I guess this also makes melee weapons more useful compared to normal pistols, but on expert theyre still too risky. The magnum still kills in one shot so its clearly the best secondary weapon for expert realism. Gotta keep more attention to the sound world as well due to no glows, listen to the characters talking and you'll remember where they're at. And ofc need to talk on the mic more so people dont get lost.
Survived swamp fever on expert now and found some more good players. Gonna be fun doing the others with a good team.

Re: left4dead2
"The Sacrifice" anyone?? No Mercy in L4D2?? I just hope that none of the three objectives in the DLC's all new finale will include collecting tanks of gas. Been done and been done again.
Still pretty much the best game.

Re: left4dead2
I had gotten sick of L4D2 but this sounds nice.
Re: left4dead2
I can't take L4D2 too seriously. L4D1 was jokey enough but at least it didn't feel like you were being shepherded down one long, intense crotchbat joke corridor. L4D2's themes are queues and lines. Tunnel of Love? The Coaster? Concert? L4D2 simply has too many terrible and boring (imo) areas like that. N'awleans: Oh boy, I want to stand in an evacuation line...with zombies! Let's go across an impound lot...sounds like great fun (but I did get "Violence in Silence" the first time through). And, as even Rob says, gas guzzling...oh boy, shit on me with another mall, thanks Valve. Sure, there's stuff that makes up for it, but hell.
They also have somewhat fucked up the "death of Bill" thing. For a long while I thought that they simply screwed up the naming and "The Sacrifice" had been renamed Crash Course. Well, no; apparently they're still going to do the Bill Lovefest-and-Slaughter but it seems a bit late for that. It doesn't make sense to totally spill the beans with The Passing; I suppose it'll work out, but players won't have the same reaction now.
But I do love that opening area to The Passing. Hard Rain is pretty decent (except for the last half being the first half, whoops). Last Stand, and so on. I like most of the L4D1 locations, for whatever reason.
p.s. shout out to my homie BrainBread. AI TANKS MOTHERFUCKER!

Re: left4dead2
Tunnel of Love is the only really lame area here. Cute a few times, but very boring or a death trap if you get a tank spawning right after the maintenance area. Mall has another place where the game will push you down a corridor you can't back out of and then occasionally spawn a tank, which is pretty cheap. Despite that, Mall (Dead Center 3) is my favorite level in the game.Ed Oscuro wrote: Tunnel of Love? The Coaster? Concert? L4D2 simply has too many terrible and boring (imo) areas like that. The Parish is the most consistent campaign overall and has the best finale. Hating on the impound lot? That's a good reuse of a rarely threatening L4D1 obstacle and a way to make versus rounds a little shorter.
I thought that having a campaign with backtracking was interesting. Different from the others without feeling gimmicky. The storm, darkness and water make it a trickier thing to go through and they did a good job offering alternate routes (high ground - to get pulled from) on the way back, so it isn't just the first two levels at half speed.Hard Rain is pretty decent (except for the last half being the first half, whoops).
The campaigns in the first game are fun, but samey. I like that they were trying different things for each campaign here.
My main complaint after 9 months: Ellis. The Francis of L4D2, but 10x more verbose. There really needs to be an option to mute or limit game chatter to useful information. No more character introductions, either.
Re: left4dead2
Yo Rob, you and I should get a tatoo that says "bros..."
Anyway, alright. I still feel they went overboard with the jokey stuff, but hey, I'm sure the characters appreciate the diversion from their zombie apocalypse.
And actually yes, the backtracking in Hard Rain isn't so bad, but it was a cheap way to get it done.
No question about the game being better overall than the first, but I'd like a rethink of the tone before they try the next installment.

Re: left4dead2
Such a shitty thread for an awesome game. On the plus side- the poopy posters aren't posting here, which is great. I just remember why I avoided this thread to begin with-it seems to be better now
You'd think a game like this would take on a bit more with the shmup crowd with how arcade'y it can be at times. L4D 1 and 2 are a blast!
I played L4D on Xbox, then got the PC version a few months after. It's great. The gap is even further with the 2nd- but both Xbox versions are very very good. At least in the case of the first one- the zombies attack a little differently (I heard something about this being intentional due to the controller?).
What I would like for L4D 3- other survivors. Maybe groups of survivors (two teams of 4- who can get to the 'exit' first?). Some of the Point A-B things mixed up (alot of levels have pre-set paths- why can't we be the ones that put down ladders and such?). ANd one of the biggest things- a 'stand your ground' section. More barracading doors, setting traps, etc.
As for you guys who can do all of the levels on Expert- O.o

Heh, add me in on that sentiment (but I haven't tried seriously - most of the time I've been happy to play offline - both games kept me occupied for a while actually).Battlesmurf wrote:As for you guys who can do all of the levels on Expert- O.o

Do you guys play versus? After playing through the campaigns a few times I pretty much lost interest in everything except for versus. Now my only problem with the game is all the assholes I tend to get stuck with. I have pretty much stopped playing because I am sick of being kicked from teams, sometimes the second the game starts, dealing with people who talk too much shit and people that get pissed off and start griefing before they exit.

I haven't done it yet for steam- but when on Xbox I stuck with my policy "At least 2 friend/team members". I just added a steam group to my profile of "Shmups" something or others. I have yet to play there- but I'll go out on a limb and assume that times will be better if you play with that group...
maybe an L4D2 night?
Re: left4dead2
Sounds good to me.
Re: left4dead2
I havent played this game in a few months lol but I checked my stats
Left 4 dead
Total Playtime : 690 hours
Left 4 dead 2
Total Playtime : 539 hours
I really gotta get a Girl friend
when I uinstalled l4d2 I was last playing on a 20 player vs game server it was really fun! since it was a modded server you could use the buy command after accumulating enough points (<--- obtainable through killing Special infected+Commons and healing/reviving team mates) you could buy pipes/med packs/insta heal/weapons.
Sadly like most things it gets old fast I came to the concluesion the game is far too ridden with idiots to have any real fun and it surprises me the amount of times you get to hear 12 year olds......yes thats right 12 year old kids screaming at you to help them and crying like they have wet their nappies..seriously what kind of parent buys their pre pubescent children games like this along with a mic and lets them sit in front of a PC hours on end.
There are times when I played reg versus and I always ended up with a crap team but thats what happens when your paired up with randoms and your playing against people who are friends with each other and have a mic each you will 9/10 get raped hard thats just the way it is.
I had no idea about the new no mercy remake i may reinstall and try it out.
Note: Ive actually met women while playing too, and some are damn good too.

I play it a lot when I have a Live subscription. I think I would play versus almost exclusively if not for the people you describe, but I can still enjoy it with 3 random folk. They're not all bad. If any of you want to play some games, send me your Xbox tag. I never use a mic and have everyone on mute, but you'll have a reliable teammate and won't get kicked.Octopod wrote:Do you guys play versus? No real fun in 1229 hours... I think that's a record of some sort. I love both games and have clocked many multi-hour sessions, but sure I haven't hit half that and I have had some real fun with all types.Khan wrote:I came to the concluesion the game is far too ridden with idiots to have any real fun
Re: left4dead2
I sold off my copy of L4D360 after I bought 1 & 2 for PC otherwise it would be awesome to get a game put together. People on PC are even worse than the XBL people.
Re: left4dead2
Bumping cause this is all I've been playing recently. Suppose I jumped on the zombie boat late, but I started playing right in time for the latest DLC patch, so I guess that might be a good thing.
Been playing lots of the custom maps from http://www.l4dmaps.com/. Lots of good stuff there. Best if you sort maps by rating and download that way. Some of the highest rated maps are as high quality as the official ones. Definitely worth checking out.
Anyone wants to play a few games, my steam ID is udderdude (surprise!)

Re: left4dead2
I just realized that more people voted that Bill dies from friendly fire on the PC...than on the Xbox 360.
Re: left4dead2
Boo at all of you PC players for having people to play with, etc.
Appropriate answer for 360 version would be death by obliviousness. Smoker's got me! 30 seconds pass, dead.

Re: left4dead2
Bill dies when he takes too many pills and starts having flashbacks, at which point the other survivors have to kill him before he sees them as charlies up in the trees.
BAD END.
BAD END.
Re: left4dead2
Yea I reinstalled when I had a motorcycle crash....so I was off work for like a month so managed to rack up some serious game time 826 hrs now ^_^'
To be fair though im glad I did because i had some major funnage with this game, I played some great campaign games but more importantly I've actually played some intense vs matches.....but the icing on the cake for me is still the 20 player vs servers. There is one where you can buy a tank after having racked up 50pts and if theres a full 10 survivor team you have nearly 30,000hp! lol tanks are beastly especially in swamp fever where molying the tank is useless since theres so much water around.....another server Ive been playing on is running the Taaannnk! mutation which is basically a "run to the safe room mutation".
The survivors are given pills at the start of the round (no med packs are available throughout this mutation) and a 15 second head start after which the infected team all spawn as tanks and this server being a 20 player one means 10 tanks! lol basically as a tank its best to run ahead and block a path or an entrance so no survivor can get through....you have 6000hp so it still takes alot of gun fire to down you but the survivors get health in the form of pills or adrenaline....adrenaline is the key to winning this because it boosts your running speed massively you just cant be caught after like 30 seconds the effects wear off but u can always kill the zombies around you to load up again. You can also self revive if you have pills or adrenaline so if ur incapped u can pull yourself back up by holding the use key but only if your not getting attacked. Most games end up with the tanks winning and 99% of the finales are won by the tanks...dead center one is just a joke lol everyone dead in 20 seconds lol
I've also been playing No mercy alot and man i really missed playing as Louis...his laugh used to crack me up xD and the new special infected really make this campaign as deadly to survive as ever. It would be a dream come true if we could get Dead Air remade, in truth I had already played No mercy and Death toll remakes that were ported by fans previously on a 20 player vs server way before they were officially included in the latest "the sacrifice" dlc/update although ive yet to try dead air in l4d2 I really have some fond memories of it in l4d1.
The sacrifice was ok I honestly wish they made it longer......the finale is basically the passing act 3 but instead you have to start 3 generators keeping in mind each genny summons Common hordes and 1 tank its best to do them individually in the higher difficulty games. At teh end 1 has to go down and restart the final genny and be crushed by the tanks coming your way.....then the screen turns yellowly and zooms out while the bridge raises and everyone lives cept you....why the hell they couldnt have included a better concluesion than just the screen changing colour annoys me somewhat....maybe add some sad music and some final dialogue from each of the survivors bidding their final good bye to the fallen one...no, we'll just make the screen go yellow and zoom out because were lazy.
To be fair I really admire valve they have been giving us alot of free shit with the constant updates and mutations but with both major campaign updates I feel they could have gone a step further and given us something that said "here u go we worked our asses off to make this for you." but when its free thanks I guess.

Some of the left4dead 2 custom maps allow you to play as the original survivors. This is also one of the best customs I've ever played, could easily be an offical map. http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=7387Khan wrote:I've also been playing No mercy alot and man i really missed playing as Louis...his laugh used to crack me up
