Droid and DaveK's SoCal shmupmeet Sunday Sept 5th 2010

Hey there fellas,

Just got word the legendary Dave K. will visiting SoCal on Labor day weekend and will be available to hang out Sunday September 5th.
To mark this special occasion, I'd like to host a SoCal shmupmeet in Dave K.'s honor Dave's Northern California shmupmeets have been the stuff of legend since way back in teh day and I've always wanted to attend one. Unfortunately, work and family committments have always found a way of thwarting my plans. Until I get a chance to hitup a NoCal shmupmeet, this will be the next best and I am extremely honored by this visit...Hoping for a very good turnout to show Dave some SoCal hospitality!

I'd like to extend an open invitation to anyone interested to hangout, grub and play some games with us...without question it will be a blast!

Date: Sunday September 5th 2010
Start time: 4pm (tentative...sooner if its not too hot)
End: 10pm Ish (mebbe later)
Location: Garden Grove just off the 22 fwy @ Brookhurst Blvd. 30 minutes from riverside...45 minutes from LA...1.5 hours from SD....6 hours from NoCal and 4 hours from Vegas.

Games lineup: I have 3 Candy Cabs and can offer some old school (but very fun) shmups: Bosconian, Defender, Time Pilot, Time Pilot 84, Scramble, Gyruss, Galaga, Sky Shark, Twin Cobra, In the hunt, Raiden, Berzerk, Robotron, and Phoenix.. Also have a few cave titles to throw in for the bullet hell folks if requested. About 90 pcbs total. If anyone has a specific shmup title request, please post in this thread and I'm sure someone can bring it.

In addition, I also can offer the following classic dedicated arcade cabs: Afterburner Deluxe, Assault, Asteroids Deluxe, Battlezone, Burgertime, Crazy Climber, Crystal Castles, Dragon's Lair, Fonz, Marble Madness, Millipede, Missile Command, Punchout, Qbert, Rampart, Sinistar, SmashTV, Tempest, terminator 2, Warlords 4P, Zeke's Peak and Space Invaders... I've ordered new Timepilot 84 and Bosconian pcbs. Hopefully this will correct the reset problems we had with my other boards on previous meets. New additions since the last meets: Fonz, Tempest, Space Invaders (not a joke), Zeke's Peak and a bank panic pcb.

Start time is tentatively scheduled for 4pm, depending upon the weather. If we get lucky and it cools down, then we can start earlier and game longer.

Thanks for putting this together on such short notice Droid! I'm really looking forward to it, and meeting some of the SoCal crew. My wife will be coming as well, and I know she'll enjoy the classics. I can't believe you also have a Zeke's Peak!

If there is any other obscure shmup you all have been wanting to play, feel free to post here, and I'll bring it down if I have it.

*update* I visited the shop that is restoring my games and asked for my some of my games to be finished and delivered in time for the meet. Hoping to have: Missile Command, Terminator 2 and Qbert. Outside chance of pole position 2. Also the following pcbs are going to be new for the meet: Volfied and Bank Panic. I'm hoping we get some serious Volfied action in. It looks really cool.

Where the hell does the time go? The pm system is bugged. Ive sent out invites and the direct link I included ends up broken. If anyone needs the address again, please drop me a pm. Received a rare Qix like pcb called Volfied yesterday. The game is pretty cool and will def get some cab time, if anyone wants to try it. Check it out on youtube its a very neat game by taito (1989)

Phil ver0 added to the list! less than one week to go. Got a couple new power supplies otw for the candies. Hopefully they will arrive in time. Received the new TP84 and Bosconian boards, havent had time to test yet. Hopefully one of these solutions will resolve the reset issue we experienced last time around.

Its cooled down quite abit the past couple days...Hopefully this trend holds up. If so, we might move the start time up. We'll see. Anyone on the attendee list that still needs my address, please pm me.

If anyone is up for arriving early to help with setup and play a few games, please drop me a pm A list of things to do is: replace the power supplies on my E2 and Astro, move games around (dont worry, they are all on wheels except warlords), plug in electrical, and a few odds and ends like clean up and stuff, So far Stuffmonger is slotted to arrive early to help, as he has done for many of my meets....Did I advertise this as a gaming hookup? No its really a repair party, jk! ;P

Its heating up today, so its probably gonna be a hot one tomorrow so we'll stay with the 4pm start time. A few house rules for those new and old. Please arrive non funky if possible, havent had any probs of this type catering to the shmup crowd, but do remember several instances (none of whom are on the list) when I used to throw parties for the neo geo crowd, so just gonna throw it out there since it will probably be up there in temp, lol.

After eating, please remember to wash hands before returning to play games. Alot of my games are restored so dont want them getting too greasy or dirty. Also try not to abuse the machines if you get PO'd. Again havent had any problems with that so far, just throwing it out there.

As it starts getting late, we'll start cutting down on the sound level as I try to remain a good neighbor.
